  1. * Pucker Up * Sweet Cheeks * Lemon Kisses ...stepping outside the box which is what i do..
  2. Exactly.....pay now or pay at the end of the year (use tax) i prefer to pay now...
  3. Sorry, I didn't look at the price for a smaller qty, I buy in large qtys and pay much less but I don't buy the 4oz. I buy the 2oz and 8oz
  4. I personally use www.freundcontainer.com I also buy by the carton. If she bought that way i'm sure she could sell what she didn't use. They ship out of Illinois and always fast...
  5. I like the longer box you used on the first one. Try using the same color in the box that you have for your Palm Tree, I like the colors and consistency
  6. I have a medium sized wholesale candle company and have never been asked to have UPC labels. If a company ever inquires tell them you are a small business and ask them if they UPC labels. I know a small business that one of her large accounts supplies her with the UPC labels and she CHARGES them .10 extra per item to put them on......go figure. Don't automatically count yourself out because you don't have them, besides if you land an account that is large enough to require them then you will be making enough to purchase them...
  7. Ditto what FOH said, most of my suppliers prices vary with the costs and availability of raw materials so across the board price increases are a rarity.
  8. Well keep in mind there are two different types of flat rate boxes...
  9. I ship both UPS and USPS but do not have the flat rate box to check on my website. However, if the customer checks USPS and the flat rate is cheaper than Priority then I ship out flat rate and reimburse the customer the difference. Flat rate boxes will only hold so many bottles of f/o no matter what the weight regulations are.
  10. If you buy those paper towels in Delaware and CLAIM them as a business expense then yup they want their .10 if you didn't pay a sales tax on it when you bought it. Oklahoma has the same use tax law. Just remember its on items that you purchase out of state and use for your business, not items that you are reselling. I buy very few items online (out of state) that I are for use in my business, most of that I buy local.
  11. the type of insurance its called is Product Liability
  12. Well i may not have a million bucks but I do have a house, cars and such and I'd prefer to keep them. But I sell wholesale and many retailers wil ask about product liability. For me its cheap, 2 mil policy for under $400 year. And before you ask, Ohio Casulty - call an independent rep. They underwrite in 39 states.
  13. I vaguely remember this company but I thought they were in Joplin, MO. If its the same one they've been around for awhile but I never ordered any of the oils so couldn't help you there, I can only vouch for their longevity.
  14. Just google UPC Codes and do some research but before you drop the bucks for codes ask the store if they have or use their own UPC codes. Sometimes they will use their own inhouse UPC codes and will give you a code to use.
  15. try and independent insurance agent that handles Ohio Casulty. I have mine thru them
  16. I was thinking the same thing PA was saying. Take it from someone who does nothing but wholesale....people will ask for everything and if they suspect you are "green" they will push even harder. I learned these lessons the hard way early in my biz. I don't have wholesale contracts. no need if they are buying. I have had a couple of companies wanting to private label which I said ok but....I will not private label using my candle names (my names are unique to my company theme) but since I print my own labels (as grama stated) offer them their own candle names if its convenient for you to do this. DO NOT compromise your price, if you start that now you will be sorry down the road, we are all in the business of making money. I realize you are anxious to get your candles in a store but trust me when I tell you if all you are doing is compromising you will win nothing here. I have a brochure with my wholesale prices listed. People will ask me all the time, if I order more can i have a discount, my reply is "my prices are already their rock bottom lowest" and leave it at that...don't keep saying things cause it only causes you to stammer and backpeddle. Here's an example of something that happened to me this past August, a huge account contacted me about my candles, because they were big I sent them a few sample candles (which by the way I rarely do). They had a meeting, liked them but wanted to know if I would private label using their label, my candle names...wow did this put me in a precarious position. After much thought I called the buyer and said I would "consider" this with a contract that stated if they decided to purchase their candles elsewhere they could not use my names (now mind you I stated earlier that I didn't use contracts but these guys were big and I soooo wanted their account). I also told them I would prefer to use my own label. Well months went by and I wrote it off and figured they just decided against buying from me. Well (i know long story) in November they called and were ready to order....the account is the Grand Ole Opry.....i was flying...! They are not my biggest account but wow does it feel good puttin' that on my website for retail locations....seek a compromise with the name thing, maybe she will be happy since no one will be able to buy them elsewhere or even on your website....good luck
  17. Jennifer, collecting for each county used to be the case however this past year it was changed to point of transaction. I would say that the point of transaction takes place where you live because you are not delivering the goods to them but rather shipping. The Oklahoma Tax Commission has an information line set up for these questions and I think they would be better able to give you a definitive answer rather than the small business office, they are online as well. Bunny's response was correct.
  18. humm...don't know if this will help you or not but 3 or 4 years ago I bought a water jacket melter (#150) from Candlewic and its been great. I use distilled water to keep the minerals from building up on the element and have yet to change it out. Just something to think about if your still searching...
  19. Me too, when I give them a tally sheet i put on there how much they are to pay me for each candle and they keep their portion.
  20. I recently had this issue come up in my wholesale candle biz. It was of all people, the Grand Ole Opry asking me about it. Since my candle line is specialized in a western theme I was reluctant but I told them I would give it some thought. That was back in August and I never heard back from them so I figured it was a no go....until....a few weeks ago. They wanted to carry my candle line and agreed to maintain my labels. Wow i was shocked. I hadn't really told them no but that I preferred to keep my label but I was open to discussion. They started out with a relatively small order compared to my other accounts but I understand. I've learned in this business what works for some stores may not work for others. Just my two cents..
  21. Actually right after the holidays I will have another big rush. Retailers will be restocking. I set up at Trade Shows to obtain wholesale accounts. Those people are there to buy. January starts the new year for Trade Shows and is usually one of the bigger ones to attend. This year retail is up so that means more retailers will be at trade shows/market ready to buy.
  22. kinda off the subject here but Grumpy Girl i love your location......i needed a good laugh today....
  23. oh good grief, no need to be sorry, just read..learn and enjoy. Nobody is trying to attack you personally, this is just a forum for others to vent their experiences as well. This is just some info for you when your do open your own store and to be careful of the pitfalls so that you will be successful. Your success trickles down to my business as well. If retailers ain't selling then neither am i, so go get em' girl..with eyes wide open..
