  1. FIrst of all...let me write here...I believe I am only meant to test! I included the dye (cranberry) chip into the mix (for the tempering) phase and when I remelted the wax, I only had to add the FO. I poured wax into the jars (slipped on their little booties) to help with the slower cool down and I had no wet spots and no frosting. I am on the second burn and nothing has popped up. Maybe including any dye in the tempering phase, helps.
  2. I tried the C-3 with the Soy Additive and the C-3 with CO. Used 1 T additive to 1 lb. wax, and also tried 2 tsps CO with 1 lb.wax - cranberry citrus and Macintosh apple FO's. The results appear to be the same with the hot and cold throw. The CO candles had more bubbles in the melted wax, but I noticed that the flames weren't as "wavy" with the CO as they were with the soy additive. Used CO in a paraffin blend - a little more than 1/2 tsp pp and I noticed a difference in the hot throw (more intense) and less smoking (4630).
  3. Yep! I burn them longer than the standard test time and then I power burn them. That's probably what I'm doing!!! thanks
  4. Sorry...should have been more specific. A printer driver for Vista SHOULD do the trick.
  5. Does anyone lose the hot throw after burning halfway down? Is it candle-nose?
  6. There have always been a lot of problems with Vista. None of my programs worked on Vista - had to redo the operating systems on both of my new office computers back to XP professional, that was a while ago, now they have downloads. Check with manufacturer to see if they have a download so you can make it compatible with your operating system. Also, how large is your ram? Printshop is a relatively inexpensive program. Don't have it, but you can do a lot with it, I'm sure. Photoshop is expensive and you I know you can do everything with that, but it can be very confusing if you haven't been trained with it.
  7. Finally got a response.....maybe they read the forum...
  8. I'm so used to a quick response from every other business, this surprised me. Peaks takes a week to get to me, but they send out a tracking number right away and they certainly answer their phones. Thanks!
  9. Just trying out the C-3 on its own (mixed with some 4627 before) going to add some coconut oil (would like to try USA, but can't get my order from Scentsations for some reason). Going to use the CDN's recommended by Stella1952
  10. Didn't read through all the posts, but.....if you're going, run over to the new casino. Sunday mornings early are always good! No tables there, just slots.
  11. Has anyone had any trouble with their orders with Scentsations? I made a small order last week (early), they acknowleged receipt of it. I emailed them twice and even called and left a message after a few days to see when the item I ordered would be shipped. They haven't got back to me. Are they always this inefficient?
  12. It probably would be a pain if you were doing any kind of a large production, but for a dozen or so, it's not a pain. I just open up the oven door after warming up the jars, slip the sock over (keep the cuff part up or it likes to slip under the jar) and easily transfer them to the counter to pour. You can double it over if you are using a smaller jar. It really helps slow down the cooling process. Especially right now...it's semi warm during the day and then gets pretty chilly at night.
  13. Has anyone tried slipping a tube sock over your candles (with the foot part cut away) when cooling them? It helps slow down the cooling process and as long as you've preheated your jar, it helps with the frosting (if using a soy blend) or with wet spots.
  14. You can go on the PA State Department website. There you can search to see if the name you want to use (other than your own) has been taken. If not, and you want to register it, you can do it online. ALso, you can apply for your sales and use tax online through that site. As far as insurance, I don't know anything about that. If nothing else, also register as an LLC (that used to cost around $100) This protects your individual assets from those for the business. LLC allows you to act as a sole proprietor but you are protected like a corporation. Don't get swindled from websites offering to do everything for you. If you can figure out how to wick a friggin candle, you can figure out the paperwork!!!!!!!
  15. You should be able to adjust the output resolution on your laser printer! That seems a little low! The end result also depends on what kind of finish your labels have, glossy or matte. Anything printed off an ink jet will run if it gets wet, even well after it's printed. Laser printers heat set and it takes quite a bit of abuse to disturb the colors. Buy the LASER!
  16. When you twist the wick, is that while the wax is setting up or before you pour? Thanks...
  17. I just got in my bottle of buttercream from CS as well. I thought maybe it was my allergies or something because the smell was horrible after I made a candle. I asked my son to smell it and sure enough he thought it smelled like vomit...just what I thought it smelled like!
  18. The tense "oh she's doing that again" looks from family members when you are trying to figure things out with wax and wicks only frustrates and confuses you more! I started another business 10 years ago and part-time I make enough to keep 4 adults -2 of which are in college in a pretty decent lifestyle. I got the comment the other day, "All you ever want to do is make candles!" Well, if that's what I like to do even when I DON'T have the spare time, then that's what I'm going to do...make testers!!!! I guess patience is a virtue...
  19. LOL! If I ever get a first candle done, it will have to sell for around $700 for me to break even....
  20. I'm mixing them because I love the throw with the 4627 and the creamier texture of the C-3. The 4627 alone is too gooey and transparent looking. The 4627 alone leaves the slime thing. Need to use up the wax purchased...have to justify the credit card balance for all the candlemaking supplies... Curious to find out. Do any of you have smokers in the house? Does that affect anything with the candles either as they are burning while you are testing (raw materials as well) or in the finished product. I haven't read anything about that yet.
  21. I couldn't get a good hot throw with this combo. Better with the C-3 and 4627. Did you add any additive to the soy or let that be with the 4630 in it? ALso, when you blend these combos, they seem to burn a little different if you let them cure for a couple of days.
  22. With a pint mason jar and 4630 & C-3, I would try the CDN wicks. Start with 12. LX seems to be okay as well.
  23. I have to take an allergy pill before I melt and pour with FO. It's either that or my chest starts to feel heavy, and I have a little trouble breathing
  24. Just curious...what is the price range that you pay for, for a logo.
  25. I can't seem to locate a suppliers that has CDN wicks in stock, particularly the smaller sizes. Any ideas where I can try? Thanks
