  1. If you are using soy then that may be what is going on. I have the same thing happen with my soy candles but only with certain dyes. I've not tried the CO yet so very interested in reading up on this! Let me know how it turns out for you!
  2. I have been making incense for a while now and following the directions exactly with the amounts of DPG and FO...soaking for the 24 hours and drying for more than 48 just to be sure. Anyway, my problem is that the cones or sticks are not burning right. They have to be relit with any FO I use. Any suggestions or ideas or does anyone else have the same problem? If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them b/c I have tons of requests for this but am afraid to sell any right now since with testing I just can't seem to get these to do what I think they should as far as burning w/o having to re-light.
  3. I have actually done the wick up/down and still get the same results. This is very frustrating to me. I have even went up as far as the 62's with these. I really don't think that the wicks are the problem but the wax. I am getting ready to try the other box of wax to see if I get the same results. If the wax is the problem, what else can I do? I have never had this happen before so.......I am open to any and all suggestions on this one. I have thought about adding a little of another wax to see if maybe that will help. If I do that, any suggestions on where to start? I appreciate the reply and hope that maybe I can have better results with this next box! Thanks again!
  4. I use EZSoy from BC, 8 oz. JJ's, with 51-32-18 wicks from BC (always worked great for these jars for me), same supplier as I have always used for FO's, use dye chips for colors. I pour at slushy stage also. Having said this, I am having trouble with my wicks that seem to "drown out" and get "ashy" after the first initial burn. I have no idea what is going on here. I bought wicks from Cierra Candles also just to see if maybe the wicks were the problem but these did the same thing on me. Is it possible that maybe it's not my wicks but my wax?? I bought 2 of the 50# boxes of EZSoy my last order and have just finished up the first box but have not tried the 2nd one yet. I've just never had this problem before and it has me really frustrated. I'm afraid to put any of my candles out there with this going on. Can anyone give me any ideas as to what might be causing this?? I don't know if maybe I need to give more information on what I am doing but if so, please feel free to ask. I just need some suggestions and ideas as to what might be going on so I can get past this and make the candles that I am used to making and that my customers have been happy with! Luckily, so far no complaints but would love to keep it that way! Thanks!
  5. Thanks again Carol. I will order a sample of it and compare it to the body wash that I have and see if it is the same.
  6. Thanks Carol. I searched their site but didn't see anything other than Desire and wasn't sure if this was it or not. It didn't say that it had been renamed like some of the other VS scents they have listed so will go back and check again. I went back in and checked the site again and they have the Karma Sutra Desire. Would this be the same as the VS My Desire type scent?
  7. I have been searching for VS Desire. Does anyone know if this scent has been duped yet or not? I have a customer that is really wanting this and so far I'm not having any luck finding it from any of the suppliers I have checked their sites. If anyone knows where or if any of them have this could you please let me know? It would sure be appreciated! Thanks!
  8. I really appreciate the replies to this. I know what those of you are saying on the clamshells. I really have absolutely no luck with those at all. They don't sell for me. I have a stock of tarts that I have made now and will put in my booth at the craft mall. I sell them fairly cheap....or I think that I do for this area anyway. I am doing the half ounce for .50 each and the one ounce for .80. So far I have had great success with selling for .80 on the one ounce so will see how the half ounce go over. I have those pkg'd. in singles but did make up a few 3 pks. of the same scent of the half ounce just to see what happens with them. I had the same thoughts as some of you with the variety and being able to buy more than one scent at a time to try out rather than having a bunch of something that you may not like the smell of. I will let you know how the 3 pks. go over, if they do! I just think I will give it a shot and see for now with the holidays coming up so soon. Who knows? Maybe someone will need a small inexpensive gift and my tarts may just fit their needs! Again, thanks for the replies on this! I thought I was on the right track by selling individuals but just wanted to see what some others were doing with their tarts also. Theresa
  9. I have a booth at a craft mall and I tend to sell the individual ones pretty well. I've not ventured into selling in packages yet so was just wondering about them in comparison to individual ones. I am going to try the packs and see how they do over there now that it is getting so close to the holidays but it may be that I stick to singles once we get passed Dec. I am just wanting to hear others opinions on it so thanks Judy! Appreciate the input from you! Hoping others will chime in also!
