  1. I set it up just the other day. Figuring out how to do the shipping costs was a bit of a pain. Lots of little steps but at least they are all easy.
  2. Other than the Spinach Fennel (ewww, IMHO), all of the fragrances are very standard scents. I won't be trying them. Hope those who do like them.
  3. Someone explained to me that it's very much like homemade soup - always better the next day! That's about as scientific as I get.
  4. Thanks but these appear to be the smaller ones. Each cube holds .4 oz of wax so that makes 2.4 oz. Even overfilling won't get me to 3.5 oz of wax. Maybe I'm dreaming that I saw 3.5 oz of actual wax clamshells somewhere.
  5. Try Store Supply Warehouse and item number 68-302, 3 panel shelf displayer. $74.50
  6. What a great idea. I lost my father to cancer. This may seem odd but Elf Sweat at Nature's Garden is an uplifting, effervescent scent, on the sweet side. It could be Believe. There is nothing Christmasy about the scent. Millcreek Soy make a scent called Tranquil. I myself was going to rename it to something as I don't find it to be a Tranquil scent but I know it would fit in with your theme. Maybe Inspiration. Again, might be odd but get a sample of Absinthe from Nature's Garden. I've sniffed several Absinthe's but Nature's Garden is wonderful. It is so unique. Maybe it would be Strength. Oakmoss Clary Sage from Southwest Candle Supply is a very nice scent. I a bit spa like. I know it would fit your collection. Comfort could be an Oatmeal Milk n Honey scent. Not sure which supplier. Jacuzzi at Nature Garden is another really surprising lovely scent. Maybe Promise. Jade from Nature's Garden is a strong (not harsh!) scent. Maybe that would be the Strength. Then Absinthe could be Courage. I'm trying to think of scents that are not run of the mill yet really nice smelling with broad appeal. Dream, maybe some kind of a lavender. Is that too obvious? Mediterranean Fig at Millcreek Soy is also a nice scent. Not fruity but a bit of sweetness. Seems Celtic Moonspice from Aroma Haven woud fit in somewhere. If you getting samples from AH, get Sparkling Poinsettia. Again, not Christmasy but it is a floral with some kick to it. I could see it fitting in. Vanilla Champagne from Nature's Garden is also upligting and you can pick up on the bubbliness. No liquor notes. Maybe Hope.
  7. Stella, I read that on the site. I get it. . I was just wondering if anyone knows, from using the site, about how often it is updated. Maybe a casual observance. As far as taking time to answer, I do appreciate it but not when answers are demeaning. This has been a consistent style of answer to my questions by that poster, not only to me but I've noticed it to others. I've asked her before to simply not respond to me if she can't be nice about it.
  8. You are always so helpful and kind, just never ceases to amaze me. Really, I've advised you before to just not read my posts and stop giving yourself heart palpitations over my consistent ignorance and frivolous questions. In any event, your red and bold font is meaningless to my comments and questions. I'm still surprised it is not a paid subscription site (not voluntary as it currently is) and I do wonder if Fragrance Oils supplier pay a fee to be part of the list. Just because there is a donation option, does not negate potential for suppliers to pay a fee.
  9. What does this mean? I was thinking of making these as drawer sachets for my sisters, nieces, etc. for Mothers Day.
  10. Just Scents has Ed Hardy types. Have never ordered from there so can't comment about quality, etc. I believe I also so Happy. Can't remember about the others. Also, check out Hayward Enterprises, they have a ton of perfume dupes. There is one other that I can't think of at the moment that carries all designer dupes. I'll come back and post when I remember it. I'm back and remembered it. Try Chemworld, scroll down past the first few links to the most popular perfume house brands.
  11. I'd love to know the story behind the site. Do you know who owns it or maintains it? I'm surprised it's not a paid subscription site. Do the suppliers pay a fee to be on it? Back to my original question, do you know how often it is updated with new and old are deleted? Thanks@
  12. The only one that inspired me was the Stars and Stripes and I thought the same thing as Tomora, apple pie or blueberry pie.
