  1. Hello! I just returned from the store with three new glass jars to try, and I am scratching my head a little as I think about wicking one of them. It is the Roman Urn jar which is wider at the top and tapers down to the bottom. I would like to double wick it, but am not sure where to start. The only jar/container I have ever double wicked is the mini aluminum loaf pan...I just thought of it as two separate square candles, used a wick that matched the diameter of each "smaller" candle, and measured the middle of each smaller candle and placed the wick. I have never double wicked anything that was round before. My question is...when double wicking a round jar, how do you determine your starting point for wick tests? Do you think of it the same way I did the loaf pan, or is there a more correct way to calculate wicks for round jars? Also, when picking a wick size, I know I need to take into consideration the fact that it tapers down ...so do I choose a wick based on the diameter of the bottom, the middle, or the top? I assume not the top since it would be way to hot by the time it got down to the bottom of the jar...but I am still a noob and don't know it all yet (only make for myself). Here are my variables and what I am thinking: Jar - 4.25" top diameter, 3.5" base diameter, 3.5" tall Wax - IGI 4627 Colorant - none FO (blend) - 1:1 Peaks Birthday Cake, Aztec Birthday Cake Wicks - I only have HTP wicks...so I was thinking of using two HTP 52 What do you think? Am I headed in the right direction with my thinking, or do I need a course correction? I am sure this jar will be a pain to wick, but I like it so much that I think it will be well worth the time and all the tests it will take!
  2. I am looking for a good peanut butter and peanut butter cookie fragrance for my husband. He doesn't really like vanilla fragrances, but LOVES peanut butter, so I want to make something special just for him. I would love to find a PB that I can mix with chocolate or sugar cookie (if I can't find a good PB cookie fragrance). Any good suggestions? I have NG peanut butter cookie, but it didn't wow me.
  3. I have tried and quite enjoyed Peaks Lemon Pound Cake. I have heard good things about the following: Aztec Iced Lemon Cookie, Fillmore Iced Lemon Biscotti, and Peak Iced Lemon Danish. I LOVE lemon foody scents and have quite a few, but have not tested them all. I need go get my wax out!
  4. I have an itch to try my hand at making a soap cake! For my first cake I am thinking of making a grasshopper pie type cake. I have my chocolate (Soapalooza's Chocolate Truffle), but I need a non discoloring foody mint. I am not really looking for a peppermint, but more of a creme de menthe sort of fragrance. I have been considering BB Moroccan Mint, but wanted to throw this idea out there to see if there are any other FOs I should consider. Any recs? On a side note, my inspiration for making this cake is the soapalooza's chocolate truffle fo. Wowsers is it good in CP...so yummy!! I made a small sample bar of it about 6 month ago and just barely put it in the shower. I look forward to my time in the shower each day...that is how much I am enjoying this chocolate! It smells like the real deal, and her description is spot on in that it discolors to a milk chocolate brown and the later is white. I have never had a brown soap have white lather, but this one really does! *sigh* I am just so happy to finally have a chocolate that I enjoy!
  5. I really like all of these that you mentioned...and your blends sound great! I poured Peaks Holiday Festival last year and really enjoyed it. I plan to make another one this year. I have yet to put Perfect Pumpkin into wax, but I am thinking that I need to get on that. I have heard so much good about it. Perhaps I should plan a mini session for this weekend. Hmmm.... Oooh, I am quite interested to hear what you think about sugared peaches. I have it on my to purchase list the next time I make a peaks order.
