  1. i am not an expert, but i kinda prefer hp, takes longer but when using a good stick blender it can really make the hp alot smoother than hand mix. I do hp in a crockpot. and i kinda prefer 3 pound batches for me. cuz i can handle that weight when pouring into molds.
  2. ok great thanx. i am still trying to figure out the nuances of soap making!
  3. thanx...i am hoping curing will work. the soap in my log mold is still a little warm, so it won't be ready to cut until tomorrow. first time i am using my mold full. ok so say, i want to make a face bar with these ingredients, can i use 20% OO and then use the other 5 for avocado oil after trace?
  4. oops, sorry meant to add that....4 pounds
  5. well i did my hp soap with the following ing: saponated Oils OO 25% CO 25% Lard 45% Castor Oil 5% additives sweet almond oil 3 oz aloe vera 1/2 c 1.4 EO (bergamot, lavender, lime) lye was 5% and did the calc on soapcalc 9 wp it went into the molds really nice and is fairly creamy looking not grainy. now, superfatting with sweet almond oil, will that mess up the lather and bubbles? cuz the flat mold for left over soap was ready to cut already and i used a small piece to to see how it feels and it didn't really lather, it bubbled slightly. is it too soon to check?
  6. omg!!! i hope you are alright. if you have a sams club card they have a really nice set of ceramic or stone where bowl set for 15 ot 16 bucks that I bought specifically for soaping and its a great set and the biggest bowl could probably safely hold 3-4 pounds of soap. its almost as big as my ancient crock pot that i use for soaping (its 25 years old and big, brown and round) just another hint for some who may not know. never ever mix ammonia and bleach. you will shorten you life drastically probably a good 10 years or more
  7. my very first batch was .5 oz lime and .25 oz patch and i just love it. and since i am giving this batch away, i will probably do lavender (hate lavender) and bergamot with a bit of lime, just so i have enough to cover 4 pounds. rosewood actually smells like its name. was supposed to make my soap today but ended up spending most of the day with a friend whose horse colic and had to give it a couple of shots and then spend about the last 2 hours i was there giving it enemas, by the gallons it was so nice to come home to my patch/lime soap. sigh.
  8. well if one is to experiment, who best to experiment on but family and friends LOL
  9. OO 25% Lard 45% CO 25% castor oil 5% 1.5 ounce of EOs sweet almond oil 3 oz 1/2 cup of aloe vera gel this is the recipe i am doing but there is one hitch. i am not sure what blend of EOs to use for a good smell. the oils i have are: lavender bulgarian patchouli (i love patchouli) lime tangerine bergamot rosewood I have been trying to use the eo calc at rainbow, but i can only take one or two whiffs of blends (place whole bottles in a bowl with a lid and then let them sit for a few minutes and whiff) and then i get a headache. lol what i would like is an earthy yule type fragrance, but not able to buy what i need locally sigh. does Micheals carry essential oils???? I wanted to make the soap tomorrow so i have time to cut and make boxes for them. any ideas welcomed
  10. ah...so let it cook a bit before i add fragrance, how about my bit of oil and aloe vera?
  11. ok, i am gonna use this recipe with two table spoons of aloe vera gel and not sure what the eo is gonna be yet. i was thinking myrrh francense and patchouli and maybe some sandlewood. but I want to add another oil to superfat a bit. so with the above measurements to make a 3 pounds of soap. should i use like say 5% almond oil or whichever one i choose?
  12. ok do you mean, say, i need 1 1/4 cup of water for the lye solution, but hold out say 1/4 cup to mix in later?
  13. thanx yinz guys. but i do have a question, i use EO instead of FO and it seems to me it would be really hard to add the eo after complete cook...cuz my last two hps (i've only done two) where really thick when it got to the mash potatoe stage. i added my fragrance right after trace. is it still ok to do that? when you read up on it alot, it seems everyone has a little bit different way to do it....
  14. i know alot of ppl prefer cp cuz hp isn't as creamy, but actually, I want to make a hp recipe to give to family and friends for a gift and I actually want it to not be real creamy but kinda old fashiony. so i am looking for a good recipe. since i am new to this, thought i would ask for some favorite recipes used for hp thanx!
  15. this really isn't a business site, its just a personal web page.
  16. those are ounce measurements not percentage
  17. the original recipe called for 9 ounces of shea butter. and i only had 5 here was the original 10.5 of CO and OO 9 of shea ok, i have store brand crisco cuz it had less ingredients, canola, safflower, grapeseed, hazelnut sweet almond (these are food grade) and then i have avovado, glycerin and castor. sheese its a freaking blizzard outside
  18. i only have 5 ounces of shea butter. and i was gonna put it in a 1.8 batch of soap. is this enough to make a difference. the original recipe had called for 9 ounces and 10.5 of coconut oil (which i think is a bit much cleansing) so here is what i came up with: shea butter 17.5 % OO 32.5 Lard 30 coconut 20 this is for a test cp batch and lard was not in the original ingrediants what do yinz all think?
  19. thanx! didn't catch that one....was working on my errors. guess there is a reason one does not stay up till 3 am working on web pages. LOL
  20. thanx appreciate it...i was messing with it in the middle of the night and i know i changed some colors i shouldn't....so i grately appreciate, i got into html quite a few years before css came about!
