  1. Can someone please explain to me how the flashpoint of a FO will change how you use that fragrance. Do you have to add it to the wax when the temperature gets below it's flashpoint, or does it just mean that if it reaches that temperature on its own, it will ignite? Appreciate all insight....... Thanx
  2. I apologize beforehand if this is a stupid question, but as a newbie I sit at the computer with a clipboard and make notes of everything I read on this forum in order to make my candles better..... What type of wax is OK6228? Who makes it? Where can one purchase it? Thanks
  3. I sent them an email over a week ago asking about when they would be restocking their wax inventory. Nachelle replied that wax would be available during the beginning of the week of 8/29, but it appears that is incorrect.......
  4. Still makes no sense..... Tiki Island is in Texas. The other "Tiki Island" which is not an actual place, rather a name for an area, is part of French Polynesia. Mauritius is in the Indian Ocean....
  5. Tike?????? Please explain...... What does tike mean?
  6. Hi Corinne, I did the same thing when I was a teenager in South Africa. Made my own candles from the white ones you buy in the store, and my wax crayons. I have to admit that they turned out pretty good. I wouldn't say they burned that well, but they looked really cool. I love Mauritius. Spent many vacations there as a child. Trou aux Biches was our favorite. Also stayed at a place in Curepipe, but I don't remember the name. Lovely island. Very unspoilt and natural (or at least in was 20 years ago).....
  7. You know, I thought about that, but then I wondered if the latex would take as the engraving is not that deep. I just thought I'd let you know that it was just short of 3 hours, about 2 hours 40 minutes, but we were watching a movie at the time - I had one eye on the candle - so it seemed to go by pretty quickly. I might try it again one of these days. I had the idea of maybe doing a candle in dark brown or black, engraving it, then dusting it lightly with some gold dust! Could turn out nicely......
  8. Thank you..... maybe that's the thing..... I don't know where I got 1 tsp from?!?!?
  9. Well, I tried again today, and I took them out of the molds a few minutes ago, with the same result. There is no chance of contamination as I cleaned the pouring pots and molds. The only things I used that had been used before, were the skewers that I use for stirring. I'm at a total loss, and really mad that I wasted money on a CASE of 1274...... I really need to get this to work...... I used 1 tsp FO to 1lb 1274.
  10. How much would that translate to per pound? I used 1 tsp FO to a pound of wax. Too much or too little?!?!?
  11. I don't like "shiny smooth" candles, much prefer mottles and rustics, so I ordered a case of IGI1274, and yesterday tried to make a few mottles. The IGI specs say you should not add anything to the wax, other than FO, as it will affect the mottle, and to leave it to cool slowly. I poured at 185 degrees, as the specs stated, and left the candles to cool overnight. When I removed them from the molds this morning...NOT ONE MOTTLED!!!! Not even a slight snowflake - perfectly smooth and translucent.... and I'm very unimpressed to say the least! What did I do wrong? I was under the impression that 1274 was the perfect wax for mottling..... Any advice from you pros would be most appreciated.
  12. Thank you! Yes, it took me almost 3 hours to do the engraving, and my hand feels like it's about to cramp up, but I definitely think it was worth it. I used a small knitting needle!!!!
  13. Beautiful, especially with that candleholder! Is it rustic, or crackle - it's kind of hard to see.
  14. Here is a candle I made yesterday. I love the scent, it smells like a bunch of roses, but I just wasn't happy with the "shiny" appearance of the candle..... it looked too modern. So I came up with an idea to engrave the entire candle with a scroll-like design, and this is how it came out. I was very pleased with the result!
  15. I have to chime in here about the bear thing..... Maybe I missed the point somewhere along the line, but I can only ask why??? Why dip a bear in wax so that it will smell nice?!?!?!? Candles, incense and air freshener are for fragrances, bears are for loving...... Just my .02c worth!
  16. WOW, those are all so beautiful. I especially love the flower luminaries. You are very talented, and I wish you lots of sales!!!
  17. Oh my Gosh!!! I love those..... Just looking at them and I get a "sense" of the smell. Beautiful - love the color with that scent. I'm going to have to try that myself.
  18. I purchased molds and a bunch of FO's and dyes, and was very impressed. My problem was the shipping time - I'm in NC and it took a week to get to me. And - when I want to make candles - I WANT TO MAKE THEM NOW.......
  19. WOW! Thanks Everyone!!!!! I was disappointed with how the Coffee mottle turned out, but it seems to be everyone's favorite - just shows....... As far as the drape is concerned - yes, it is upside down. I thought it looked a little strange the right way up, so I turned it over. Just my personal preference. I just want to make candles for my use so I figured it was okay.
  20. I wanted to post some candles I recently made. I'm relatively new to the whole process, but I'm really enjoying it, and learning a lot from this forum. Thank you to all of you who share your talents..... First one is a Vanilla Rustic. I fought with this one to get it out of the mold!!! I thought it was going to get the better of me, but DH was finally able to push it out from the wick hole!! Next time I'll use cooking spray!!! Second is also Vanilla (still learning - don't want to get too adventurous just yet ). I tried the drape and layer effect. Third is a Coffee Mottle. Very disappointed with this one, but WOW does it smell good. Appreciate any comments.......
  21. Thank you for all these great responses, and Thank you Alan! I did receive an email from Nachelle last night, explaining that waxes will be available beginning of the week of 8/29. I will wait until then to order, as it seems you are all Peak Candle fans, and that has to augur well for the company!!!
  22. Thanks - I'll try again and see what transpires!
  23. Hi All, I'm a newbie to the forum. Been lurking around for a month or two, and finally had to break my silence to ask a question about Peak Candle Supplies. From what I gather from everyone here, they're a good place to order from, that is if they had anything to order!!!!! They seem to be out of stock of most waxes, and other odds that I wanted to order - wick clips, molds, oh, all the things one really needs to make candles - and it's been that way for a while. I emailed them the other day, but still have had no reply...... Where else can one order good quality waxes and dyes? Looking forward to a long and happy association with you all.
