  1. Nope, I didn't. Hey if none of you guys recommend a supplier, I am leery of ordering from them. Besides, see my above post. I just need to order some more jars and some more pumpkin. But that is boring. I don't make mass quantities of candles or so it's silly to just keep ordering FO's. I emptied the rest of a 4 oz bottle of cinnamon bun today and it felt so good to have one less bottle in my stash. Now I can start on the 16 oz bottle from Aztec. When I reorder my jars and the specially priced Granny's Pumpkin Pie from The Candlemaker's Store, I am going to try to be content with just adding a four oz bottle of Fireside which is on sale. I want to try something smokey. Wonder if you can blend it? But then Candlescience has a Christmas Hearth with the smokey smell which I read on here somewhere was very good. Ah...I've got it! I should just stay off of this forum!!!
  2. Why, how did you know? One of my tabs is open to Cajun right now. So far I've picked 8 oz of Creme Brulee and 8 oz of Christmas Memories because someone on here kept saying it was da bomb! But someone else said it smelled liked spiced orange and I already have a cranberry orange spice from Indiana Candle Supply. It's very sweet of you to offer to send me a sample of Creme Brulee but I'll take your word for it. Actually I stopped typing for a few and went to smell my cranberry orange spice and realized again how very many bottles of fragrance oil I have. Several I haven't even used yet! So maybe I'll hold off on ordering from Cajun. If I weaken, I'll go back to my cabinet and sort through my FO's again.
  3. Oh man!! I've been wanting some Creme Brulee.....Thanks a lot Belinda. By the way, I like your name, but not your enabling.
  4. I do order from Millcreek. I like their 2 oz sample sizes. Never from Bitter Creek, or Cajun or Lonestar....yet. I'm thinking about starting a group on here....trying to think of a name. OOA...over orderers anonymous? TMFOA....too many fragrance oils anonymous? The trouble is, I don't think anyone would want to join. As Denzel Washington said in Flight....I CHOOSE to be an alcoholic. Well I CHOOSE to keep ordering fragrance oils even though I have to keep finding room to store them. It's fun, darn it!
  5. Well I already have enough suppliers anyway. I added one new one this year, Aztec, after reading about them on this forum. They have good sales, and I got to use two promos, one from facebook and one by texting a code. I like the suppliers who have facebook pages. I like my tried and true suppliers like Peak and Candlescience. I like my Hoosier suppliers like Indiana Candle Supply and Mill Creek. I like RE because they have the Home Interiors Dup of Baked Apple. I like the Candlemakers Store because they're one state away from me, and that's where I get my wax usually, and my new cute little jars that were on sale at such a good price AND included lids! So I guess I shouldn't be looking at new suppliers! Not AAA, not Fillmore, not even Bitter Creek. I don't want to find any more fragrances I can only get at one place so I have to order from there, plus get more to make the shipping worth it. I must be strong...no Google searches. No clicking on topics here regarding suppliers I don't order from.
  6. I was doing a google search for a container and found this supplier. Never heard of 'em till today. Guess I never paid attention to that name on the list of suppliers and abbreviations. I can't remember anyone ever mentioning AAA Candle Supply on any forum here. So does anyone order from them? One thing I don't like right off the bat is I can't find any scent descriptions. The FO prices are reasonable though, with price breaks if you 6 or more bottles of either the 8 oz or 16 oz. They do carry a lot of candle containers. I haven't completely checked out their website yet, as I'm just wondering why their name never comes up around here.
  7. 'Opinions are like noses, everybody has one.' And boy oh boy, does everyone have their own opinions about every facet of candle making. Since I've been changing up things after 5 years, I've been doing a lot of online research about waxes and wicks and pour temps and cure time and on and on. So just like I did when I first started, I'm going to figure out what works for me. (After reading all the opinions about cure time, I dug out the instruction pamphlet from the first supplier I ever ordered from, Northstar, and sure enough, it said to let the candle made with GW444 cure for at least 12 hours. So that's what I've been doing for 5 years and it's worked fine for me.) But I still love to hear other's opinions about FO's. I like the sites that have FO reviews. Even then, some Fo's get one star from one person, then 5 from another. And I'll never buy anything that smells like incense no matter how many good reviews it gets. I enjoyed reading your rant from 2008.
  8. Got my new Aztec FO's today. Boy! That was fast. I ordered on the 15th late at night. They shipped it yesterday and it arrived this afternoon! My favorites OOB are Caramel Pecan Pie and after that, Pumpkin Cheesecake. I actually liked every one of the fragrances OOB. Toasted Marshmallow Baked Apple Pie Lavender (very nice!) Gingerbread Christmas Tree Farm Closeout Cinnamon Bun I love that for every 8 and 16 oz bottle I bought, I got a free 1 oz sample which were: Georgia Peach - smells just like a peach Wisteria - nice! Sweet Pea - also nice (and I'm not crazy about florals. I will put these two in soap) Cream Brulee (Yum!) Amish Harvest Victorian Christmas Orange Blossom - really like this one Oatmeal and Honey - for some reason this smelled like almond to me. Tomorrow, I'm making some Caramel Pecan Pie candles.
  9. You are so right, and I guess I thought a tumbleweed was a dead sagebrush. Turns out it's not. But sagebrush does grow in the desert. Sorry to sort of hijack your thread.
