  1. I am very anxious to read your write up . I have been trying to follow but it will be good to see what you conclude . Thanks for all the time you have spent on this Laura
  2. Let me throw this out there if you don't mind. I have been testing the CD wick Vs the CDN . I was away this past weekend and one of the candles my hubby was burning was blacker than black when I returned. It was cherry lemonade with 2 CD wicks. I had another made with CDN and started burning that and it didn't turn black. I burned it a total of 16 hours 4 to 5 hours at a time. I yanked the wicks and stuck in 2 cds today and on the 2nd burn of the day black soot had formed on the wax.( 415) Now I also am burning 5 other scents with CD and they so far they are fine. They have a ways to go though. Could the citrus in the cherry lemonade give it that extra acid that would make the CDN work better with that scent? Thanks Laura
  3. may I ask what wax do you use? Thanks
  4. I have been taking notes from you and me and trying to keep up . I am thinking the since the CSN14 blew out on me at the very end ( but I went 6 hours at a time) and yours didn't blow out at all( 4 hours at a time). The CSN 14 would be the starting point for testing different FO and Colors. Do you agree ?
  5. I am still at this and wanted to update just to let you all know that I am finding that the CD are indeed performing better. You would not know this from the above photos however I have since been going down and down in size . Surprising myself by the fact that I have a CDN 12s in some side by sides and have gone down to CD8 . sO far the CD8 are not drowning out . So we will see. A side note I spoke to candlewic about the soy- 125 and they say it is very similar to what I am using and would see minimal differences if any.It holds less FO than 415 and they recommend using additives. This is not to say that I won't try a bit of it and once again thanks for the suggestion they are very much appreciated. Laura
  6. going over my notes from your test this morning and was wondering if you are still using the stearic acid with your votives as well as the CD and CDN candles. thanks
  7. Top I so love this last one the best. Do you liquid dye . I love love love that color
  8. I use Sex on the Beach from MC . i find that ihave to wick up with it and I don't color that scent .
  9. Thank you very much for you comments . you are correct when you say you see a deep melt pool. This is common for me with this wax the first couple of burns( opposite of what others report with their candles) Then it slows down and like I mentioned could possibly drown out. I looked at candlewic soy 125 and this is what they recommend : "Candlewic recommends adding either palm stearic or beewax to the blend for maximum performance. The addition of these products will help with overall quality of the waxes and will help the waxes hold and disperse higher fragrance loads." I wonder what would happen if I tried that
  10. I just had a thought ... Do you think it may be possible that I can wick down with the CD ... I know I can't with the CDN as stated above but I have never used CDs before . I can pull the wicks if I need to they are not glued down for testing .
  11. GB 415 1.3 oz FO dye 16 oz elevation jar at the largest diameter it is 4 inches The first 4 photos are CD 2nd 4 are CDN If I size down on the wicks they drown out at 1/3 to 1/2 way down the jar this is the first burn and as you can see much more mushrooming going on with the CDs Sorry the 4th and 8th photos are a previous test . They have been burned many more times I will not include them next time
  12. I get mushrooms as well the first couple of burns. I use gb415 . I have used htp wicks, cotton wicks ,CDNs and now testing CDs. they all mushroom. If I wick down the wick is too small 1/3rd to 1/2 way down then drowns out. Even with the sizes I use they struggle for a burn or two and then catch up. I haven't given up on trying as I said I am doing side by sides now with CDN and CD . Only did a first burn and I see a minimal difference both had mushrooms.Wish I had the answer. I have also cut back on my FO as much as I can to no avail. The throw is fabulous so ... got me PS the shroom doesn't bother anyone I know either except ME
  13. I was doing some testing today and noticed that my CDN 18 are smaller than my 12 14 and 16 . is that even possible?
  14. how far down do you go? Thought this is the tortoise shell testing thread, I want to show you this. This photo is the bottom( really the top) 1/2 of a candle(starburst) I made where the wick was too small. is that what you mean ?
  15. how do you do that and do you do that with the other palm waxes? I have not done any wrecking since we have been testing with the starburst . Wondering if i should be but I haven't had any problems that I know about. Thanks
  16. Since he is not online at the moment I am pretty sure that I can tell you he is not using wick pins and he is not wrecking them either. I have been following pretty carefully so I am 99% sure I answering accurately. Hop this helps
  17. I have to use larger sizes for both cinnamon and vanilla. What were the scents in your double layered one
  18. just wondering if you burnt that candle all they way down yet. I use a 24 oz jar with 415 and I see such changes through out the jar. sometimes it burn great others mushrooms and sometimes so small I am afraid it will die out. So many changes as it burns down. Do you find that?
  19. I am on the 8th 6-hour burn with my CSN 11 and 12 testers. As you can see above I lost the 14 during the 7th test burn. The CSN 11 and 12 are still burning ok with a bit more shell on the 12 than the 11 at this time. I am not sure what my conclusion is... When I made a 12 with stearic acid it burned fine as seen in this thread with my watermelon candle and is doing fine now.http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90669 I was able to continue that candle down to the end . However the CSN 11 with stearic acid in this thread did not do well and is ok now. Though I am not sure of the scent throw http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90737 I blew out the CSN 14 without stearic but after 41 hours. So I still am not sure except to say I think I have to test the CSN 12 and the 14s a bit more. I also think depending on color and FO it may the 12 wins in some cause and the 14 in others. Either way I am not sure the stearic at the small amount I use will factor in except in helping me with mold release. Would love to hear what others are thinking cause I am almost as uncertain as I was in the beginning. Thank you in advance for any helpful participation.
  20. This is the end of the 7th 6 hour test burn. I lost the CSN 14 it blew out somewhere between hour 5 and 6 . It burned 41 hours total. not sure what happened cause it was fine at start .
  21. This is the end of the 6th 6 hour burn. I still think the CSN 14 is working the best . this time around the only one the shroomed is the CSN 12. The flame on the 14 was good. the video shows that much better than the photo so I included it this time . Video http://www.box.net/shared/8vnl4j60z6
