kidsngarden
I've always used beads/granules and have heard flakes have less static/mess. What are your experiences? Does it really make a difference?
Jeana
I've used both. My opinion is that flake is much better. Flake doesn't clump like beads, dissolves faster, much less mess when pouring, and beads are harder to get from your measuring container into the water from all the static. I asked my chemical supplier the difference, they said the only difference is that most people say flake is dusty. Best if you use a respirator mask when dealing with it. But I use my respirator mask when mixing either. Edited March 16, 2012 by Jeana
beekeeper_sd
I prefer the beads. The last bucket I got was flakes and I find it very dusty, as Jeana said, and is harder to measure out the exact weight.
kidsngarden
oooo, I don't like dusty! Maybe I will just stick with beads!
Kitn
I like the beads the best.
Candybee
I've not seen the flakes yet but can imagine that it might be harder to get a precise gram weight. The beads are hard enough.
ah-soy
I read a tip online that says to reduce the static when using the beads, wipe your container down with a used dryer sheet before weighing out the lye. Haven't tried it out, but it makes sense.
Misty
I've used both, and prefer beads as well. I found the flakes to be dusty too.
