Usually I make CPOP in the evening and turn the oven off after a few hours and let the soap sit in the cooling oven overnight. I would like to make some soap now/during the day but I will eventually have to cook supper too. After the 2 hours in the oven, is it ok to take the soap out? Would wrapping it in a towel help or does it even need to be kept warm after those 2 hours in the oven?

My mold does have a lid but it lays on top and doesn't fit down inside the mold.. so the lid has bigger dimensions than the inside of the mold.. if that makes sense

I was searching for the lining tutorial and I found it. I remember when this was first posted, both hubby and I tried it and got so frustrated. I'm willing to try it again because lining soap molds is such a pain and it takes forever. I need to make a bunch of soap, so I need to do something here. For example.. on the first step "cut your paper".. how long/wide does the paper need to be? second step.. fold shiny side up? Fold where? (so confused) Step 3: This is where I get lost.. I mean.. the second step has got one side folded and then all the sudden its inside the mold? ?? I hate being a pain but I guess I need remedial soap mold lining :-P

wow, thanks for all the tips :-) I was thinking of "going up" but hadn't thought of a good way to do that. Fidning stuff that is country looking AND portable can be tough sometimes :-) I was thinking of having a cute prim sign made that I can attatch to the canopy frame and let it hang down just a tad. All the prim signs I have seen on the net are all pre-made though. I'll have to keep looking :-)

well there is that one lady that you know, a mia bella soy lady, a man from another town who sells soy, and then there are like partylite, and I know there is one more I am forgetting

I love making soy candles but it's driving me batty that all these "soy candle people" are popping out of the woodwork. Have made like 2 candles and then decide to sell them. In my little town (1500) there are like 4-5 soy candlemakers.. I mean.. that's bad. I have a hard enough time selling in a rural area without all these people trying to do it now too.

aww,.. no biggie. My next show in the 4th of July. I did run across these cute baskets/shelves though. I ordered 2 of them. I figure they would work great for soaps, potpourri, etc etc.. I'm not sure what the deal is.. they never asked for CC info, just said the order was submitted. Maybe they bill you like LTD? Anyone ever done business with this company before?

thanks for the pic! Do you guys know where I can get something like that? Where do you guys get inspiration for booth decor. There are like a 4-5 candlemakers (soy even!) in my small town of 1500 people. I need something to make me look better than the rest

I am getting ready for my 4th of July show. Last year when I was doing shows, I was pout of table space. I have 3 tables and a 10x10 easy up style tent. I don't think I could have added another table even if I had one. I need to display clamshell melts, soaps and votive candles, (plus the 4 displays of regular 8ounce candle jars, but I have that part taken care of) but I need something that won't break the bank and something that either saves space, or gets these things off the table (something freestanding) Any ideas?

I know this is totally irrelevant but isn't "Bella Soy" one of those companies that claim you can make all these big bucks selling candles? Oh wait.. That is Mia Bella. I know I saw a story on our local "about town" show and someone was making candles. Hers were called "Bella Soy" and I got so mad at the TV I was yelling at it. They were making all these false claims. Saying things like "burning soy candles is good for you because soy is all natural" and We use essential oils but then listing one of the scents as cinnamon buns :rolleyes2 Of course, this was around the St Louis area, and not in MD/PA Well, on to the subject at hand. The best way to find shows is to read read read. Be sure to read the local papers and check the bulletin boards of places you frequent (like quick stores and supermarkets). That's a good way to keep on top of things. Also, you can do a Google search for "Craft shows in _____ (whatever area you need)" and see what comes up. You would be surprised sometimes what you can find that way.

Yeah, the only reason I had all this olive was because I bought a bunch from carmen a while back :-) I haven't actually had to buy any at these new prices

Thanks Grannyscandles for the info! I think the crisis has been averted. It finally firmed up enough to unmold and I let it sit the rest of the night. Late last night I could actually cut it. It was still soft. I think it's going to be okay. Right now they just look like normal soap slices, just a bit softer than usual. They are a light yellow color, I have no idea why I thought they would be a translucent like yellow..LOL

yeah, I've never done a discount, I would not know how much to discount.. well,.. too late now anyways..LOL

yes, I used the full water amount. How long does it take to get firm? it's still very gloppy and has a whiteish hard crust on top (could that be ash?)

it should be harder than just goo though after 24 hours right? Well, it hasn't been a full 24 hours yet. I guess I should let it sit and hope the goo firms up? I'm not confident that it will though :-(

My 10 year old sister is selling candles for school. Overpriced ones...! My mom actually sent her out into the neighborhood to sell them yesterday. I have made candles for years and she never went out of her way to sell mine!

Yeah, i went ahead and made a 2lb batch.. 90% Olive and 10% castor. I don't know what happened... the top has a skin and underneath it is all gel/goo? Ugh, i really did not want to waste all that olive oil. I have no idea what went wrong?

hmm,.. I have both castor and coconut. My usual recipe is soy shortenng and coconut, so I have that readily available ;-)

Our town is very small (1500 people). I joined our Chamber in July and the networking is nice. Even though the chamber and the town is small, it only costs me 40 dollars a year and I feel like I am getting myself a bit more "known"

I was going to make some castille soap, inspired by a friend with very sensitive skin. Do i just do 100% olive? I was sure it was 90% Olive and 10% something else but for the life of me, i cannot remember what that 10% was?