  13. Be prepared to spend a couple of years building a following. Are you hoping to replace your full time job with income from a candle business? If yes, lots of proactive sales will be needed on your part. Craft fairs, website, home parties, approaching local schools with fund raisers and then having the time to make the stock to fulfill all those orders! Build an email list. Also, expect to invest a couple thousand dollars, for sure. Maybe one thousand if you start small. Jars, wax, fragrance oils, wicks, equipment like scales, thermometers, measuring cups, paper towels and melters etc, dyes, labels, packaging, websites, printer. There is lots of testing and waste. You need a lot of room for everything. I agree with previous poster. Make a shopping list to get started and start buying your candle making supplies. Wouldn't worry too much about mailing packaging or labels or websites until you have a candle you are proud of. I don't make candles, only tarts, but my head does spin when I read about pouring temps, how much oil (more is not better because wick can't take it up???), types of wicks, wicking up???, repours, etc.. Does Lone Star have a starter kit? For candles, if you are selling at craft fairs or home parties, cold throw is as important as hot throw. I never really thought about that until recently. Apply for a state business license and find out about your retail sales tax laws. Paypal account. Check out the competition, websites, etc. Get a feel for styles, jars, scents, prices, labeling. I think as long as you have warning labels on your candles, you're ok but I'm not sure. I'm sure a lawyer will want you to have some kind of liability insurance but I doubt most home based chandlers carry that. I could be wrong. Of course, disclaimer on the web site is also helpful. esty.com has many home made candle makers, good place for research. So is candelfind.com. Read the forums for insight into customers. Vendors are not allowed to post. This is probably all very basic but hopefully helped a little. Most of all, you have to love it.
  14. Ok. I thought it was wholesale value. Yes, I'm aware this is not a craft show. I had never heard of "cash and carry" type trade shows.
  15. Thank you so very much. I've never ordered from SBS but any excuse to try a new supplier! I've read good things on the board. Thanks, again.
  16. I've never used a light bulb type so I'm not sure. I wonder if the throw is very different between a 12 watt hot plate and a 24 watt hot plate now that I know they melt all types of tarts. I hate to place a small order, pay the shipping, etc., but I just might have to.
  17. I have never ordered from Fillmore and I was hacked, therefore, I doubt it was Fillmore's system. Thanks for the great email and you are on my wish list of FOs to try.
  18. FarmerJill, According to JKL, all their electric burners are hot plate and they are all 12 watt. (I am using and sell 24 watt hot plate). I'm curious to know if anyone is using a JKL and if it melts all tarts, only soy tarts, etc.
  19. Thank you. I think I won't chance it. I use 25 watts melting plate style in my house and also sell them and they melt my tarts and every other tart I tried. I wonder why the one from Harvest won't melt yours. What kind of wax are you using.
  20. I'm curious about the dollar amounts being discussed. When the suggest is to bring at least $8000 in inventory, is the $8000 the wholesale price at which you will sell at the cash and carry, the retail value, or the cost of raw materials?
  21. I was putting together an order for JKL but couldn't find any info about their wattage so I called them. 12 watts. That seems incredibly low. The receptionist said she has no issue burning Yankee in them. Has anyone used them for personal use and do you sell them? How is the throw with such low wattage?
  22. Thank you to all who took the time to give me solid advice. I actually really enjoy the testing and research process and have been very happy thus far with my blend and have stayed with it. I'm going to begin researching soy as it seems this "green" movement continues to pick up steam. I have my first small order placed and the fun begins.
  23. Yes, Peaks and Cajun. Completely forgot those two. Definitely great!
  24. I can name at least 10 Fragrance Oils I use that come to life in wax and are not good at all OOB, particularly those with vanilla notes. French Crumb Cake, Toasted Marshmallow, Creme Brulee come to mind. Green Tea and Cucumber really blossoms in wax compared to OOB. Nature's Garden Vamp Vogue is another that is wonderful in wax and just OK OOB. Just to name a few.
