Candle husband Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Hello I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem it's the 1st for me and I don't know why... I'm trying to make these beer candles and when I tested them as soon as I lit them it crackled and made a popping sound what would cause that to happen? How do I fix it? I burned for a 2nd time and only did it when I lit it and burned nicely afterwards... Quote
TallTayl Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Crackling if often moisture. did you use a double boiler by chance? Quote
Candle husband Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) No I didn't.... I used my pouring pot Than I poured in bowl and stirred till it hardened enough to make the foam and let sit for about a week than tested Edited January 25, 2018 by Candle husband More details Quote
Jcandleattic Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I was thinking moisture or water in the wax also. I doubt air in the whipped wax would cause it, but can't completely rule that out either. Did you add anything that might have had water into the wax, like a water based colorant or something? Quote
Candle husband Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 No I didn't add anything I added fragrance to the foam...but nothing else Quote
Scented Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 So did you put your pour pot on direct heat then instead of in a pan to melt? Quote
Candle husband Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 No not on direct heat always in a pan Quote
Scented Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 In a pan with water? Do you have a humidifier running? And have you made anything else with this wax you're using and did it crackle? Quote
Candle husband Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 Yes water in pan (I always have water in pan when melting) No humdifier And yes I've been using this wax this is the first candle this has happened with Quote
TallTayl Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Ok Back to my original question and hypothesis. Sounds like water got into the wax somehow. Whether accidentally dripped, condensation, or a pinhole in your pouring pot. Quote
Scented Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Well it's possible water from that pan got into your pour pot. How you fix that in that candle would take a bit of work as in separating your wax, melting it down, pour into say a pan lined with aluminum foil, let harden, peel wax from foil. If there was water it will be at the bottom in the form of beads. Dry everything and try again ... or you toss everything and start again, which would be the easiest to do. If you don't see any water, it could have been something that was just trapped in your wax or a defect in that part of wax you used. I guess just see if it repeats itself. Now something that used to drive me nuts was water getting into the pour pots. Before you color I would suggest eyeing your wax for any shiny beads in it ... that's the water. Don't pour it into a candle. Quote
Candle husband Posted January 25, 2018 Author Posted January 25, 2018 Thank you guys so much I will just start over... Hopefully that was the 1st and last time that happens!! Appreciate all your help! Quote
Candybee Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 The water in pan we call the double boiler method whether you use an actual double boiler or a regular pan with water in it. Hope that clarifies that. What I hated about using the double boiler method is no matter how hard I tried I always ended up with a bit of water in with the wax. That's why I am pretty sure its water in your wax. 2 Quote
