next questions since it is not my wicks ..... who uses GB415 with those wicks? I am testing testing and more testing and struggling with wick sizes for 4 inch diameter jars. I am testing 2x CD6 and 7 now. I have another thread going showing results . haven't been able to find what I like Thanks Laura

I am still burning the from this morning . The flames are tiny and getting smaller . I don't like it. But no soot
-
during this burn last night I started to see the soot floating around on the candle. but then I didn't anymore. so it was a very small amount . I started burning this morning at 6:45am. Will post those photos later . these are from last night. Thanks for all your input!

Already pushed the wicks a bit but thanks for the advice. I burned them for 4 hours. I agree with you on the weekends I burn all day. With this one I started at 6 am this morning cooled for two hours and burned again for another 4 cooled again and started at 6 again. this is the one that I get the soot on so . I will let you know . I am so surprised that the flame is good and wick looks great this time around . But none of that mattered in the past . I get the soot no matter what. so let's see. Thanks Laura

hey you... happy mothers day! Not yet but i don't expect it until during or after burn 3

pretty good considering I only cured these a day I think two at the most
-
Thank you both. I certainly will keep going . A few things to mention. I previously wicked closer together , I don't have any vanilla in this or other I tested yet, and I too don't get the soot until after a couple of burns. But as I said I will definitely keep going and keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again and happy mothers day !

Here you have 2 CD6 wicks that burned for 4 hours. Please note that the jar was not filled all the way to the top . I pulled my 2 HTP 126 wicks out smoothed out the candle , re-wicked and let it sit over night. Did leave hang up which is ok but also mushroomed Let me know what you think please. I know there are double wickers out there that use Cd. I so would appreciate if you gave me some input as well . Maybe you could give me an idea of your average wick size please. I am not a slacker I test and test and test . I am just at a pint where I don't know what to do to improve myself. Thanks Laura PS won't know if I get the soot layer until about burn 3 to 5

ok so since all 4 are tester I just stuck the wick in them. I will pull one or two smooth out the tops and throw in 2 sixes and 2 sevens

yup I did a jelly jar that did ok with a 12 it had just a small amount of soot. I forgot about that till you mentioned it. .that had a small amount of soot
-
ok I already know 8, 10 and 14 soot so six it is
-
no your right there is a bit more. I just listen to everyone else loving them and the sizes they are using are the same and I have tried so many already that I get frustrated and wonder if the wicks could somehow be bad. I will try again thank you . If Betty white wasn't on Sat night live right now I would be crying . she has me laughing my ass off
-
I see . I would just stick with the CDNs if it wasn't for the mushroom and how hard they are to get. The Cd looks so much better . I just can't get it right. I have gone all they way down to an 8 and all the up to a 14 . I certainly will try lower again and appreciate your advice I just have a bad feeling about it. I am very frustrated
-
I can't even imagine why I am struggling so much with these . It is driving me crazy
-
of course yes its worth a try so you think lower than an 8 I will pull the wick on one of my clean ones and try that When do you get a full melt. and since the others have no hang up and they are not sooting I wonder if that really is the issue.

How To Use and Wick Tortoise Shell Palm
lrbd replied to topofmurrayhill's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
Great job . thanks -
4 inch elevation jars . 415 is the wax
-
It is not letting me upload my photo . I want to show you the other 3 pink ones. not a spec of soot and they are large shrooms and large wicks. I just don't get it. The Cd is looking better but the soot is crazy . Tops when do you achieve a full melt pool if not by 3 burns? Thanks
-
Thank you ... both of you . Give me a minute I will shoot shots of the other scents that I used 8 and 10 and the wicks are closer . These were this past week . be back This is how I normally wick . Tabs touching. These new wick holder clips I got have holes too far apart I tried them with the pink candles( cherry lemonade. ) anyway these photos are CD 8 and 10 . The ones with no soot are CDN. Thanks for looking and helping

would you be kind enough to let me know where you purchase your cd wicks Thank you
-
Ok Now I am wondering if there is anyway possible that my CD wicks are screwed up. I have started many threads about soot on the top of my wax while trying to test the CD wicks. I am on burn 3 using CD14 , CDN 14, HTP126, and CSN14 . The soot is now forming on the CD candle as it did when I used CD8, 10 and 12. This has happened to me with about 7 or more scents. Could I have purchased bad wicks ? Could they all be bad I have tried all sizes above . The other are still going with no soot . Heres the thing the CD is the one that is not mushrooming like the others. I want them to work . This is days and days of the same thing happening with the CD wick . please see http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91332

so weird right. All mine too .I am now trying a new test . It may be confusing but this is what I am doing. Cherry lemonade I know CDN14 doesn't soot or at least it didn't a couple of weeks ago. But it did mushroom . So I am doing one with that and then one with 2 CD14 instead of 12s (12s sooted bad) another with 2 CSN14 and yet another with 2 HTP126. That worked in the past but had mushrooms but no soot . Wish me luck . I would love to hear how you make out as well .

Heres the thing . I am not sure what the heck is going on.It is happening to all of them NOW. This is been happening the last month give or take. I have written about it before. I use the elevation jar 16 and 24 oz. 4 inch diameter. I have used the same wax for 4 years(415) but have never been fully pleased with the wicking . that being said I have gone from HTP, CDN and now I am trying the CD. I double wick. The HTP and CDN mushroom the CD are curling better with less mushrooming but now I get this layer of soot on the wax 1/2 way down. When I started this thread it was only the cherry lemonade this round of testing . now it is all of them. I would agree with you but I see them and they are not too big. In fact some look great and others look a bit small . Not in the beginning but mid way down the jar the soot layer forms. The jar itself doesn't look as bad as the top of the wax. I have some CDNs already made and I am starting them today to see if I get the same sootie top. I won't know for days since it isn't in the beginning. So many people use the CDs so I can't imagine why this is happening to me . I will show a photo later of the wick size and the soot so you can see. Thanks for you help
