  1. great advice thanx!!!!! patience isn't always one of my virtures
  2. hey fire. I find at least with a small batch the plastic covered stick works better than the bare stick with out blades. but so far its been nice!
  3. i guess its like getting air in anything else, it may leave small hollow spaces in your soap. but i could be wrong, this may go away after it starts to cure, i just remember reading somewhere to avoid making airbubbles
  4. it did finally sorta harden, but i remelted it and put some additives in and it harded fairly fast this time, and i just got done cutting it and i will put it away for my use cuz it was only one pound batch. this time, instead lining the mold (plastic) i sprayed it with olive oil and it came right out, no problem. that was probably the wrong thing to do, but it worked great. my new wood mold will be lined tho. ;-)
  5. ok....was wondering if it might cause the cp to not firm up. hopefully it will keep curing.
  6. ok, just realized that i used tap water instead of distilled water, what kind of problem will that cause? the soap is now starting to harden. sigh but on a good note, just got my log mold and cutting set from frumpyjazz or who ever. really nice set. thought s&h was a bit much, but it was worth, they did a great job of packing it to come through the usps
  7. its called a whisk and it will really put the air in there. and boy you got the right about the soap....makes ya feel your iq dropped a few points:D
  8. i used the one with the plastic case and it introduced alot of air. will the try the bare one next. and you are right about cleaning...yuck
  9. well it turns out mines a bust, i thought it was hardening but never got past the cream stage...sigh. gonna read up on remilling/rebatching and see if i can do something about it.
  10. well, now ya know about sorbitol, our chemical friend. as for m cp, it was a bust. felt so nice under the wax paper last night, but i took it off and it was mush and still mush this morning actually, its more like night cream. oh well will read up on remilling. my hp did fine. maybe remill them together and see what happens:drool:
  11. yeah, i don't want to forsake hp altogether, especially if any of my upcoming experiments to make a sorta m&p don't work out. i think the sorbital is a key ingredient in m&p because of its emulsifying effects. its used in diabetic candy, antifreeze, cool whip and as a way to clean out overdoses or posionings in the er or icu. throwing up sorbital and charcoal, what a treat that was to clean up. sorbital is also a laxitive cuz it makes things go slippy slidy right out. but i have no plan to use sorbital
  12. oh definitly, hp has it place, i love my very first batch not that i made any other than the two test batches tonight. but i was just so shocked at the difference and it took alot less time to make the cp and it pours so much nicer. i do hate waiting tho. thats the bed part.
  13. even tho the two batches haven't even cooled yet...the preliminary verdict is...CP is WAY AHEAD of HP. but i must say tho in defence of this hp batch, it didn't do as well as my first batch, i may have forgot to do something. but still, cp really beats it IMHO
  14. just looked at it again, i have a stick with out plastic and the tip is plastic and then I have one covered with plastic and the tip is a metal blade.
  15. thanx carebear, thats helpful. i knew it as an immersion blender, not a stick blender. LOL
  16. thanx, my blender comes like that, and with a stick without the plastic cover. that helps. i think this is the one i have, the plastic case comes off http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-Turbo-Twister-2-Speed-Blender/dp/B00008IH9S
  17. i was reading up on cp soap making from kathy millers site and i got to the point about using the stick and i am a bit confused about it. is she using just the bare blending stick or the one that is covered in plastic. i have both parts as well as the whisk
  18. ithink its 145 to 160. if its in this range, it has a better chance of becoming soap
  19. i was wondering what ppls favorite spices for coloring are and about what color they produce. even tho i am very visual, i want my soaps to maintain an "organic" color as opposed to say, cobalt blue i would appreciate your input and pix if you have them thanx
  20. thanx for posting the url. i am gonna have to make a slab when i decide i am ready for fancier soap.
  21. thank grammy, i will try. i think i would enjoy being able to take a m&p and experiment on it as well. i have a tendency to make the softer soap anyway, that is what turned me on to homemade soap, the one i really liked was soft and creamy. unlike me, ruff and dry...LOL oops. i mean grandma. i am the mean grammy. unlike the other grandma they have. LOL
  22. well if one is allergic to sorbital it can and probably is a problem. i wouldn't want it in my soap, just incase. just a small bit of real strawberry ingested by me can put me in the hospital. i never eat anything that is red or pink unless i know there are no real strawberry ingredients. i think alot of ppl missed what i was asking. i realize now i can't make m&p. and the reason i don't want to buy it is because i want the satisfaction that I made it myself. its all just as simple as that.
  23. oh bummer. did it make good bubble bath???
  24. i suppose i will check just to get a general idea starting out and the length of time i have to add the lye. cuz after that it shouldn't vary much.
