  1. As I was making my most recent batch of tarts and candles, I realized that my stash is missing a good spiced orange (or spiced citrus) scent. Any favorites that you could recommend? Before I started making my own melts and candles, I loved Scentsy's Spiced Grapefruit...it was the perfect scent to cut through all the heavy vanilla and cinnamon scents that I gravitate to during the colder months, but still felt seasonally appropriate if that makes sense. Any recs (single oils or even scent blends) would be greatly appreciated! TIA!!
  2. I added them to my post above, and I even added a rec for the Orange Chiffon Cake!
  3. -Almond Pastry - not exactly the same, but try BB Almond Biscotti -Amish Harvest- Rustic Escentuals has one by the same name -Banana Nut Bread-The one from Candle Science and Cajun are good replacements in my opinion. Also, Banana Walnut Cake from RE. -Birthday Cake - -Black Canyon -Botanical Orchard and Nectar -Cinnamon Balsam -Cookie Cottage - smells identical to RE Grandma's Cupboard (KY) -Cookies for Santa - BCN has one with the same name, but not sure if they are similar. If they are not, please delete this rec. -Fresh Baked Pie Crust -Freshed Brewed Coffee I made some melts with AH/RE Coffee bean....pretty strong oob -German Chocolate Cake -Home for the Holidays -Lavender -Lemon Pound Cake -Candle Science version smells very close OOB. Have not put it in wax. - RE Lemon Sugar Bundt Cake -Mountain Lake -Ocean -Olde Towne Bake Shoppe -Orange Chiffon Cake - RE Orange Chiffon Cake (KY) smells the same to me, both in tarts and OOB -Paris Twilight -Patchouli -Pear Spice -Purely Peppermint - Flamings "North Pole" -Red Clove -Sea Salt & Cocoa Bean -Spiced Cranberry -Sweet Pumpkin Spice -Twilight Woods-samles ordered from Cierra and Lonestar -Wild Mountain Honey - TT - I use the one from brambleberry. -Wild Raspberry -Winter Wonderland I added RE's Lemon Sugar Bundt Cake to the Lemon Pound Cake listing. I have tarts made with both, and when I sniff them side by side, they are pretty close, but I prefer REs. REs is a little sweeter and I am able to detect the cake notes easier. Added that BCN has an oil called Cookies for Santa, but I'm not sure if they are the same as I have not smelled Peaks version. If they are not the same, please feel free to delete the above comment. Added the rec to try BB Almond Biscotti for those looking to replace Almond Pastries. OOB they do not smell identical, but they are in the same vein. Added that I am looking to replace German Chocolate Cake, Olde Towne Bake Shoppe, Spiced Cranberry, and Sweet Pumpkin Spice
  4. Thanks Belinda for your reply! I'm glad to hear that you have also heard that the pumpkin cheesecake is good! I'm off to check out the Sugar Cookie, Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie and All Hallow's Eve scents. Thanks for the info!! Oooh, these sound great! I think I may have a sample of Sissie's Sugar Cookies around here somewhere (I will have to look), but I did not know about their Cookies for Santa...so I will definitely check that one out. *Off to do some reading*
  5. Hi! I'm placing an order at BCN for some soap base, and I thought I would toss a few fragrance oils in my cart to test out and I would love to hear what you all are loving. I make melts and candles for myself and I tend to gravitate towards the bakery and foody scents. I see that they have two different Cinnamon Bun(s) FOs (one is BCN and the other is BCS)...are either of them any good? I already have in my cart Biscotti and Pumpkin Cheesecake, but I would love to add a few more. I have tried and loved their Buttercream Crunch, and Country Berry Hotcakes. Any recs would be greatly appreciated!
  6. My favorite fall scents from Peaks are: Pear Spice, Pumpkin Caramel Latte, Pumpkin Souffle, Spiced Cranberry, Sweet Pumpkin Spice. Others that are my favorite that are not necessarily "fall" scents are: Bartlett Pear, Birthday Cake, Cinnamon & Balsam, Cookie Cottage, Cranberry Apple Marmalade, German Chocolate Cake, Holiday Festival, and Olde Town Bake Shoppe. I really like their oils!! Let us know what you end up ordering.
  7. I have not tried any straight donut fragrances, but I do have ICS Cinnamon Glazed Donuts and it is AWESOME!! I have used it in wax melts and a car sachet (both were amazing), and plan to pour a candle for this fall season. I hope it is not too hard to wick...
  8. Oh yay! I am so glad to hear that you had good reviews with CS's version! I am already plotting what I am going to do with it as soon as it arrives.
  9. I just checked, and your right, it is not skin safe. That is ok with me as I am planning to make candles and melts with it.
  10. Oh wow! I may consider trying out Sweetcakes based on your glowing review...but at that price...I don't know. If I end up loving it, I may be in trouble! I will add it to my wishlist and mull it over for a while. Thanks for the AHRE rec! I think I will add a one ounce to my cart the next time I place my order and give it a try. I also just placed a small CS order and added an ounce to my order.
  11. I am looking for a really good dupe for Thierry Mugler's Angel. I see that BCN, CS, and MMS all have an Angel type...has anyone tried any of these? Or any good ones from other sellers that you could recommend?
  12. Oh, you are so sweet 8-gran-ones! Thank you, but I don't even know the first thing about getting a fragrance duped...I was just saying that I need to find a dupe for this fragrance as I love it so much. So sorry for the confusion.
