TheWickedWick
I use the Liquid Dispersed in Glycerin colors for my m&p. On the site they let you know which ones will "bleed" if doing any layers. I love all the color choices!
*Dee*
thanks a bunch. i really was hoping i could use some from there and not have to buy from 2 different places.
TheWickedWick
Dee....I hear you on that one! I try to keep my supplier list down to a bare minimum.
asheebeans
I've used some of their micas in MP with much success!
DeAnna_EC
i use tkb mica in my mp soap, the trick is to sprinkle it on BEFORE you melt the soap or it will get clumpy, but it is very pretty in mp especially clear
Candybee
The liquid colorants blend easily so I would start with those. I also got the POP colors samlpe packs and love the colors but the powder is challenging to blend into your base.
van_yulay
Is there a recipe for how much to use of dye and m&p?
Candybee
With liquid dyes you use a dropper. I find 1-3 drops of dye per lb is all I need for most colors. With a powdered mica I start out with 1/4 tsp per lb. You will have to experiment with your powder/liquid dyes. All soap bases don't color the same and some may need more or less dye than others. SherriLynn
I use the pop colorants with great success in my M&P,. I blend my colorant with castor oil, then add it to the M&P base. Great vibrant and long lasting colors.. no clumping...
van_yulay
With mica's how much do you use for a lb? Does or do these work better? Are the really better for you?
DeAnna_EC
i start with 1/4 tsp too. i use essentials by catalina base, and they color it beautifully, you can mix the powder mica into castor or glycerin, or take a little melted soap out and mix it until there are no clumps. If im making a big batch i just sprinkle it on the unmelted soap and then burst for 30 secs stir, burst until its all mixed in, if i want the color to be darker i add another 1/4 tsp.i do believe the pop micas are eye, lip, body safe and not to mention i love the shimmer they give off in the soap. asheebeans
Oh yeah! I've got the yellow, green, red and purple pops--can't wait to see the others in some MP!! So far I'd only used them in CP.
Candybee
I've got the purple, yellow, orange, strawberry, and raspberry POP colors. I am also using them in my lip balm making. They work great in that!I also found that when working with the powders that once you have stirred them into your melted base you want to pop your base into the microwave for a short burst. It helps blend in those last stubborn bits of powder that just don't want to blend in.
AntoniasCreations
Can anyone that is using the pop micas from TKB tell me how long the 1 oz samples will last. I was thinking about ordering the Pop Sample Pack that comes with Blueberry, Strawberry, Raspberry, Lemon Drop, Grape, Tangerine and Apple Green. I was going to get the 1 oz size of each and I was wondering how long 1 oz would last me. And also do you guys use the black mica or the Pearl White Mica? If so how did you guys like them? Thanks for any help anyone can give me!!!
Candybee
If you use 1/4 tsp per lb of soap a 1 oz packet of mica powder should color approximately 24 lbs of soap. I say approximately because measuring by teaspoons is by volume not weight. Edited March 6, 2010 by Candybee