  6. I know this makes me a Nosy Rosy...but I just love hearing about what others are pouring and testing! A couple of weeks ago, I poured a handful of candles and I have begun to test them and plan to continue to test this weekend. I use 4627 wax and HTP wicks. I am quite new to candle making and only make for myself. This is what I am testing: 4 oz. Mason jar (the squat ones) BCN Buttercream Crunch - have not lit this one yet, but am very excited to as the CT is quite niceAHRE Blueberry Muffin (SnC) - I have made melts and b&b with this FO, but never candles. The CT is very strong. I didn't care for the melts that I made with this one because I felt that the fragrance burned off too quick. I am hoping that I can get better longevity with a candle.8 oz. Square Mason jar CS Apple Harvest - I made a 4 oz. mason of this one last year and LOVE LOVE LOVED it!! I have a ridiculous number of apple FOs (I am on the hunt for a dupe of Salt City Candle's Baked Apple - have not found it yet), and this one is my favorite so far! I need to get this in a larger size.ICS Bear Claws - very nice in the melts that I made, and great CTFB Pumpkin Pecan Waffles - I am burning this one now and OH WOW! I don't even have a full melt pool yet and I can smell it all throughout my top and middle levels of my home. I have not sniffed the BBW version of this scent, but I quite like this one! DS Sweet Pumpkin - I think this will be the next one I light as I am curious about the HT...CT is good. If it performs well, I plan to use it in my blends (thinking of blending it with cinnamon bun and dupe BBW's Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll...yum)!Mini Aluminum Loaf Pan DS Peach Jam Cheesecake - I burned this one yesterday and really liked it! The HT was very good! I don't detect a lot of cheesecake in this one, but more of a smooth coconut note with sweet peach jam. When I poured all these candles, I poured this one right after CS Apple Harvest and my kitchen smelled amazing! I want to try blending these two together to get an apples and peaches scent.DS Blackberry Jam Butter Cookie - the HT and CT on this one was great, however, I just don't think this fragrance is for me. I LOVE all things foodie, but there is something about this one that I just don't like. I wish I could put my finger on what it is....BBW Small 4 oz. jar (I cleaned a couple out to reuse) AHRE Kettle Corn - hands down the best kettle corn fragrance I have tried...so yummy!! I have not tested the candle yet, but in melts it performs wonderfully! I hope everyone has a great weekend!
  7. Beautiful! This reminds me that I need to practice my swirls more...this is great inspiration!!
  8. I have not tried autumn leaves from either BCN or CW, but the MW Leaves was a dupe for BBW (Slatkin) Leaves. I LOVE BBW Leaves and also Y**kee's Autumn Leaves, however, they don't smell alike at all. Of the handful of BBW Leaves dupes I have tried, MW was my favorite, so I am glad to see the FB is carrying that one. I know that doesn't help you with trying to identify the smell of the BCN or CW versions...but if their name indicates that they are dupes of the Y's scent, then they will not smell like the MW version. HTH.
  9. I have used Sugared Spruce from ICS and really liked it! According to my FO spreadsheet, I also have Sugared Spruce from AHRE (didn't know I had that one...oops) but I obviously haven't put it in wax yet. When I sniff them OOB, it seems like AHRE's version is a tad sweeter and more mellow (not as sharp as ICS's version). Interestingly enough, based solely on OOB sniffs, I think I prefer AHRE's version.
  10. Oh that sounds great! Thank you so much! Please let me know if you find anything. For now, I guess I will spend my mandatory down time (just had surgery and am sentenced to two weeks on the couch) re-searching. The good thing about this is I am sure that I will find threads that I had missed before and discover a ton of new helpful information! I just love this forum so much, and everyone is so very helpful and kind. Thank you so much for your help Vicky!
  11. Ugh...bummer. Yes, you could and it was an incredibly helpful feature. I had saved posts for all the searching and research I did on candle waxes and wicks, and a ton of fragrances I was interested in finding. It looks like all my saved topics are now gone as I can only see posts/topics that I have saved since July of last year, but I had topics saved from years ago with helpful information. Oh darn. If there is any way to bring this feature back, or something similar to it, that would be great. I was neat to be able to save a post and then categorize it for easy retrieval when I needed it...for example, I had saved a ton of posts on wicks and which wicks work with certain waxes, and when i was finally ready to take the plunge and order my candle making supplies, I went back to my save posts and re-read all the ones in my wax and wicks categories. The feature also played really well into my quirky organizational OCD!
  12. Hello! It is been a few months since I have been on this forum (love the new look btw!) and I can't seem to find where my saved topics are. On the old interface, I remember I had a place were I could save a forum topic (one that I followed) and I could also categorize and organize all my saved/subscribed topics into sub-topics. For example, I had a bunch of saved posts about chocolate fragrance oils under a category called "Best Chocolate Fragrances" or something like that. I can't seem to find where those are now. Are they still there, or have they been deleted with the new forum set-up? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!
