  1. I smelled it today, and the cold throw smells a little less harsh. Maybe it just takes a little curing. I will definitely try to mix it up a little next time. I am not using soy, using 4726.
  2. Has anyone else used this? I made a batch of candles the other day, and they smelled very strong, too strong actually. I know in the candle world there could never be TOO strong of a candle, but with this scent it was. I feel that it is too spicy or something. I didn't like it at all. Maybe it would be good to mix with a vanilla frosting FO or something. Has anyone had luck with mixing this FO, or do you like it by itself? Maybe it is just me. Everybody likes something different.
  3. I love this post. It sounds like me tinkering in my kitchen ruining my kitchen utensils as I am too broke to buy anything for its specific purpose, making a mess, but then... at least I have some candles to show for it. My husband wants to know what happened to the pot we used to use for spaghetti noodles. I use it as my "double boiler" and the insides of it are now flaking off.
  4. I completely agree! I love being a part of a group of people who work together, not against each other. There is so much information on here. I love seeing what everyone else is making. It is inspirational. It is also nice to know that there are others out there doing the same thing I am doing. I don't have any friends who make candles, so it is great to be able to talk to all of you who share the same wonderful, addictive interest.
  5. I am really loving those pillars! They look really great! What technique is this?
  6. Thanks guys. Good to know I am not the only one! Good to know I will have something to calm my nerves after a long hard day working as a nurse!
  7. Thankfully, he likes my candle hobby! Money is just tight right now, so that is why I am trying to "make do." It's fun to see what I can come up with. I will post some pics soon. Today, I am making some small Love Spell apothecary jar candles.
  8. with making candles. I probably need help. I am a 24-year-old nursing student. I recently quit working as a legal assistant, and now that I am unemployed, I have the constant urge to make something creative. I guess sitting around studying all day, going to class, doing all the house chores, etc. is just not enough to keep my brain happy. It is very hard not going to work everyday (believe it or not.) I am happy to be able to focus on my studies, but at the same time I am constantly thinking about these CANDLES. I am trying not to spend my husband's hard earned money on my candle making obsession, since this is not what I am supposed to be focusing on! It is so hard to not have the expendible cash that I had before. Not that it was much, but it was SOMETHING. I am supposed to be focusing on my education! Ugh! I am feeding my habit right now with some freecycled baby food jars and left over supplies from past "candle supply shopping binges." I wish I had a ton of cash, so I could support this expensive hobby. I love making candles!!! I'm sure you are all right there with me on that note! Oh, and last night I went to a speaking on saving money, and one of the door prizes was a hand-poured candle in a jelly jar. Everytime, I see something like that, I think, "Man! I could have done that!" Sorry for the novel guys!
  9. Hey guys! I need some help. I used an HTP-83 wick in a 16 oz. mason jar, using IGI-4627, and when this candle burns, it ends up tunnelling. What wicks would you suggest that I try? Also, would you suggest double wicking in this container, or is it not wide enough? -Thanks for your input!
  10. I am having the same problem using this wax. It is very soft, and I haven't learned how or what to be adding to the wax yet.
  11. Since I am just starting out, I use a kitchen pot, put some lids from mason jars on the bottom of it, then put my melting pot on top of the lids, and pour water in the pot to get the double boiler effect. I recommend using an old kitchen pot, because the one I used started peeling away on the inside. I would love to get something to melt more wax at a time, but it will have to do for now.
  12. These are SO pretty! Awesome job!
  13. Thanks guys! I will check that out!
  14. I am new here, so I thought I would say hello! I recently began making candles, which is something that I have wanted to do for a LONG time! Due to my lack of funds, it has been a very slow process. I have always loved candles, and am excited to be making my own! I have been reading some of your posts, and I think that it is so nice to have a place to chat with others about the art of candlemaking. So far, I have been using the comfort blend parrafin wax in my containers. It seems to be doing well, but is not a one pour as it describes. I would like to learn more about additives to maybe thicken it up and make the burn time longer, and where to buy the best fragrance oils. Thanks for reading! -Jenny
