thesoapbox
... a really good black color and as close to red as possible color?I love my PoP colors but I am needing to do some black soaps and some soaps that have red in them. I understand that red doesn't really come out as red so something that would come pretty darn close would suffice. Thanks!Angi
Scented
Possibly a brick red oxide and there is a black oxide, which comes out black as well as the activated charcoal, which can come out black too. Otherwise, the ripe tomato on the select shades sometimes works well for red.
Carrie
Has anyone here tried the new Red from Oregon Trails. There was picture on the site of a soap swirled with it.
Meridith
For black use charcoal.

Jeana
Does charcoal work better than black oxide? How much do you have to use to get a real black, not grey? Is the lather really dark in the finished soap?
Scented
Is the black for a swirl or the whole bar? Second, it's going to depend on your fragrance and the make up of your oils in the batch. For instance, I just tried for a hot pink with a yellow oil and got orange sherbert lol.
CareBear
charcoal is non-bleeding, so if you are doing the whole bar - go this route.if just a swirl, oxide might work better (it's darker)

Carriegsxr6
Has anyone here tried the new Red from Oregon Trails. There was picture on the site of a soap swirled with it.I saw that too a few days ago. They are always finding cool new colorants to offer. Honestly i have never had too many problems when i use the brick red and black oxides
Grumpy Girl
That red from OT... no likey. Takes WAY too much to get a red, and I still ended up with something with a pink cast to it.I still like soap silly's red the best. I've never had an issue getting anything from her though I know some have.

IndulgentCreations
She still has the colors.Any clue how to get in touch with them? I saw on the website that it does say colorants are still available but not finding a way to get ahold of them. I did email through the retail soap side....hope it's the same but have yet to hear anything back. Thanks in advance for the help!
Meridith
Thanks, I was planning to order but won't.Carrie, I soaped a batch yesterday and used the new red from OT. I used 1/2 tsp for about 1/2 cup soap. That portion of my soap batch seized so I was not able to get much of it swirled into the soap. But, what I can see, it is red; its not pink at all. It is a lighter red and I can see what Grumpy means about it taking a lot more to get a deeper red. 1/2 tsp for the amount I used should have given me a pretty deep red IMO. However, I wonder if not adding some black to it can help reduce the amount of red used? When I get a chance, I will try that. Also next time I soap and use it, I will add a bit of extra water to the portion I take off to color to try to help avoid it seizing again on me.