  13. I have only tried a couple of her Lush dupes (can't compare them because I don't have a Lush near me), but I ♥ the Vanilla Sugar Dusk (Snow Fairy), Toffee Sugar Crunch (Honey I Washed the Kids), and Rosy Jelly (Rose Jam). I recently made some bubble bars and hand lotion in Rose Jelly and I can not get enough. I want to sniff it constantly, and I am not a huge fan of rose fragrances. Rose and Strawberry is a great combo...just had the thought that it would make a great Valentine's Day fragrance...hmmm...better get to work!!
  14. It looks like she is getting out of the FO business...based on the message on her homepage. I surely hope that someone will pick up her FOs (Sugar Plum Fairy, and Sugar Cookie Royal to be exact).
  15. I was just thinking this same thing. I am actually wearing TM's Angel today...and I do feel decadent!
  16. Wowsers! Only in my dreams could I do that...way to go!! How much fun you will have testing! Please do post some pics of your testing, and let us know what you think of your new oils. I LOVE Peaks oils and find they perform very well. Good luck!!
  17. Thanks so much for the reassuring reply! The template and dot trick is absolute genus!! I have the loaf pans sitting her at my computer and I have been looking at them all day wondering how I was going to properly wick them. I figured I could measure the bottom (each one individually of course...since I had not thought of using a template...again genus!) and then make an indent with my nail or something sharp to show me where to put the tabs, but knowing me, there is a high chance I would poke through the pan. Thank you so much for sharing this! I was teetering on weather to start my tests with the 62 or 73 wick, and you helped me make up my mind! Bakery scents are my absolute favorites...yum!
  18. Ok...so I have never wicked a loaf pan before (or anything that needed multiple wicks for that matter), and so I was hoping I could run my thought process by you all, and see if you could let me know if I am heading in the right direction for my testing. Is double wicking an oblong container (like a loaf pan) just a simple as taking the length measurement of the pan, halving it, and picking the wick that best suits the half dimensions? If this is true, here is what I am working with and what I am thinking: 4627 with HTP wicks (both from Peaks, and I have multiple wick sizes) CS Pumpkin Souffle FO mini aluminum loaf pans (bottom measures 5" x 2.5" and top measures 5.5" x 3.25") Based on the dimension of the loaf pan, I figured I would start my testing with two HTP 62s or two 73s. To be honest, that just seems so easy, and I feel like I am missing something...is there a crucial element that I am overlooking, or have I just over thought it to the point of utter confusion?
  19. Ah yes, the first pour...how fun! My first pour was not too long ago, and my candles didn't turn out half as lovely as yours...that color is really nice!
  20. When I think of blue, I think of Blue Sugar (the Aqualina dupe...I like TSW version). I have not used it in wax before, only b&b, but I think it makes a great masculine scent and smells great! I bet it would do well in wax.
  21. Ugh...I poured my third and fourth candles today and I ended up with sinkholes near the wicks on both of them. Grrrr. I am using 4627 and 8 oz. square mason jars. All joking aside, I am 100% sure I am at fault for the sinkholes, not the wax as I made two perfect candles yesterday using the same wax and the 4 oz jelly jars. I have been reading up and it seems like maybe I poured too cool (I poured at 160), however, on the 4 oz jellies, I poured at 142 and 150 and they turned out great! Well, I am off to buy a heat gun. Any suggestions an how I can avoid this in the future? Should I try pouring cooler than 160 next time? Heat up my jars maybe?...
  22. I received my Peaks order yesterday and I just could not wait to whip up my first two candles! I used 4627 with a HTP 83 in the CS Apple Harvest, and a HTP 93 in the CS Caramelized Pralines...both in the 4 oz. Jelly Jar (or roly polies)!!! I also bought some 8 oz. square mason jars and plan to get some wax into one of those soon. I am sitting on my hands waiting to test these babies out, but I need to wait until Sunday. Thanks for letting me share! I apoligize for the bad cell phone pics...next time I will find a darker backdrop for my photoshoots!
  23. Amazing! Stunning! Complete masterpiece! I...can't...look...away...
  24. Well done, and I really like your stamp!
