  1. I had to google a heeler for a reminder, and they do look very similar. Similar to a kelpie as well. I bet Tiger was gorgeous! My suppliesr should be arriving today. I ordered a few different HTP's and CDN's so I can have a play around. I couldn't get ECO wicks, but probably a good thing not to confuse myself any more lol I ended up melting down the other candle and pouring into the bigger container with the same wick, so will see how that goes after I finishing playing the waiting game for a few more days. I thought the little votive sized glass would be a good starting point, so that if (when) I made a mistake it was easy to remelt and start again without wasting too much. I have a terrible habit of forging ahead without as much thought as I should, so they seemed perfect lol.
  2. The one in the pic is a dingo at Australia Zoo. My daughter was counting down for months to her 6th Birthday to do the dingo experience (had to be 6 to do it). When I was younger we had a dingo x kelpie who looked like a dingo, but had the colouring of the red kelpie part of her, although not quite as dark. What kind of dog do you have? I'd love to (one day) get another dog with similar features to a dingo - they are so beautiful.
  3. Thanks everyone! I will order some more HTP wicks, and also some CDN's, and pour a range to test. I'll keep my FO at 6% and try another vanilla with smaller wicks, but also another FO (or 2)!. I use Ecosoya Pillar for my tarts, and got some GB464 from a different supplier, just because it was cheaper and I wanted to try it out. I didn't like it for tarts, so finally getting around to making an actual candle seemed like a good use for it. I do wish I had poured more though. It's a bit disappointing to wait a week to cure, only to find out in the first 30 mins that I stuffed up. It had cooled and re hardened now, and still looks fab. Despite the burning issues, I'm quite proud of my first attempt.
  4. I've been making tarts for a little while now, and last week I made my first candle. I've made a few mistakes, but really need some advice on where to go now. I used - Glass (votive glass) - inside dia 2", height 2.5" wax - GB464 FO - Vanilla 6% wick - HTP 104 (I realise this is too big. I originally bought 2.5" container, then decided to use a smaller glass and forgot to use a smaller wick..facepalm moment about 15mins after starting to burn it. First test burn this morning. Flame looked a little high, but not flame thrower high. Full melt pool in just 50 mins. Blew the candle out as I know it's wrong and will melt it down and start again. Very little scent, even with my nose close enough to burn my lone nose freckle off. So, I obviously need to up my FO and down my wick. Should I drop down to the HTP 83, or go the 93 to compensate for more FO? And it wasn't all bad...looked lovely with a smooth flat top...big winner until the whole burning it part lol. Thoughts of the experienced most appreciated!
  5. I use Ecosoya PB as well. I melt to 85 and add FO at 70-75, stir and pour. You are going to find adding 10% of every oil to be a waste, so be sure to keep notes on every FO you use as well as temps. As an example, I need to use 10-11% pineapple and coconut FO to get a decent HT, but my baby powder is 7% and it's been sitting in my burner for 3 days now (5-6 tealights) and I can still smell it, although it's almost to the end of it's life. Cure time is also very important with PB. I let mine cure for at least a week, and a few really pop after 2 weeks.
  6. I love clean cotton, but it makes me sneeze like mad when I burn it.
  7. I re-tried the pineapple and coconut with more fig, but the pineapple is overpowering everything else. I don't think I have anything water type.... I tried with banana, which I also dislike (it was sent to me by accident instead of baby powder) and it's come out quite lovely. Smells like a fruit smoothy!
  8. You made it back from the driving lesson in one piece, which is always a bonus! Taking my kids for driving lessons are a long way off for me, but I already dread the thought.
  9. Ohhh, you have me worried about Love Spell... I have an order due to arrive today, and part of the order is Love Spell. It sounded lovely when I was reading on the website...but then so did fig. I also ordered palm wax. Does that need curing time like soy? If it's shorter I might try out my blends in that so I don't have to wait as long to test them out
  10. Well, I’ve had a bit of a play around with some cotton swabs and I think I’ve come up with some good combinations. I tried mixing with 6 other FO and I got- 1 Vanilla - not a complete success. I can smell the vanilla first, but then there is a bitter smell at the end. That said, I don’t like the vanilla I have a the moment. It’s not a sweet creamy vanilla, so I’d like to try it again when I get my regular vanilla. 2 Cranberry Mandarin - Awesome! The cranberry mandarine by it’s self I’ve had trouble getting a good hot throw. With the swab test I can’t smell the fig at all, but the cranberry smell seems much stronger. Can’t wait to put this is a melt to test. 3 Ambered Sandalwood - I really don’t know how to explain that one. It smells…florally? don’t know if I like it or not, but will try it in a melt. 4 Dreamsicle - LOVE IT! Again, can’t smell the fig as such, but instead of the sweet orange juice type scent it was, it’s a super tart orange zest with a lovely following of creamy vanilla. 5 Pineapple and coconut - need to try it again with more fig. Just smells like pineapple and coconut. 6 Honeysuckle Jasmine - Interesting …Honeysuckle Jasmine I find a bit sickly sweet, but with the fig it is…hmmm…deep? I really don’t know how to put it into words. I keep closing my eyes and taking a deep sniff and what it reminds me of is right there in my mind, just slightly out of reach. Exotic funeral home? Sounds bad doesn’t it? Lol It’s got potential.
