  1. Thanks to all who voted and answered what jars you use. I am not trying to get an exact price for any specific jar. This poll was intended to show how much people are willing to spend on a jar, and the comments tell us what styles of jars are popular. Right now I used jelly jars, which I buy locally, and get them for $ .53 each for the 8 oz and $ .71 each for the 12 and 16 oz. Pam
  2. Just wondering what others are paying for their jars, including shipping. If you answer, please let everyone know what jar you use (style and size) and where you purchased it. Ive seen a lot of questions about jars lately and have some of my own, so I thought this may be helpful for many....including myself. Thanks in advance to those who answer the poll. 3. Hi and thanks for the help. I will do some mad scientist work and see what I come up with and will let you know if I come up with anything. Pam in Upper Michigan
  4. Thimbleberries are somewhat like raspberries but definately are different......if that makes any sense...lol. Thimbleberries are drier and have a different flavor, but they do resemble eachother somewhat. Sorry, its hard to explain. Anyone else who has had thimbleberries please help me out here describiing them. Pam in Upper Michigan
  5. I have been asked to make some candles for a gift shop in a nearby tourist area. They asked that the scents have something to do with the area: Lake Fanny Hooe, Fort Wilkins, and others. My main problem is that they really want candles that smell like thimbleberries and I cannot find anywhere with Thimbleberry fo. For those of you who dont know what a thimbleberry is, Ive attached a pic. If someone knows who carries a thimbleberry scent or how to mix one, please let me know. Thanks a bunch ~ Pam in Upper Michigan
  6. I have had the one from mill creek as well as the one from alabaster. I think the one from alabaster smells like B&BWs, but is very weak smelling in wax (igi4794)...even at 1.5 oz/lb. Maybe I will try tristates next. Pam in Upper Michigan
  7. I charge $2.50 each or 3/$6.00. I mostly get people purchasing the 3 fer. HTH ~ Pam
  8. That is exactly what my fundraiser contract says............3 days from end of fundraiser for all orders and money.........candles done within 3 weeks. Just a bit anxious to get going Pam
  9. I was just wondering how long others give the advisor of the fundraising group between the end of the fundraiser and when the money is due. I had a fundraiser end today and have to wait to get the money until Monday.........ughhhhhhh I wanna get going but need the money to order the supplies. I was really hoping that they would have everything ready today because I wanted to order my supplies today, start pouring Monday or Tuesday and get the completed candles back to the kids before they go on spring Break at the end of the month.........We shall see. Thanks for all the help and for letting me fume a bit. Pam in Upper Michigan
  10. Blueberry Muffins, Strawberry Jam, Angel Wings, Vanilla Bean, etc., etc., etc.! BCN is my main supplier for FOs...........love them!! Besides, they are only a few hours away and deliver in 1 day! Pam in Upper Michigan
  11. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get dye stains out of linoleium? I dripped some red dyed wax onto the kitchen floor (which is a very light beige) and now the floor has red polka dots!!!!!!! Any suggestions (other than replacing the flooring ) are greatly appreciated! Pam in Upper Michigan
  12. 8 oz. jelly jars - $2.72 (buying glassware locally) This seem high to me, but shipping may be a big factor or where your supplies come from. Here is my breakdown for the 8 oz. jelly jar: Jar = $ .53 (local purchase) Wax = 7 oz @ $1.23/lb = $ .54 Dye = approx $ .10 Scent = 1/2 oz @ $1.25/oz = $ .63 Wick = $ .07 Label = $ .13 Total = $2.00 I thought that was a high estimate because I figure the scent for an 8 oz. bottle but buy mostly 16 oz. bottles. HTH ~ Pam
  13. I dont know if I can help or not, but I will try by giving a few suggestions. Try being totally different.....if everyone uses "basic" containers try using non-traditional ones. Try having different lines of products for different events, etc. (I saw the sexy line of candles in the gallery, so not my original idea) Use scents that arent aways available.......different/odd. Make sure when you do a fundraiser to put a flyer in the bags giving your information so they can reorder. I am also putting a 10% off next order coupon on the flyer I am doing for a 5th grade class in the area, hoping that will help. I am out of ideas, but I hope one of them will help you. Dont give up!! 14. Believe it or not, hairspray take permanent marker off of nearly everything. My daughter (10 yrs old) is very artistic and love to color on balloons, etc with sharpie markers; thus getting a ton of it on her hands and arms. My mom told me to spray hairspray on her hand and it will come off.....Lo and behold.......GONE!! I also use hairspray to take the marker off of items from the local thrift store. HTH somebody, I know it helps me. Pam in Upper Michigan