  10. Oh! I was thinking sagebrush like those dry things that roll across deserted streets of a ghost town in old westerns, not sage like you put in stuffing. Herbal Apple Apples and Herbs
  11. Desert Apple Except there are no apple trees in the desert. Oh well.
  12. I made my granddaughter a rather large double-wicked Cozy Home Candle and sent it home by her Mom yesterday. Last night Brianna called me and said that when she got home from work, she walked into her room and the whole room smelled so good. She was surprised and couldn't figure out where that wonderful scent was coming from. She thought maybe her Mom had put one of those Glade Plug in things in her room or something. Then she finally saw the candle I had made. She admitted that sometimes her room doesn't smell so fresh (she's NOT a neat freak like her mom, ) So she was so happy to walk into her bedroom and find that it smelled like magic. So I guess I can attest to the fact that Mill Creek's Cozy Home has a wonderfully strong cold throw. (For myself though, I am in love with RE's Baked Apple HI type. All through the 80's and early 90's, when I would go to a Home Interiors Party, I would buy a Baked Apple Candle, my all time favorite candle. I was so happy to find RE's Baked Apple.) I just wanted to share this little story, because don't you just love it when people appreciate your candles? I keep my immediate family supplied with candles. I made my little grandson a Red Velvet Cake candle because he loves Red Velvet cake anything so much. My son was at a store with his girlfriend and she picked up a candle. He informed her that anyone in our family who buys candles from a store is considered a traitor.
  13. Thanks Karen, I did order a box of the 464, but I still have two 50 lb boxes of the 444. Now I guess I'll see for myself which is best for me. The only time I had a real problem with wet spots was because I think I let the wax get too cool before I poured it. I read that if the wax cools too quickly in the jars, there could be wet spots. Do you notice more sink holes when you use dye? That's when I get them. I like your expression, 'candle sundial.' I don't do shows, so I don't have to worry about the sun, except when I give someone a candle in the summer I tell her not to leave it in a hot car. Thanks for your input!
  14. I learned a long time ago with 444 wax to pour when it starts to 'thicken' or get creamy for smoother tops. But it isn't working as well with dyed wax. I am using spicy fragrance oils, and of course you have to add a lot of dye to soy wax unless you want pastel colors. I just don't get why dye makes the tops sink in around the wick. Soy wax is fickle! You have been so helpful to me on different topics and I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
  15. Thanks, Amanda. I was debating between two suppliers and you helped me make up my mind. Besides Aztec is offering a one day wax on wax and I want to try it...PLUS their email newsletter has a discount code that you get by texting. So what a deal, right?!
  16. Has anyone tried Aztec's Gingerbread? I need some gingerbread. How about Pumpkin Vanilla? It was a best seller in September.
  17. One reason I've thought of switching is I've read that 464 has better glass adhesion. That hasn't been much of an issue in the past for me because I used to just make candles in cups and mugs (which I know is not generally approved of on this board.) Now I am mostly using jars, and now you can see through the glass and see any wet spots. Also since I've started using jars, I want to dye my wax more...for pumpkin, apple etc. But the tops aren't as smooth when I use dyes. There are 'sink holes' or 'craters' around the wick. I know I can use a heat gun to fix that, but I wanted to see if using 464 would make for smoother tops. I didn't think about having to change wick sizes...I figured that would be about the same. I usually use ECO wicks. I recently bought some HTP wicks and want to test them. Thanks so much for your reply and offering to help me.
  18. Aztec is having a one day sale on GW464. I've only used 444 for the past 5 years. I know 464 has a lower melt point. When I research the two waxes, some people love 464, others love 444. Is there really much difference? Thanks for any input...the sale is just today, so I need to decide quickly!
  19. Sure, I'm going to use yours. I have some fragrance oil from Aztec called 'Sweet Potato and Brown Sugar'. So I'll just call it Sweet Potato Casserole or Pie, or just Sweet Potato to go with the Toasted Marshmallow. I'm getting ready to order that from ICS, She's out right now, but told me it should be back in stock by Thursday. Could also do Hot Chocolate and Toasted Marshmallow. But first I want to try to whip some wax for a topping for hot chocolate, so I'd have to use vanilla fo I guess for that. I'm going to do that in clear mugs.
  20. Oh, I just thought of a good layer combo. Sweet potato and toasted marshmallow.
  21. I will have to do the q-tip test and check out those two scents mixed together. What would you call that fragrance blend?
  22. Ooh, I love the sound of your best seller, pumpkin, apple, cran orange. And now I understand why you make tilted Layers. so the two scents will mingle more. Thanks! I didn't think about red and orange...apple and pumpkin...but duh, that's a great combo. One I would definitely like to try is the orange/cranberry and apple pie. Pumpkin/coffee...hmmm, that's interesting. Apple and pine? That's one to think about. I have sugared spruce right now...no pine. Thanks for all your suggestions, Amanda. I love them.
  23. I want to try making layered candles...just two layers for now. I was thinking something colored and spicy on the bottom and sugar cookie or vanilla on the top, not dyed. Or should the fragrances be more similar, like pumpkin and cinnamon stick? I've been looking for examples online, just wondered what some of you creative people have come up with.
  24. I got a mixer and a stainless steel bowl. I'm anxious to try making candles with 'whipped cream' topping now, but a cousin just asked me if I had any lilac or lavender candles. Well no, not this time of year. So I may be making those now too.
