jennhalcyon Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 I just received an order from Peak's, and something is seriously wrong with my 2 lb. bottle of Amish Harvest! This is my favorite scent and one of my most popular, and thsi bottle smells NOTHING like my 1 year old bottle I dug out of the basement. The smell is different, not to mention much weaker OOB.Anyone else have this problem? I emailed Alan and asked him for a replacement. lbtddr Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 i do not no what it used to smell like. but the sample i got a week or so ago did not have a good scent throw at all.i tried it in two kinds of wax. my softer wax witch i do not like to use but has good scent throw. could not smell it hardly at all. at mixing it at a high percent of fo.the 1945 wax was really light. The formula for Amish Harvest has not changed. And the batch your recent bottle originated from was less than 30 days old (we were out-of stock on it about a month ago too for a couple days, as it moves extremely fast). Our FO inventory rotates about every 30 days or less. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the bottle itself may have something to do with the presentation of the scent. The 32 oz bottles are made from HDPE and the 16 oz amber plastics are made from a specially treated and impermeable PET. The HDPE is permeable to FO’s, but that doesn’t influence the scent if it is placed into a candle within about 3 to 6 months. I think the best way to compare is to grab a swab and dip it in each FO, that way you’re eliminating the bottle as a factor in the scent presentation. Then walk outside before smelling them. We keep reference samples on hand for just this purpose, and to do a quick check we use a special dabber that is basically just a swab. Instead of walking outside though, I use an organic respirator to isolate myself from the scents while preparing the swabs. If you’re still concerned, I would encourage you to make a candle or two and compare, as out-of-bottle comparisons can be deceptive. Even if you use a bit of the bottle, I’d still be happy to exchange it for you just to put your mind at ease. We normally don’t do any returns on FO because we cannot resell them, but I’d be happy to do it for you since I plan on making a bunch of Amish Harvest candles for gifts and I can use it myself in the very near future. Anyway, glad to see you back!Cheers,Alan WallacePeak Candle Supplies I did as Alan suggested. I dipped a cotton swab in eahc bottle and went outside to sniff. They smell different than in the bottle, as he said they would, but still not identical. The older one seems spicier, more cinnamon perhaps, and the newer one seems to have more of a tart fruit scent??? I don't trust my nose, though, so I am going to pour a candle and see what happens. By the way, Alan replied within several hours of me sending my email, and he is 2 hours behind me so he probably answered as soon as he got it!
