Crystala25
Has anyone ever seen this soap called Shower Shock, it says that "each bar of Shower shock contains approximately 12 servings/showers per 4 ounce bar with 200 milligrams of caffeine per serving." Is this even safe to put on your body, I wouldn't think that much caffeine would be okay? http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/accessories/5a65/
RobinInOR
They've had it out for a couple of years. There was a study at Carnegie-Mellon about a caffeine patch - no where near that much can diffuse through the skin that fast. And since it's just a wash off product, it's mostly gimmick. I doubt you get too much caffeine.
GrandmaArial
GEEK SOAP! Yes, I agree with Robin. I know a young geek who loves this stuff but it doesnt seem to affect him... he's no more wired up when he uses it than normal anyway... funnygirl
This soap actually claims to "wake you up"? I have seen caffeine used in different body products, but usually it is seen in cellulite removal creams and such. Hmmmm.....
topofmurrayhill
I once had a shower gel with caffeine from a men's skincare line and I can't say for sure if there was an effect, but it had some peppermint in it too and the overall experience was invigorating. You can absorb some caffeine through the skin but I'm curious how much has to be in a cleansing product in order to feel it.
blazerina
If i'm not mistaken, a lot of companies add caffeine to anti cellulite creams. It's purpose is to plump up the skin to lesson the depth of the cellulite. (either that or it draws water retention out- can't remember now) Not sure how much they use but it's not entirely unusual. You would definitely have to soak in it and shower 3 times a day in it for it to have much if any effect. There was also a thread about this in the OT board a few months ago I beleive. Everyone pretty much agreed it was marketing. But if you beleive in it because it says so- it will probably work for you:D . No harm in that. Crystala25
I figured it was more hype than anything, but I had read somewhere that putting too much caffeine into skin care products can be bad for you. Or did I read wrong?
Crafty1_AJ
I prefer to mainline my caffeine.
jaybyrd
I prefer to mainline my caffeine. :yes:Yep lol yep - I'm only a step away from direct iv or cutting to the chase & just chewing the grounds (choc-covered espresso beans - mmmmm). Then again, I've heard tell of a few techniques - the lather up the bootie might do the trick - hmm - okay, TMI . . . aprillee
They did a special on this on our local news. The camera guy used it for a week and the reporter did the narrating. It ended up being a big hype. He said he would rather drink coffee and that it was a waste of money.
topofmurrayhill
I'll take the caffeine any which way -- preferably multiple simultaneous sources. So I'm still intrigued by this type of product, the question being whether it's possible to use enough caffeine to actually give it a pick me up effect. I wanna learn to make Jolt Soap! thecandlespastore
What probably wakes you up in it is the peppermint, not the coffee. People actually fall for this stuff? Grab some regular soap and drink an espresso already!
Sara
...I wanna learn to make Jolt Soap!I swear I remember someone soaping Mountain Dew a few years back. I don't remember what the results were though.
Smacky
I have used a caffeine soap, and what I noticed was that my skin felt tighter after using it.A very temporary feeling, it wasn't drying to the skin, but truly nothing to write home about otherwise.
