Palm wicking issues.

Recommended Posts

UGH I swear wicking these palm pillars is going to be the reason I am bald by the time I'm 50! LOL

I have tried several sizes of each - flat braid, CSN, CD, CDN, & zinc.

It's driving me crazy and I'm just venting.

Most tunnel and then the one size up will blow out. Grrrrrr. I just don't get it. Pillars are usually my specialty. LOL I can normally get them wicked correctly in 1-2 tries (of course that's with paraffin - which for the most part is easy) but still...

Back to the drawing board when I get home from work...

I ended up using a size 22 or 24 LX. But that was a few years ago (photos of my old palm pillars are in the gallery). That is off the top of my memory so if you do test with the LX series that will give you a starting point. I think the 24 will burn the whole candle all the way down but is also prone to blowouts.  The 22 will tunnel with the lease amount of sides.

If you recall I think Stella and another poster did a series of palm pillar wick testing threads about 3-4 yrs back in the soy wax section. Topofmurrayhill also did some wonderful testing on feather and tortoise shell palm pillars and even cut the pillars lengthwise so you could see the provocative way each wax tunnelled. If I can find the threads I will link them for you.

Thanks Candy - I remember the thread! I just forgot to look for it. I'll check it out.

TallTayl, I twisted the flat-braid but the others were already primed by the supplier (might be another reason for them not burning right - didn't think of that until just now) I will try that again.

I really don't want to go into yet another wick I don't have, but as we all know, using what I have available, might not work. *sigh*

:)

Thanks everyone...

Sorry I couldn't find them all. I was especially looking for Stella's thread and also Top's with the great pics showing how each wax has its own pattern of tunneling. That was very educational!

Oi - I should have done this research myself.

You have no idea how appreciative I am of you linking me these threads.

Thank you! This will help tremendously.

This is what I get for thinking testing these would be "easy" LMAO

Thank you!
