Black Dye

So I have been reading through many of the post but haven't found any that really answers my overall question.

I bought a few bottles of liquid candle dye and when testing out black realized a horrible odor. Like described in other post, it was very 'chemical' and over took the vanilla oil I dropped in before hand. Not only did it smell bad, but the 10 or so drops that I continiously put in my pound of wax only turned out to be a deep grey.

Any black dye suggestions that have been found succesful, and without the harsh dye scent?

i have found that all liquid dyes get a bad chemical smell when you use alot. problem is, you have to use alot to get a deep color. so, i switched to dye blocks with much better results.

The Pryme dyes give you a great black without the chemical odor!!

My black liqiud is from Peaks. Even with 20 drops pp you can't smell it in the finished candle.

For that matter, can't smell Peak's dye at 25 drops either.

Note to everyone: I found out never run to the sink when a candle mold starts giving out and wax is pouring

Yup, that's what I have.

Nope, the sink is the LAST place you want wax. Having a bowl or pan handy for emergencies is a good idea

What I usually do is add the dye first and then the FO, only I wait a few minutes in between. At high temps, the odor of the dye is much less than what it was when I first put it in. Burn off the chemical odor before adding the FO, I've never had a problem.

The odor should go away by the time your candle sets up. If you're using a wax with additives, you just didn't put in enough. It will take about 20 drops.

Sinks and wax are a bad combo. I set my molds in a cake pan when pouring. Help with the mess and I'm covered if there is a leak crisis.

I get my black from Peaks too and they have no odor. I just recently bought some hot pink/pink from BCN and it smells like Cinnamon,,,
