    I finally gave up and ordered 10 pounds from Sarah's.. it actually cost me less to get online even with the shipping,.. than it did at Kroger's

    I bought lye at the local Kroger grocery store and they no longer have it. Neither does our local stores or Wal-mart. It doesnt help that our county is the meth capital of the U.S and the law enforcement is cracking down on the ingredients. :-( I guess i could try that sarah's soap creations. Anyone have a link?

    I dont use saran wrap on my soap,.. it melts in the oven :-( I just use the wooden lid that came with my mold :-)

    thanks :-) i would make some more but i used up all my lye...:-) Guess I am going to have to get this soy shortening an coconut in bulk!

    getting better :-) recipe for both of these was 75% soybean shortening and 25% coconut. Yellow one is scented Honey Gardenia and the Red swirly one is scented NG Country Christmas :-)

    yeah, they are very light.. carmen said that it probably took too long to trace because maybe my oils were too hot? I guess I'll just try again tonight with another scent and color combo :-) *goes to take pictures of the soap*

    well,. i went ahead and made soap with it. I thought I added enough color but you cant really tell the swirl from the rest of the soap.. unless it lightens up in the oven?? The stuff took forever to trace and I think it swirled when it was too runny :-( ugh.. Im not doing so well at this soap thing..

    I let my lye sit fot about 3 hours and now there is like a lye crust on it? Now what??

    I'm very new to CP, but it seems to me that FO was the culprit. I found out that just because an FO may say "soap safe" it just means that it wont irritate the skin, it doesnt necessarily mean that it will work on CP soap. Im not sure if you rebatch this soap or not, someone more experienced could tell us that though :-)

    Didnt have any color to use but i was itching to make soap... Carmen helped me (she rocks by the way) We have a recipe using rice bran, coconut, beeswax, castor, shea butter when i added the lye to the oils. it thickened up immediately. I was starting to freak out but i made sure to mix it really well. I added the FO and mixed some more. By the time i got to put it into the mold. i sorta just glopped it in there. It actually did gel (I was so excited) Here it is cut.. nothing fancy like the rest of ya, but it is scented sweet pea (yummy) it is still a bit soft and warm but how do you guys think it turned out?

    Which supplier did you get the Pumpkin cheesecake scent from. Right now I have a really nice pumpkin pie but it is not body safe :-(

    the iodine on that is 86.. i thought it needed to be in the 70's?

    Can I use crisco? I think I read that somewhere... no matter what i run through that soap thing, it always has high iodine... im about to say forget the whole thing.... Just seems like no matter what I try it isnt right?

    It is pretty soft,.. maybe i should add crisco to it next time? I was thinking of trying another batch tonight so, in the meantime, should I just chop this one up and remold it? or just cut it and use it anyways? I didnt realize that an Fo could cause it not to gel completely... this was supposed to be soap safe

    hmm,.. the scent can do that? Wow.. I have some stormwatch, White tea and ginger, sweet pea from the peak's co-op.. I will have to look and see if any of those are soap safe

    hm,,,,.. ok.. I'm going to put off making any more soap until someone that might know what I did wrong comes in here can i salvage that soap,.. can I use it for anything?

    Cphp? What's that?...lol Recipe: castor:10% coconut (76deg solid) 20% grapeseed: 15 olive: 35 sunflower: 10% soybean:10 the second picture is a view from the top.. as it would sit in the mold (hubby poked a hole in it,.. :-( but you get the idea)
