  1. justajesuschick and megandgarr - Thank you so much for sharing your info with me! It is extremely helpful and encouraging to hear about your success! This gives me a great place to start my paraffin wax testing journey! I love hearing that you are both able to use 10%+ fragrance load! That was what I was hoping for, but not sure if it was possible if I mixed the two waxes together. I know that sometimes less in more, but I prefer to pack it in, see how it does and adjust from there. Speaking of warmers, I was just thinking about my bulb warmers, and decided that I may try changing out the bulb in my warmer that I keep in my living room. It has vaulted ceilings and we have an open staircase and hallway and I have a hard time scenting that room. I wonder if the 40 watt bulb will help with the throw in that room. Hmmm....I will try it out and report! If it works great, I still have two other warmers with low watt bulbs that I can use my leftover Scenty bars in. I love how friendly and helpful you all are on this board! I do hope to pay it forward somehow!
  2. LOL, you are so sweet! You didn't have to do that, and I hope I was not putting too much pressure on you with it needing to be an exact match. I would be happy with anything close to just get my testing train started! I actually placed my order for a sample and ended picking up a couple of other samples as well. I got: Aspen Winter Caramel Apple Cheesecake Chestnuts and Brown Sugar Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies Hot Chocolate Peppermint Oatmeal Cookie with Icing Peppermint Bark Pumpkin Cookie Crunch Pumpkin Cream Cheese Roll Pumpkin Marshmallow I started making my own tarts this past spring/summer, so I don't have very many fall/winter/holiday scents to choose from (I do have some that I use for soaping, but not a ton) and I can not wait to get these in some wax and test them out! I have to admit, this is my second order from JS, and my first order did not have a ton of "wins" for me. Even though that was the case, I have more hope in this order!
  3. Thank you so much for sharing your experience about the waxes I am thinking about! I am so glad that the combo works for you...that gives me hope that I will figure this out! Do you mind if I ask what fragrance load you are able to achieve with your 4625/4630 blend (50/50?)? Also, what kind of hot throw do you get with this wax blend in your Scentsy warmers? I am definitely looking to achieve the best hot throw that I can with the warmers that I already have. Also, I do want to be able to make tarts and give them as gifts to friends and family, and lets face it, I live in Idaho - the birthplace of Scentsy, so EVERYONE here has a Scentsy warmer or two or three! I know they are not the best warmers because they don't get very hot, but that is one of the draws for me...safer if I ever happen to spill the wax on me (keeping my fingers crossed that this never happens)! I have never had an issue with the hot throw in my ramekin/candle warmer combo (very similar to the hot plate type warmers mentioned), but it does tend to burn the scent off too quickly for my liking. It does, however, give a great burst of scent if I have a last minute drop by visitor. I can usually put a tart in there and have the room filled with scent within 5 minutes.
  4. Hi! I recently started making wax melts for myself (used to use Scentsy...don't judge, I am just starting to see the light!), and the first wax I tried was KY Para-Soy, and I poured my wax into the 2 oz. portion cups. I tested my melt times and throw by using a half of melt in my warmer that is a ramekin on a candle warmer, and 1/4 of a melt in my Scentsy warmers. Of course, the ramekin/candle warmer combo could handle this size of melt, but my Scentsy warmers struggled a little. Oddly enough, I have three Scentsy warmers and they are all square...so the wax would not always melt all the way to the corers. I plan to try an even smaller piece of wax to see if that does the trick. I am not willing to put a higher watt bulb in my burners just yet because I still have some Scentsy wax that I need to burn through (pun intended ), and when I melt them at a higher temp, they get a weird burned smell to me (another reason to make my own...better quality for sure)! Anyway...I am just about done with my 5 lb bag of wax and want to try an all paraffin melt...to see how it compares, and I think I am allergic to soy I have been looking around and have narrowed it down to two choices...one is the KY 133, and the other is a blend of 4625 and 4630. Has anyone on here tried both of these options? If so, can you share in input on which you liked the best? I want super duper hot throw and low enough melting point to work in my Scentsy burners. I am asking for too much? Does such a wax or blend even exist? I know the 133 has a higher melt point than the para-soy blend, so I am not sure if this would even work for me, but the granules are just oh so nice to work with and it can handle high fragrance load! Also, if my math is correct, the melting point of a 50/50 blend of 4625 and 4630 would be 135, which is even higher than the 133. Hmm...what to do? Is it possible to lower the melting point by adding more 4630 than 4625 and still have it release from my portion cup and warmer when cooled? *sigh* Sorry to bombard you with so many questions. It is late and my mind is racing with the possibilities, and I am excited to begin my new wax melt journey! Here's to better tarts!!
  5. Oh my goodness you are so sweet! Thank you! I did try to PM you, but for some reason I can not. I wonder if I need to be a member for a certain period of time before I cam PM? Thanks so much for the offer though! Because of your post, I actually started to plot my next JS order. I've got a 1 oz sample of their Oatmeal Cookie in my cart along with a few others I have wanted to try for a while now! Yay!
  6. When you get it, please let us know if it is the same. I never seem to have enough cookie scents!
  7. YAY!! I am so happy to hear that they smell the exact same! (this makes me so very happy) The ScentSationals melts were the exact reason I have been looking for a FO because it smells so good and reminds me soooo much of those little iced oatmeal cookies! I probably would be good to keep buying those tarts forever (they are so cheap) but I also want the option to make candles and soap that smell so very delicious!! Thanks so much for the rec!
