  1. I have been using Peak's Birthday Cake for quite a while and not only is it a family favorite in my home but EVERYONE that has gotten it from me just loves it and requests more. I only use it in paraffin for both containers and votives. Either it does not agree with you or it is some kind of chemical reaction with whatever combination of materials your are using or I suppose it might be a bad batch. Have always used 1 oz pp/wax. Dave
  2. I heat slightly the metal base so that once you slide it into the wick pin hole, the base will melt against the bottom of the voitve making a bond to hold it in place. To heat the base I do it over a low flame on my stove and heat for a few seconds, turning it and then slide wick into the votive and press with something hard (pen tip) and watch it melt into the votive. Dave
  3. Which fragrance oil supplier would you consider having the best selection of "aromatherapy" scents for paraffin and air freshener? Thanks, Dave
  4. Tonight while reading some FO descriptions I read this line on a supplier's web page: " All oils are shipped in HDPE plastic, but we always recommended transferring to amber glass to extend shelf life. " Do most of you do this or do you keep them in the bottles you purchase them in. Dave
  5. To date I have only ordered my wicks from one source. My question is.........would a 36-24-24z be the same from any vendor or are there differences from distributor to distributor? Also what are the 3 different #'s in a Zinc wick description? I assume the first is the thickness and the last is the core size, however I am asking because I really don't know. Thanks, Dave
  6. Made my first 2 batches of MP soap today. 2 different molds and colors. Shea Butter base with coloring (mica) FO (Juniper Breeze) They look and smell great! Wrapped them in Saran wrap after popping from the molds. My question is do they ever fully harden of will they always be somewhat soft to the touch. It has been about 5 hours and if I push on the raised designs I can flatten them. Why I don't stick with candles is beyond me. You all start posting pictures of your soaps and then I want to do it all! Someone please stop me. Stop posting pictures of all your successes. You are all so talented. Dave
  7. Ordered the C&S Campfire last night.........I will let everyone know how it works out. Thanks for the suggestions. Dave
  8. Thanks All...And Carrie Very helpful Dave
  9. My son is coming to visit in 2 weeks. Since he knows that I have been making candles he is requesting that I make him some "Campfire" scented candles to take back to FL. I see some Campfire FO from BCS and a few others. I don't have time to test various samples. Has anyone here done paraffin scented candles with a Campfire FO that they would recommend? I will be using it in 4630 container and 4794 votive. Thanks, Dave
  10. Going to try 1 to 2 or 1 to 3 FO to DPG. Actually my original instructions had 50/50 or 1 to 2 FO to DPG. I'm sure it's really dependent on the thickness of the FO. I will keep you all posted. Thanks, Dave
  11. High Oleic Oil Blend "Mission Peak Blend" 10% Extra Virgin Olive 90% No-GMO High Oleic Canola http://missionpeaksoap.com/Base_Oils_Quick.htm
  12. Happened to me also......1 oz. DPG to 1 oz. FO 50/50 Let them soak for 24 hr and dried FOREVER....... They burn 1/4 to halfway and then go out. Smell great with clean smoke but won't burn all the way. Bought Cones, DPG and FO from SOS I also am looking for suggestions. Dave
  13. I have used 1&1 Internet for web hosting for years for non commerce websites. Have had no problems to date. I am now looking for current recommendations for a web hosting company for eCommerce for the sale of candles/ etc. Looking for a one stop with all the bells and whistles that people here have had good results and good customer service. Thanks in advance for your input! Dave
  14. Great looking candle! Makes me want to get some palm and play. However I am in deep enough into this venture to stray off into another "wax" world at this time. Hopefully one day. Dave
  15. Thanks all! I was just curious....if the candle needed to cure prior to lidding the container. Then my thought was how could it cure if the lid was on, since no air would get to the wax. I will go with a couple of days for now. Thanks Again for the responses. Dave
  16. Is there a recommended length of time before you should cover a newly poured candle container. I know you should wait something like a week before you burn, but how long before you should put lid on. I am referring to paraffin wax only. Thanks! Dave
  17. I use lots of paper towels for the same reasons stated. My wife always knows where to go when she needs them. Dave
  18. I absolutely love them! Truly works orf art and you should be very proud of your efforts! Dave
  19. Honestly up until last night, I had only ordered from Peak and have had nothing but the best of product, service, packing and delivery time. If I had not needed some incense stuff I would not have ordered from another company. I'm sure I will use other sources as my needs develop but for now they are awesome! Dave
  20. I have tried about 20 or so different FO's in my Votive testings. I use 1 oz (fo) pp for all my batches. All in IGI 4794, all the same wick, temp, however different color combinations. My question is that 2 or three of these FO's seem to seep or sweat through he wax of the finished votives. This makes them wet on the outside. Is this normal as I have had this wet / oily sensation on some of the YANKMEEs after opening the shrink wrapped votive. Thoughts? Thanks, Dave
  21. Thanks for the wisdom. I really have learned so much from you all. What a great resource. Dave
  22. A few months ago I made one of those Wax Melters using the Presto Kettle Cooker and the spigot setup. Here is my question.........lets say I add 5 lbs of IGI 4794 and one day I only pour 1 lb, let the rest cool and 3 days later melt it again and only pour 2 lbs. What I'm trying to find out is it bad or does it degrade the wax (plain no FO or color) to melt and cool numerous times? It just makes it so much easier to keep it ready to go with wax. Thanks, Dave
