Toni S.
Does there really make a difference in the grade of Olive Oil one uses when making CP soaps? Why do most of them say to use Pomace and then there are some that say any grade? Confused on this!!
topofmurrayhill
They say any grade because they all work about the same. They say pomace because it's the cheapest. So go with the pomace from a good supplier if you want the best value. For soaping purposes, the only difference between that and a higher grade is that the pomace sometimes traces faster and adds a little more color to the soap. Kitn
I wish I could buy pomace here , the Costco OO leaves a green tinge to the soap but I refuse to pay shipping for pomace . I have to have most everything shipped .
topofmurrayhill
I've never seen olive pomace oil sold off the shelf for cooking. I wonder if others have found it, but my impression is that you have to order it unless you have some sort of specialty supplier near you.I guess that could negate the cost advantage, huh? It didn't occur to me because all the oils I use have to be shipped anyway, but I guess you can often get a good deal locally on large containers of retail-grade olive oil. JacquiO
I use the cheapest 100% olive oil I can find in the grocery store. I always check the sales flyers because I can get the big 101 fl oz cans for $9-10 each.
Billie
I just use Sam's olive oil because it is quick and handy. Pomace was great when I got a deal one time but could never get pretty blues because of the green tint.

A bit of a tan hue to it, but not green

Billie
That is good to know, thanks. Mine came from a neighbor who supplies pizza places and my base was always yellow. I got it at his cost so couldn't pass it up. lol