  10. I have been making tarts for a while now and seem to have pretty good luck with selling them individually. I was just wondering how everyone else sells theirs. Do you package them individually, 3 pks., 6 pks. or 12 pks.? The ones I am trying out now (I've not tried selling this size yet) are the 1/2 oz. ones made in the fluted molds and I would really like to find me some one oz. fluted molds to do also. I have been selling mine in the little foil candy cups that I get from KY that are one oz. each but would love to find this same size in the fluted molds. Another thing I was curious about is the size that most make. Either 1/2 oz. or 1 oz. I am just trying to decide whether to make any changes or not to mine so any input on this would be great! TIA!
  11. I use this wax for all of my container candles and absolutely love it! I know that it is a matter of personal preference on waxes but for me this is my wax of choice for containers. I have bright colors with my candles and very little to no soot. I make both 8 oz jelly and masons using a 51-32-18z wick in them and they do just fine. Clean burn, very little wax left over if any...usually only what is left at the bottom of the container when it is time to discard the candle. I buy my dye ships locally from a place here and they work great for me. I have tried other waxes and like I said, this one has been the best I have tried so far and I have continued to use it for the past 3 years without any problems.
  12. One thing I will say about candlechem as far as the scents go.....I really have never got a "bad" scent from there however, I have got a few that just weren't strong enough for my liking. Now, I hate and I do mean HATE vanilla and pumpkin pie but I did on a whim try the Vanilla Pumpkin Pie, have it burning now in Joy wax from NG. Just made these this afternoon to test since I had another order for these today and since I test each and every batch before sending out finished products etc. I will say that I have actually found that I can stand this scent even though it has a mixture of 2 scents that I just detest beyond reason! I'm telling you if you want a great vanilla pumpkin pie scent this is it IMO. Just remember what I said, both of these are scents that I HATE with a passion and to make either one of them I have to open every window in my house just to make sure that I don't have the smell of either in my house but......I love this one! I'm out of it now so gonna have to place an order again for this since I have been informed that I have at least 4 more that are wanting candles made with this. Ok, I am done plugging this scent!
  13. I've ordered from both and love Candle Source....great service and great oils. Candlechem for me has been hit and miss on some things but love the Vanilla Pumpkin Pie.....can't keep that one in stock right now.
  14. I normally will check out the classifieds to try things that I have not tried before. Great way to check out other suppliers or to try things out without having to pay so much for them. I have found things that work and things that don't for me. I have so many scents now that I don't have room for more! Anyway, samplers are a great way to go or check out the classy ads. You just never know what you might find there! I found a scent that I never thought about trying before until it appeared in the classy ads...falling leaves...don't recall offhand which suppiler but I love it! Have to check the bottle.
  15. I too am so sorry for the losses you have experienced lately. My heart goes out to you! I can't say that selling on ebay has been a great way to go for me, however, I have several repeat customers that have been directed to my site from ebay. I know that most people on ebay are looking for bargain type items and that quality handpoured products don't get what they should on ebay either. IMO it is up to the person on what to do. I don't see how some can sell their tarts at the prices they do. For example I have seen people sell 50 or so tarts for like $3-4 or less....it just makes me wonder. Are they using ebay as a stepping stone for them to start up or are they just trying to get rid of things they don't want like maybe some bad wax or scents? I have no idea. Like I said, I will use ebay at times, mostly to move things that might not be selling well for me or just to get my name out. It works sometimes, others I don't sell a thing.
  16. Any suggestions on a good place to buy these from? Would prefer to buy from a supplier that the price includes both the jars and lids but have came up empty handed on this so far. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get these at a reasonable price without having to buy jars and lids separately? TIA
  17. I used these oils in EZ-Soy before switching over to Joy Wax and these all work great for me in either wax.
  18. Lisa those are fantastic looking tarts! I would have never thought about doing something like this at all! It just amazes me the creativity on this board. What a way to market and advertise your product. Better than a business card I say! Way to go!
  19. This is exactly why I wanted to try them out. Thanks for the suggestions. I am ordering wicks today and will do both the smaller size wick and what you just suggested. I probably have made a big mistake by not checking this before now but I have not been selling much to other than family and friends, they have been brutally honest with me on my candles. However, I have also told them about discarding the candle when there is just about an inch of wax left since that is what the labeling states and none of them had said anything to me about burning longer than I told them. Maybe they wouldn't tell me that since they were given instructions about this...who knows? Thanks again for the help and yes, it did help with giving me a starting point on what to do and of course, where to spend more money! LOL!!
