  1. We do a foaming sugar scrub but I've heard good things about apricot. Are you making it from scratch, or are you going to use a base?
  2. I can't remember the site (it's a soapers site maybe) that it will check flash point for you. When I put dpg in the calculator, it LOWERS the flashpoint on oils. Olive oil may be more expensive, but it's safer! As to adding water to the bowl, we tried that once. Water evaporates, leaving the oil behind..kind of. It leaves behind a sizzling, smoking MESS. We sell the oils in 1 oz bottles, 25% olive oil, 75% fo. Just my 2 cents. I've heard that dpg produces a 'cleaner burn', whatever that means...it's just oil, no wick involved...but that it also changes the scent a bit, especially the longer it burns.
  3. I think most of us here sell candles. As to "pure soy", I have mixed feelings about this wording but to each their own. We use C3 in ours. Glad you found a source for your candles that you're happy with!
  4. We use paypal and have had nothing but good luck with them. We use the option that people don't need to have a paypal account, they can just pay with their cc like they normally would. I have been asked about it, but normally it's because people are now more trusting of paypal than other methods.
  5. Try the oils in it and watch closely. When I tested my oils in a smaller warmer they smoked bad. Once I put them in a larger one, they were fine. I hate those small warmers now, took me forever to figure out that it wasn't something I was or wasn't doing, it was the warmer itself.
  6. All I've ever worked with is soy / C3. I learned how to make candles with it and I never knew there were easier waxes to work with out there. Now the worst part...I can do anything with C3, but give me another wax and I'm LOST! Time and patience (and alot of money!), maybe a good luck dance or chant and you'll be golden! LOL Seriously, if you're interested in it, DO IT! Half the battle is wanting something bad enough. Good luck!
  7. Sometimes this trick works, and sometimes not. with the vanilla, I add a little splash (maybe a tsp.) and go with it. When it doesn't work, well...there's always B&B to put it in! lol
  8. I bought one from Lonestar and it was awesome. I actually picked the wrong one, but it was great! Has more of a cantelope rather than a cucumber smell to my nose.
  9. JS Dolce & Gabbana type for men sells REALLY well for us and it's one of my favorites. For women, Happy and Delicious Nights by DKNY type sell the best.
  10. We're testing about 12 new fo's this weekend. I always love getting new scents in, but I HATE the testing process.
  11. I wouldn't pigeon hole myself into a certain thing with the name I chose. Just an fyi, tagging yourself 'soy' anything might be a no-no! LOL Other than that, I don't think I'd change anything.
  12. LOL it happens! I'll forget I have the warmer going because *I* can't smell it anymore and then someone will come over and I'll get the same response you did. It takes me a minute to think 'wth is it they're smelling?!' then *LIGHTBULB!* LOL
  13. I could be totally wrong about this, I've never worked with DPG, but from my understanding DPG lowers the flashpoint. May want to research that a bit more. We used tealights with the same results you had, a bit of smoking. There are every size imaginable warmers, once we got a larger one, the smoking stopped. Keep in mind tho, you can't control what your customers are using as warmers. Maybe a larger tart would mean more substance in the bowl and it wouldn't get so hot?
  14. Really neat subject! I'm one of the people that loves a really strong scent, especially in bakery smells. My daughter HATES bakery smells (she's my business partner so this kind of sucks lol) and thinks our candles are too strong. To me, they're just fine! It really does depend on the person I guess. Anything floral to me is overpowering and instant headache, these are always the scents she picks to burn in her room while working on our website. No matter where I am in our house (2500 sq ft) I can smell it..BLECK! To her it's "subtle".
  15. We don't use the mason jars, ours are about 4" in diameter. Tried using a smaller wick but wasn't getting a good burn pool. :undecided
  16. I'm in Vegas, so yep! It's pretty warm here! When we pour real warm, the wicks seem to want to tunnel. Doesn't seem to matter what scent or what size wick, the only difference seems to be the pour temps. Like you, we have almost no humidity and very seldom have cold temps.
  17. In that size jar (ours are about the same width) with C3, we normally use the eco 14 wicks. Not everyone is crazy about them for some reason, but they work well for us!
  18. Pouring at the slushy / malto meal (LOL) stage, about 120-130. I'll try to cut back a bit on it and try it again. I'm not ready to give up on it by any means, just working out the kinks with it. I think it would be absolutely wonderful if it would give us the smooth pretty tops and worth the 3 seconds of work it takes to do them like this! We have turkey roasters, so the wax it kept at about 160 - 180 degrees. I pre-melt the CO before adding it to the wax, it doesn't go into the roaster! LOL
  19. I gave it another try last night. The tops are smooth-ish. It makes the tops of our candles look almost dried out and "old" for lack of a better word. On the bright side, there aren't any holes in the tops either! I used 1 tsp per # of C3. So far, it's not playing nice with C3.
  20. I was only stating what my experience was and then what i'd heard after that. Do you use C3 as well? Do you add things to the wax to get it to bind? I'd love to know how you do it because like I said, we tried and could never achieve the scent throw without using synthetic oils.
  21. We tried to use essential oils and with no success. The way it was explained to me was essential oils are very heavy and will sink to the bottom of the wax. I've heard that a person can use an additive that will make it adhear to the wax better, but its still not the same as a synthetic fo. Someone mentioned stearic acid to me (never tried this) and someone else mentioned vybar (didn't try this either because I didn't want extra things in our candles). I agree that there is no such thing as a "pure" soy candle once you add an fo. Many companies make many claims, take them for what they're worth. Good luck with getting them to give off a great hot throw with essential oils! It's something I totally gave up on!
  22. I had to ask! Like I said I was in major production mode, going between lotion and soap and I grabbed the wrong bottle and *SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE!* Once I heard it in the bottle sloshing around so freely my face fell, eyes grew wide..*facepalms* It happens! LOL Glad yours are clearing up for you at any rate!
  23. I'm going to try it again and see how it works now that it's not 120 degrees outside. We used a tsp of co to 1# of C3. We don't add colors to our candles at all. I like the clean look of C3, we rarely get frosting (when we do it was my mistake, not the waxes lol) so what I was hoping to achieve was better hot throw for some of our weaker scents. What it looked like to me was a 50/50 blend. A look I'm not real fond of. Almost a translucent look to it. Like I said, I'll try it again now that it's not so horribly hot here and see how it works for us this time. edited to add: I was really excited about the smooth tops, that was what originally set me on the path of CO, no more re-pours.
  24. what about coating the inside with a clear krylon spray paint? You would have to let it totally dry before you filled the tin and even then I'm not sure about the flamability (is that a word? LOL) of it once it is dry. There should be some kind of sealer that you could put in the tins tho. Please keep in mind I only use glass containers, so I could be way off base here. I have been once or twice! LOL
  25. Unless she was putting it in a foamer. I think those you add water to. Not sure tho, we don't sell foamers.