  13. Wow, thanks so much for sharing! I just poured 7 candles and 3 of them are from AHRE. I am finding that I really like their oils. Can you describe what Main Street Christmas smells like? I just read the description, but am having a hard time picturing it.
  14. I desperately need Vanilla Sandalwood duped...I am down to my last .5 to .33 oz and I want to just cry thinking about it. I have read on another forum that Peak French Vanilla Amber is close, so it is on my list to buy next...but I have doubts that it will be as good as VS.
  15. I went back to my notes and it looks like I made the candle two years ago, and it was the second candle I ever made, so that may explain a bit about my experience! Per my notes, I heated the wax to 185 degrees and added the fragrance at 185 degrees, stirred, and poured the wax into the container at 158 degrees. Sadly, my poor notes don't indicated how long I let it cure, but if my memory serves me right, I likely didn't let it cure any longer than two days. Perhaps I need to try again this season, but allow for a longer cure time. Now, at this point in my candle making, I cure my candles for 1 week. Do you use 4627? In my reading, I have come across posts that suggest a longer cure time for soy, but don't remember anything about long cure times for 4627. Oooh, I don't know if I can wait two weeks...that patience seems God-like! I wonder if I should pour a candle now and then just let it sit until December...that way I can get a good cure time and I am not tempted to burn it yet as I am not quite in the mood for tree scents. Hmmm...the wheels are turning...
  16. Would anyone be willing to share how they got Fillmore's Christmas Tree to throw so well? I used 7% in 4627 and could barely smell it. Does this one do better with more fragrance or less? Any tips or suggestions on how to get this oil to perform would be great!
  17. I have used their Kettle Corn and I absolutely LOVE it! I recently ran out and I need to get a bigger bottle of it.
  18. So, I was at my local Batteries + Bulbs the other day to buy some small halogen bulbs for some light fixtures I have under my kitchen cabinets. They only had a few in stock and this sparked some conversation about the direction the light bulb market is going...and it is LED. He said that once they sell out of their halogen, florescent, and filament bulbs they will transition completely to LED...they give off no heat, last a decade or more and use very little energy (great for houses, but not so much for bulb warmers). This got me thinking about how much longer I will be able to use my bulb warmers before I will not be able to use them anymore. I am not opposed to using the melting plate type warmers, but I am wondering if anyone knows of any that don't heat up so hot? Do any of you use hot plate type warmers that don't burn off your FO too fast...the one that I have gets really hot (candle warmer w/ramekin). If so, any great recommendations of places to get some cute and fashionable ones?
  19. I agree with justajesuschick...their consistency is awesome. My paraffin melts sometimes come out of my warmer the way theirs does (I take a toothpick and pick at a corner and just peel it out of the dish) but not always. I wonder if FO has something to do with it. I feel an experiment coming on!
  20. I use only paraffin for my melts, and I blend two of them together. Blending seems to allow me to get exactly what I want in terms of FO load and melting temps to work in my warmers. When I first started making my own melts I tried a para-soy blend and it was nice, but not exactly what I was looking for in performance. I will admit, having to just measure out and melt only one wax that was already made into flakes was a dream compared to chopping up huge slabs of two different waxes (one being a pillar wax).
  21. I have never used wood wicks before, and the tip to trip a little at the bottom of the wick is genius!!! I do have a few fo's that I need (you know, how more fo's is a need) from BCN, I just may slip a few wicks in my cart and give them a go! Thanks!
  22. I am glad to have my wax level question answered...thank you!. I have always thought that a wick that was too large would result in quick wax consumption and a melt pool that was too deep...I didn't think that it would cause tunneling which is why my burn results were a little perplexing. I think I may try a size down and just see how it goes. I figured that the square jar would be a challenge, but I was up for it. and I do love the look of this jar. So, if you don't mind me asking, if you don't use any HTP wicks in this wax larger than an 83, do you use a different brand of wick when you want to single wick a larger diameter jar, or do you test up to a size 83 and if that doesn't work than you start double winking as you described?
  23. I recently finished my first test burn with a candle that I poured in the Libby square jar from Dollar Tree, and I have a question about my results. I used 4627 with a HTP 104 wick and a FO mixture of cotton candy, watermelon, and marshmallow. By the end of my testing I still had quite bit of hang up in the corners and during my testing, but I had to trim the wick a lot because it was a big flame and was consuming wax faster than it was self-trimming. There was also some wick mushroom bits in the wax pool. When I poured the candle, I didn't have enough wax to fill the entire jar, so I was only able ti fill it somewhere between the 2/3rds and 3/4th mark. Would my inability to fill the container to full have an affect on the burn results? I have some wax on its way to me so I can test some more, but I was just wondering if wax levels play a big part in the burn testing process.
  24. Thanks all for your suggestions and well wishes! After a little more thinking, I have decided to try one wick and then if I can't get that to work, then I will try two. I was so excited to get some wax poured, but was saddened when I found my wax stash to be super low...too low for this jar...bummer...so I mixed up a different blend and poured a smaller cube jar that I also got from Dollar Tree. I still have a new candle, but not in the jar that I wanted, so I am off to order more wax! I will be sure to post once I have it poured.
  25. I am just wondering what you all use when you are adding vanilla to your scent blends. Do you use a straight vanilla like CS Very Vanilla, or a vanilla variation like DS Marshmallow or AHRE Toasted Marshmallow, or do you use a vanilla bakery scent like Birthday Cake or Sugar Cookie? Do you find that some vanillas are better for blending than others? What do you like to use? Do tell!