  20. Thanks! Guess I can try that and see if it would work. I don't normally burn for long periods of time like this but just wanted to see what would happen with doing this. Most of the time I stop burning the candle even when the wax gets this low and use the remaining wax for my warmer since I can't see lighting a candle with that little wax left. It was just an experiment I was trying anyway b/c I am sure that alot of people will try to get as much as they can out of a candle and there is nothing wrong with that so I wanted to see just how much I could actually get out of one of mine. I will try to wick down and see how that works. **Just to add here also, I made a mistake with the wick size but I think most know that I meant to say I use a 51-32-18z. What a dingbat I am today!!**:embarasse
  21. I have been using this wax for a while now and love it! For me, it is the best one for me to use for several reasons. That being said, I use 1 oz. of FO pp with 51-31-18z wicks and those are doing an excellent job with no hang ups etc. My question is for those of you that do use this wax, if you are using this same wick also, do you get the soot when you get to the bottom of the candle? I have not had this happen until I burn the candle for longer than 4 hrs. and have about 2" of wax left in the bottom of the container. I use the 8 oz. straight side JJ's also. I know that I should not burn the candle for any longer than 4 hours at a time and should discard the candle when there is about an inch of wax left, but, just wanted to know what would happen if someone were to do this. I followed the NG sites recommendations on the wicking and also have tried the cc wicks in this same size with the same results. I am just wondering if anyone else has the same thing happen. The candle burns great for me without the soot and black rims during the burns (even past 4 hrs.) until the wax gets to the 2" point so could it be that the depth of the wax remaining causes this?
  22. I also buy from Candle Chem off of ebay and have got some very good oils from there. I can't remember right off hand which ones I have bought since there are so many I have tried but I do buy alot from here and from Loren at candlesource. One thing I like about Candle chem is that if you buy 6 of the 2 oz. scents shipping is free and they ship just as quick as Loren does from what my experiences have been with them. I like this option since I only buy my seasonal scents normally in the 2 oz. sizes. I don't carry alot of seasonals so it works out great for me and I know that if I need something from them if I happen to run out, I can just pick me out 6-2oz. bottles and don't have to worry about paying the shipping! That works out for me!
  23. I am wanting to start my own website but am really unsure of where to start. I'm not computer literate so would need a server that is fairly easy to work as far as how to set it up. I am also looking for something that is not real expensive or one that I don't have to pay for a year upfront. I know that I will have to pay for the domain name in advance for the year and would like to not have that be an expensive thing to do also. I know that I may be asking alot here as far as expense goes but I do know that there are some servers that do not charge your arm, leg and first born! Any ideas on where to go to start or where some of you have sites at that are easy to set up that are not expensive? I would also like to have one that has a shopping cart on it with the option to pay through Paypal and maybe even a shipping calculator that can be set up. Am I asking for too much? I am so new to this website thing so any help would be greatly appreciated from any of you. Thanks!
  24. Of these that you ordered I get the Sugared Spruce every fall to go through the winter and I can't keep it around long enough. It sells like crazy for me and it is a really nice strong sweet spruce scent IMO. I love it and I'm not much for spruce or piney scents. I have a lady in CO. that buys everything I have made of this one. It works great in soy, paraffin and parasoy...very strong throw cold and hot. I'm not sure about the others you ordered so can't help you on them but just had to add my opinion on the Sugared Spruce!
  25. I order from here all the time and like others have said, I have yet to get a bad oil from them. I order my warmers, oils and jars and the shipping is fast and they are more personable than most suppliers are. Unfortunately I am not making much right now due to my back surgery at the end of June but am dying to get back at it and order some fall and holiday scents! You can't go wrong with this supplier! **By the way, if you are in the market for the combo warmers you can email them too and get wholesale prices on them. There is a minimum order amount like others have but these are very pretty and I sell the heck out of them! I think they are like $9 each which is the best price I have found so far on the combo warmers without all the hassles of sending in tax id #'s and business license info. You might be able to get them for less at other supplies but I liked the hassle-free ordering with Loren on these! Just thought I would mention this in case anyone is interested!**
