Scented Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Lye. Distilled water. You don't want me to list must haves. In fact, avoid what I do ... don't become a collector till you make a batch lol. I have so much oil and stuff I'm not sure I remember why I got it and now I have to figure out what I'm going to do with it. Quote

Livelovebath Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I am a newbie too but one thing that I have quickly found is that throw away cups for lye and lye water are great!! you dont have to worry about who touches after your done... just toss them out in a bag! Quote
CareBear Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 A word to the wise - even if you are just throwing them away toss them into the sink and rinse well first! Quote
Livelovebath Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 A word to the wise - even if you are just throwing them away toss them into the sink and rinse well first!VERY TRUE! thanks for adding that Quote
CareBear Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Another bit of advice, learned the hard way. No bare feet and sweep or vacuum up after. I must have let a grain or two of lye fall onto the floor. Stepped on it and didn't notice till it ate a tiny hole in the bottom of my foot. Nothing serious, but seriously painful.Since I have small children I won't be making that mistake again! Quote
von691 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I mix my lye outside, stick blender is very handy Quote

cryptic Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Are the MODERN instructions of soapmaking on the Miller Soap website considered CP? I was getting confused when she mentiones her stove a couple of times on the site. Thanks. Quote
KristinesShower Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Modern? I'm confused what you mean by modern?I use my stove and I make CP soap. Quote
cryptic Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 On the Modern Soapmaking Techniques page: http://www.millersoap.com/soapproc.htmlI guess I don't get it. Are you using your stove to make CP soap? or are you just over the stove? I thought that heating was for HP only?? :embarasse Quote
sawyer's moon Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Cryptic - many people will use the stove (or microwave) to melt their hard oils/butters like pko, cocoa butter, etc. HTH - Jen Quote