  11. Wow, thanks everyone. The fig is from Aussie Candle Supplies and I don't know which US supplier they buy from, or which one it compares with. The description on the website is "Luscious fresh fig notes are highlighted by sparkling cassis and green vines." After I take the kids to school I'm going to have a play around with it I think. Make some melts (and quickly pass them on to my mum lol) and try some mixes as well with the suggestions (or variations of the suggestions) provided. Mixing scents is completely new to me (as most things candle related are) and I'm actually a little bit excited about it....gag factor aside
  12. Thanks for your reply scented! The FO is fig. I don't think I've ever had a sniff of a real fig, but I figured "how wrong can I go with a fruit" Bwahaha, I guess I found the answer to that question!
  13. Hello! I'm curious to know what everyone does when they get a FO and find they can't stand the smell? Do you use it anyway despite the urge to gag when you smell it and see if it improves in wax (and does it ever?) Do you try mixing it with other FO to get something more appealing? Do you toss it out and figure it was worth losing the $ to never have to smell it again? Use it and find that although you find it repulsive, other people think it's lovely? I got some fig FO and personally find it gag worthy. I'm tempted to try and mix it with something, but the thought of even opening the bottle has me cringing. LOL What would you do?
  14. Ekkk, sorry, it's inkjet...This is why I shouldn't come on here at 6:45am before my morning coffee, I skip over the important information! $71.88ea? Ouch, that was painful to read, let alone buy them.
  15. Silly isn't it? The inks for my printer are $15-$17 each from a retail shop, which is a real slug when you have to replace 4 at once. I get mine from Ebay though. I get 12 (3 of each colour) in a generic brand for around $30 with post. They are cheaper again from Hong Kong, but I pay extra for ones here in Australia so I don't have to wait so long for them to be delivered.
  16. Did you have anything on them to say what they are? Fragrance, or type of soap or anything? Ingredients list for those who have specific requirements? Although they look like soap to me, and that is probably pretty obvious to most people, I almost wet myself giggling when my friend asked me if my wax melts were edible a while back. They look lovely, and I'd certainly buy them (and my kids would go crazy over the spider one.) I will often buy on look alone, but it's usually seeing a scent name (I won't pass up anything vanilla scented) that appeals to me, or "goats milk soap" or something that makes me think *I NEED to have that* But as others have said, don't be discouraged as they are lovely, and even if your work mates don't buy them, there are plenty of people who would.
  17. I had a caramelized pralines tart burning yesterday when my partner came home. I LOVE the scent, and OH walked in and said "That has a really sweet smell at first, but underneath it smells like cat vomit". Ewww. I guess it's not so much the oil it's self, but a persons perception of it. He also has a much better nose than I do. My partner also hates hazelnut cappuccino and I think it's awesome...
  18. Vanilla is my all time fav, but I also love the super sweet bakery type scents and Nag Champa. I'm also a big fan of a creamy natural candle, but when coloured, I like purples and blues - mainly pastel shades as I don't really like bright "in your face" colours. I think because I associate candles with peaceful / calming / relaxation vibes, so I guess I like them to look that way as well.
  19. 1 cup of wax weighs 135g (approx) 4 cups of wax weighs 540g (approx) 540g = 19oz
  20. Thanks very much for your replies! I don't think I will risk it as I have no idea where it came from or who made it. I will continue to enjoy it as a non burning work of art. I was totally amazed watching the vid on youtube, and ksranch I am in awe that you can make these - they are truly amazing!
  21. Many many years ago I was given a carved candle for my birthday. I never used it as it's too beautiful to burn, but this morning I happened to watch a video on youtube which said they burn down the middle, leaving the amazing work untouched, and then you can just place a tealight back in the well and enjoy "burning" the candle forever (essentially). Would this be true for mine as well, or was that just this particular artists design? It's quite amusing to think I could have been enjoying it in a whole different way for the last 15 years, other than looking at it and dusting it every now and then
  22. I'm one of those weirdo's who likes flickering candles (as long as I am not in a blackout at the time and actually need a steady light for something). It's like watching an aquarium...something quite mesmerising about a flickering candle. Ok, so that was a bit of rambling, and not at all helpful to you, but hmmmm, no excuse, sorry.
  23. I love the blue ones! And vanilla is that *can't resist* scent for me...ticks all the boxes They are all lovely, but the blue is my favourite.
  24. Wow they are amazing! I feel like I should be saying a lot more about them, but every time I look at the pics I just sit here staring and thinking "wow".
  25. I like the second style, but I like the gold wire on the first.
