EricofAZ
Anyone ever use Mica or Titanium Oxide as a colorant in wax?I'm testing a candle tonight with red mica in the wax and so far so good. It glitters in the wax on the side of the container when light hits it and if you look in the flame/melt pool you can see it moving with the wax in an upward and outward pattern. Has anyone experienced any negative effects like the lab blowing up or something?
ChrisR
They are pigments, not colorants for candles, and will clog the wicks.

Has anyone experienced any negative effects like the lab blowing up or something?I did it once with gold mica....it looked gorgeous for a little while then it clogged up. I melted the whole thing down and made some tarts out of it. I thought it was worth trying.
Stella1952
Has anyone experienced any negative effects like the lab blowing up or something?:laugh2::laugh2:TG it's not like makin' homemade dynamite! It'll just clog the wick and refuse to burn.
Candybee
When I first started making candles I tried some TD for coloring. I wanted really white candles and they turned out beautiful and creamy white but would not stay lit at all. Lesson learned.

LuminousBoutique
:laugh2:yeah its pretty for about 10 minutes.. then you wonder why you wasted your mica and wax. lol
Scented
But there is or was an additive out there that was supposed to provide shine and make for a whiter candle in the form of luster crystals. You might find it via lustre crystals instead of luster.
EricofAZ
I tried some of the luster crystals, they didn't work. Might try some other ideas.By the way, the mica did clog the wick. The lab did not explode. :rolleyes2
Scented
Did you melt the crystals separately and add some wax to it and then add it to your batch or did you just toss the crystals into your wax? Although come to think of it, it isn't going to make a ghost white, white.
