AnnieD
I am trying to make some black embeds. I bought black oxide and used the entire bottle in about 8 oz. of soap and only got a gunmetal gray color. How can I get a true black? Thanks! lindsaycb
Go with charcoal powder. It will give you black soap in an instant and be beneficial to the soap.
Kitn
I used a 1/2 tsp of black oxide mixed with glycerin for my lumps of coal soap, it is black. That was 8 lbs of soap. Was yours premixed?Charcoal will work or black clay.
scrochet
You need to use clear soap base, black oxide should give you a true black if you use a clear base.

Candybee
I've never tried charcoal in my soap. Where do you buy it and what is beneficial about using it in my soap?
Kitn
Charcoal is good for oily skin. "It is also said to unclog pores and detoxify your skin." You would have to use more charcoal to get a GM soap black. I would try it with a small amount of the GM base and see if it gives you grey lather. AnnieD
Thanks everyone! I've had some other input and I have to agree that using the clear base will do better. I've only tried the black oxide from the hobby store here. It is mixed in a liquid base. I really need to invest in some good colorants and oxides from Nature's Garden or similar. On the charcoal....do you all use the powdered charcoal sold in capsules at the drugstore? That, and activated charcoal from the pet store (which needs to be ground up at home) is all I can seem to find. Thanks for all the tips! AnnieD
Just wanted to note that I did try the hobby store black oxide in clear melt and pour and it looks really good! Also added a little white mica powder for sparkle an love the way it looks. I'm working on a project using this color and I'll post it when I have it ready. HorseScentS
NG has a black M&P soap base: http://www.naturesgardencandles.com/candlemaking-soap-supplies/item/blacksoap
Candybee
That looks interesting. They also carry some marbalized M&P with gold mica. Their soap bases are pricey thou. Even their bulk pricing is really high.
