tx twister
Hi, I'm wanting to try a hurricane shell this wk with embeds. One thing I'm not sure of. Does this shell have a bottom layer of wax where the glass votive sits on? If it does, will the votive melt it? :rolleyes2 Thanks.
Scented
Generally it does. Some people will pad between the glass and wax with some cork.
mystical_angel1219
Yes, the shell has a bottom layer, and u can control the thickness.Make sure you use high MP translucent wax. On your burning instructions~ I would suggest you put in BOLD font:"Keep hurricane away from drafts and keep candle CENTERED in the middle of the hurricane while the candle is burning for optimal results"You can either use a cork circle or I have been using these small 2.5 x 2.5 square ceramic tiles that I put in the center. You can anchor it securely by melting the wax a bit with your heatgun and then placing the tile in the center.

beauloser
I just started using the ceramic tiles (a box of 250 for $19.97 at Lowe's)...I also really like the sand in the bottom of the hurricane.
Candle Man
Water in the bottom of the 'cane works too. You only need enough to about 1/2 way up the votive holder.
sharyl55
I've been cutting out cork pads but like the idea of a ceramic tile that is set into the bottom of the 'cane. Sounds like I'll be to Lowes too.