  15. I would never give people credit. I have only given three people credit (allowing them to have the candles before paying) and two of them have dissed me. One still owes me money from July, but its not worth the $20 she owes me to take her to court, and the other has owed me $40 for a month. Now when someone asks if they can pay later I tell them "Sure, I will deliver the candles then". Some times they look at me like "Darn, I really want them now" so I give them my "Darn, I really wanted the money now" look. HTH ~ Pam in da UP
  16. Sorry I cant help you, just wanted to let you know that I had the same problem. Emals isnt set up to be very user friendly, is it? I finally just decided to give up. I know that isnt a very good attitude, but I have other things that I can be doing better with my time than going insane................ :p Dont be a quitter like me, it just wasnt a high priority for me at the time. Im sure someone who knows where to put the HTML will chime in here. Good luck, and if I hear or read anything that may help you I will be sure to let you know! Pam in da UP
  17. I LOVE IT!! I dont know what the laws are in your state, but I have to not only my company name, but a state and telephone number on my labels along with the net weight. The label is adorable.......just wanted to make sure you have all the info on it that must be. Pam in da UP
  18. Dont mean to be a post crasher here, but I had to ....... I have had my puter crash twice on me at work in the last 6 months which really sucks cuz mine is the only one with the program database of 750+ participants info on it. My newest thing at work is a portable external hard drive that automatically saves every night.....instant backup without disks or zip drives. And it was very economical for what it does, about $160. Just had to let you know about my find.......BTW, got ours at work at Office Max. Pam in da UP
  19. Well, I got the large goudges out with the SOS pad and poured some wax, let it set and unmolded it...not bad, definately better than it was. I think dustpuuppy is right with the next smaller steel wool. I kind of think of it like sanding a wood floor, start with the larger grain to get down to the wood then use the smaller grain to buff out the scratches from the larger grain. Thanks all who gave infor or support. Now you know that a mold can be repaired, even if not to 100%, but back to a usable state....if nothing else, it will be a mold for only rustic pillars....hahaha:cheesy2: Pam from da UP
  20. I used one of those steel wool pads for cleaning dishes (like SOS). I rinsed all the blue stuff out and tried on the deepest part of the scratch first. I figured, what the heck, its ruined if I try it or not, so I tried it. It seemed to make the scratches more shallow.. I am pouring some wax in it right now to see if it was enough. If not, I will rub it again....I'll let you know the outcome either way... Again, thanks for your responses. Pam in da UP
  21. I was stupid and tried to use a knife to get a pillar out of the mold........yeah I know, duhhhhhhhh..... Anyway, does anyone know how to get rid of the scratches? Can I use steel wool or something to "buff" them out? TIA ~ Pam in da UP
  22. I really thought that was the way it would work, but wanted to make sure. I really appreciate the feedback. Pam in Upper Michigan
  23. Thanks sudsnwicks for your response. I could really use more input on this..........If you agree with sudsnwicks please let me know. I dont want to do this wrong. Thanks again ~ Pam in Upper Michigan
  24. Actually two questions..........lol Question #1 - When you discontinue an item that was normally $10 and you reduce it to $7.50 for clearance, do you charge the sales tax on the $10 then subtract the amount off for the clearance; $2.50 in this case? Question #2 - When you give a % discount is the sales tax charged on the original price or discounted price? I know these are similar questions but they are not exactly the same for the reason they are price differences (discontinued item vs. sale) TIA for all who answer!! Pam in Upper Michigan
  25. I saw a mold for these on sale recently on one of the message boards classifieds. It was either here, at candlecauldron.com or at thescentreview.com. I think the person selling them said they cost over $100 new, and was selling them for $35 each. Pam in Upper Michigan