  8. Any good Oatmeal Cookie FOs without a raisin note? I am looking for something that smells like what Mother's Iced Oatmeal Cookies smell like (not sure if this is even possible, but I thought I would ask)! I have found that ScentSationals Oatmeal Cookie clam shell tarts (sold at Walmart) is extremely close. It is very good, but I really would like to make my own. Any recommendations?
  9. Awesome! You read my mind by stating which one you prefer...I was going to ask you that! I have only made tarts up to this point, and I am in the process of researching candle making, but I am not there yet...so tarts are where it is at for me right now!! I haven't heard very much about Candlesource up until now, so it looks like I will probably be placing an order soon! Thanks again for your input!
  10. Oooh...thanks for the heads up! I will keep my eye out for that one. I only make tarts for myself, and this is the first time I have made any fall scents, and I am on the hunt for the best pumpkin scents I can find. Thanks so much!
  11. Wahoo...how fun! I too am just starting to make my first set of autumn scented tarts (and hopefully candles) so I don't have a lot of experience with fall scents in general, but I do LOVE all the AHRE scents that I have tried (my current AHRE wishlist is a mile long!!). I will say that you will not be disappointed in your sample pack as I have heard great things about all those scents! I will hang around to see what others say...I need a way to whittle down my list!
  12. :laugh2: THE BEST renamed fragrance...ever!!!
  13. Oh I am so glad to hear about your raves! Thank you so much! I really hope that Baked Apples will compare in some way to Salt City Candles Baked Apple...it is so very good! I have heard nothing but good about their classic cinnamon buns scent, so I don't think I will even bother with the other one. I will be sure to let everyone know my thoughts on my choices! Speaking of reviews...does anyone here know about the Candle Scent Review Board and Soap Scent Review Board? (not affiliated) I have been using the soap scent review board for over a year now and it has been so very helpful, and I just recently started using the candle scent board. The candle board does not have as many reviews, but if we all work together to give our two scents about how different FOs work in our candles/melts, that site would be a great resource for all! Here are the links: Soap Scent (also has a B&B section) - http://soapscentreview.obisoap.ca/ Candle Scents - http://candlescentreview.obisoap.ca/ As mentioned before, I am not affiliated with these boards, I just LOVE them as resources. If this sort of post is not allowed, please let me know and I would be happy to remove it.
  14. Have you tried any other Pumpkin Cheesecakes? I have see this one at quite a few different suppliers and I am having a hard time deciding which one to try first! If you have tried others, do you mind telling me how they compare with each other? Oh so many choices....
  15. I have not tried any oils from Candle Science, but I have tried quite a few from AHRE! Here is a list of my favs: Bahama Coconut - sooo good in lotion! It does not perform well in CP, but I would guess it would do great in MP (although I have never done MP) Blackberry - also amazing in lotion and B&B products! So sweet and juicy! Fades terribly in CP though... Blueberry Muffin (SnC) Candy Cane (LW) - the closest I have found to Slatkin's Twisted Peppermint! Makes for a great peppermint foot cream! Cherry Mist (CM) - I love mixing this one with buttercream! It is super strong! Mabel's Mint Sugar Cookie - I recently made a car sachet with this one...mmmmmm! Great balance of cookie and mint. I have not tried it in wax yet.. Peach Pie Filling (KY) - I am still looking for a perfect peach pie/cobbler, but this one is pretty good. Satsuma (Body Shop) - dead on dupe!! Sugar Cookie (KY) Toasted Marshmallow (KY) Very Sexy For Him (SNC) - very light, but a dead on dupe! My hubby likes this one in shower gel. Welcome Home White Cake - sweet cake with a hint of almond. Very delish!! My wish list for AHRE is HUGE...there are so many of their oils that I want to try, but feel very overwhelmed with their selection because they carry soooo many choices!! I have been very impressed with their oils so far, and will continue to order from them!
  16. This is great information as I LOVE Slatkin's Winter candle! Do you know how Candle Source's The Sleigh Ride or JS's Aspen Winter perform in wax? I would love to be able to make my own candle that smells the same. The key for me would be to get the throw the same as well!
  17. That is good to know about FM and Cornucopia. I have a lengthy wishlist started at Peaks too, and this one was on it! I am really looking for a good Yankee dupe for their Farmers Market... I really hope one of these comes close. Oooh, I completely looked over those. *runs back to the site to check those out* Thanks for the recs!! I just read the description for Passion Berry and now I NEED it! I was mainly focused on Fall type scents, but that sounds so good! I think I will sub Passion Berry for the new Cinnamon Bun. From what I have read, most people on here seem to prefer the classic version of CB, but their site states the new formulation is one of their best sellers so I thought about trying both, but with your rave review of PB I think I am skip one for now and try it another time! Thanks so much for your recs!
  18. Hi everyone! I am placing my first ICS order and I was hoping you could check over my list and let me know what you think about my choices. Let me know if I have any winners or any duds, or if I am missing any must haves! Ok...here is my list: Baked Apples - looking for a dupe to Salt City Candle's Baked Apple - hoping this is it! Bear Claws Caramel Nut Cluster Caramel Sticky Buns Caramelized Pralines Christmas Kitchen Cinnamon Buns - classic Cinnamon Buns - ICS Farmers Market Gourmet Sugar Cookie Hansel & Gretels House Holiday Cookie Pumpkin & Pralines Turtle Brownies Ultimate Pumpkin Cheesecake - They have two pumpkin cheesecakes listed...is this the best one? Anyone know how it compares to AHRE's Pumpkin Cheesecake? Vanilla Frosted Grahams - I have Welcome Home from AHRE, are they similar? I do love my bakery scents!!
  19. Ah sweet! Do they come with the glass lids, or does Dollar Tree just sell the jar?
