Copyrighted Candle Scent Names

Hi All! I tried to do a search for this here and on google but wasn't successful. Is there any place that you can see all the names that have been copyrighted before you use them or do you just name your candle and hope you don't get a C & D letter? Thanks.

Here's some more scent trademarks. They're not so hard to deal with, you can just 'type' them. It's the product names that are difficult.

Mandarin Grove

Citrus Grove

Blackberry Lemonade

Vanilla Grapefruit

Red Currant

Woodland Sage

Cedar & Sage

Lavender Fields

Fresh Tomato Leaf

Tall Grass

I dunno - I am no lawyer -

pasting this from BCN's site:

Well, I've , no I am currently using, several of the ones listsed! That bites! And not that I would have known! Before making candles, I only ever bought vanilla pillars at AC Moore! If the FO is called 'red currant', and it smells like red currant, why would I call it something else? I hate it when the 'name' leaves me guessing! UGGGH!

Thats so insane-- so if I make a candle with an different FO and call it something as simple as "Sweet Dreams" I'm screwed cuz I didn't use their FOs?

Edited to add: So does this mean that Peak's is infringing on their copyright of Country Berry Hotcakes (is this the name of the new FO) or has BCN just lost it?

Hi Robin,

I ran a search and read your response above regarding trademarked names. I was a little unsure on what you meant by this: "It's the product names that are difficult." I understood what you meant by adding "type" to the fragrance names but was unsure what you meant about product names that are difficult. Do you mean a name for a certain line of product? Please advise. Thanks. :)

Oh geezzz I need to re-name all of mine. what do you do when EVERYONE uses the name sweet pea and such,,Im over-whelmed:undecided

As far as I understand it all you need to do is add "type" at the end of the fragrance name. The hard part is finding all the trademarked names and not forgetting them when you go to make your labels.

I guess it is not as easy when it comes to "product" names...like Robin mentioned......"tarts". I guess because you really cannot say tart "type".
