stclaircandlelady
I do not make soap, but use handmade soaps all of the time. I have noticed that some bars, when getting to the end of the bar, tends to feel waxy and our softened water will actually "bead up" on my skin. Just wondering if anyone knows what causes this. It does not happen all of the time.TIA.
maryann
Do you have the ingredients you can post (in the order that its listed)?? Is bees wax one ingredient??
stclaircandlelady
I have no idea. Some I have purchased for resale, others just for myself. I do know that one supplier's I use is all natural...no beeswax, I know, and I don't get that feeling.I am assuming that beeswax could do this? That would make sense. But why would the waxy feeling not occur until the bar is very small?
eugenia
Kerri, every bar I ever tried, and I've used nothing but my soap and other soapers, has felt the same from start to finish. I am stymied.
stclaircandlelady
I just remembered where an unused bar was....and lard is an ingredient. I guess that would cause it????
Carrie
I use lard in every batch of soap I make. There is never a waxy feeling on my skin. I wouldn't blame the lard. Can you list the other ingredients?
stclaircandlelady
Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, lard, Soybean Oil, sodium hydroxide, water, fragranceAnd this feeling only occurs at the end of the bar of soap.
mountainmadness
Sodium Hydroxide? Hmmmm.I would be curious to see what people suggest too. I have been making and using homemade soaps for a long time also and have never experienced this.
eugenia
Sodium Hydroxide? Hmmmm.Hmmmm, that would be lye; LMAO!
maryann
Could it be that the Soybean Oil is really soywax melted (JUST KIDDING ). The ingredients are nothing outta the ordinary, that's weird. Have you ever cut a bar in 1/2 down the middle (like for samples??) if so does it look different in the middle where its waxy feeling ?? Hope someone can help ya! Meridith
I've never had this with any hand crafted bar I have used wheter it was mine or someone elses. I wonder if one of the oils or butters was used at too high of a percentage and didn't fully saponfy?
Crafty1_AJ
Do you happen to know how well-cured the bars are when you use them?
stclaircandlelady
Have no idea. Doesn't burn my skin, though.
SheilaW
Many years ago when I use to use "Dove" soap, You know the one that advertised that every bar was 1/4 cleansing cream? I was showering away and noticed I had grease all over me. Looked at the bar and there was a big lump of pink cold cream ( looked like what "Merle Norman" use to sell) I guess there was a batch that didn't get mixed too well. I've briefly thought of trying to layer some thick lotion in my cp or even hp might be better, just as an experiment of course.
mountainmadness
Hmmmm, that would be lye; LMAO!I hope that you know that I was joking! I wonder if it has a high, high superfat?
thecandlespastore
Maybe the person who made it added the beeswax and it did not get mixed in completely into the entire batch, and you just reached that spot?
stclaircandlelady
Thanks for all the info! I have never cut the soap open.I have another bar of this soap. I am very interested to see if that bar leaves the waxy feel at the end. Thanks again.
