  1. Luci: Thanks for the comments. I'm sort of torn on that subject. I agree, most times I like to see a price as well but from a web-maintenance perspective, I haven't figured out how to have the database price entries show up in all the various places that it could possibly be used. The shopping page is currently the only place that a price is shown because if I change a price in the database it would automatically show up in the shopping cart. If I manually type the price in other locations, there's the fear of those entries being out-of-sync with the database. Long way of saying I'm not sure what to do about it Ronnie
  2. Thanks for taking a look for me I'm not sure what's happening with the pictures taking time to load - I tried to make them nice and small so they wouldn't take too long. I'll look into it and see what I can figure out Ronnie
  3. Hi all! I'm busily adding to my website and I thought I'd ask for some feedback. If any of you would be so kind as to go to my site and check out the following sections: Our Products -> Fragrances Our Products -> Seasonal Specials Our Products -> Accessories FAQ I've got to get some new photography done to replace the banner picture at the top of my pages - the summer picture is still up there but I'll get that taken care of and replaced with something seasonally appropriate Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide! Regards, Ronnie Colvin Madison CandleWorks - "Fragrance Illuminated" http://www.madisoncandleworks.com
  4. At a 4" diameter apothecary jar and using the GW464 wax, it would be LX20-24, depending on the FO. Ronnie
  5. Yea, there are all sorts of factors that play into it ... sadly :/ Is your 7-8 hours per ounce with a double-wicked candle? Ronnie
  6. In a double-wicked soy candle, what are your experiences with burn time in a 16oz candle? That would actually be 16oz of wax btw, not 14.5 like Yankee I know double wicks will burn it faster than single, I just don't know any comparative numbers to know if mine are being consumed too fast or if they're about average for a double-wick setup. Any input appreciated Ronnie
  7. Here you go: Type of Soy or Soy Blend you use? GB464 Additives if any? Coconut Oil and UV protector Preferred dyes? Color Crystals from Makes Scents Preferred wick (Not sizes)? LX Pouring temp you recommend? 155-160 What you do to prevent frosting? Stir constantly right up till time to pour; Adding Coconut Oil What you do to prevent rough tops? Nothing - sometimes it happens, most times it doesn't Do you do anything to prevent wet spots? Pour hotter than manufacturer recommended
  8. I offer my candles either way. The default is no color but in the ordering process they can choose a color if they wish. Honestly I think most soy candlemakers that don't use color did it because of the frosting issue - it shows up worse in colored candles. So to keep from having to explain to customers, and possibly losing a sale, that the frosting is perfectly natural, etc, etc, they just stopped coloring them. That's my $0.02 anyway ;-) Ronnie
  9. You would have to define "affordable" first, as well as some features: do you need it to print in color for example, and does it need to do other things like scan, fax, etc Ronnie
  10. I've got orders for Christmas Cookies, Monkey Farts, Pumpkin Spice, and Candy Corn to do today. Then lots of labeling, photographing, banner making, website work ... ugh .. now I'm all depressed Ronnie
  11. Opting for a skin-safe FO for sure ... I just don't want to advertise it as skin-safe/body spray and then have to get into labeling with ingredients, etc, etc. The intent for the product would be linen/air freshener but incidental contact shouldn't be harmful, I agree. Ronnie
  12. They don't get much smoother than that Congrats! Ronnie
  13. Wal-Mart sells a lightbox? Hmmm, I may have to check that out before I go to the trouble of making my own.. Mind if I ask what you paid for it and what section of Wally World you found it in? Ronnie
  14. Oh good for you! Well, assuming you want to move that is Chattanooga is a nice town, so hopefully you'll like it there. And you can always come down to Huntsville to go shopping and we can swap candle stories Ronnie
  15. Why? Several vendors (Candlewic included) will send you sample packs of various wicks just for the purpose of testing Ronnie
  16. Jami: Pardon my ignorance but who is "JS"? Edit: Nvm, I just figured it out ... duh, I can be so dense sometimes I would plan on using an aluminum bottle as well, so the cloudy part doesn't really bother me. Thanx again for all the info folks! Ronnie
  17. Well, if I decided to make them, I'll be specifically saying its a linen/room spray and not intended for use on skin. I just really do not want to get into skin-safe products right now Thanx for all the input everybody! Ronnie
  18. I use the GB464 exclusively but I wick them with LX wicks. I've been very happy with their performance in this wax and the oils from Alabaster. Depending on the FO you use and characteristics, an LX22 or LX24 works well in a 3" diameter jar. Ronnie
  19. Very very interesting. I take it you've used this stuff so perhaps I can ask a further question: you would take X amount of that base product, add say 6% by weight of your regular FO that I use for my candles, and you're ready to rock and roll? Seems WAY too easy compared to a google-billion hours I've spent testing my candles Ronnie
  20. For those of you who make these kinds of things, I have a question: In looking at bases for these type things, I was looking at WSP's site. They have a base for Linen Spray that is $52/gallon and you can add FO at 15-20% concentration. They have a Luxury Body Mist base that is $17/gallon but they recommend a concentration of 0.5-1% FO. Here's a link to the Body Mist base: http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=3244 Is there any reason not to use the Body Mist base, up the FO concentration and call it a Linen Spray? Of course at that FO concentration you wouldn't sell it as a body mist anymore, my question is really a desire to use the less expensive base product for a Linen Spray Ronnie
  21. I switched from liquid dyes to the Color Crystals from Makes Scents (www.makesscentscandles.com). You have to be careful that they're fully melted before you pour your candles, otherwise you get colored bits at the bottoms Otherwise, I like them more than liquids since I never make a mess with them and I feel like I can more precisely control the amount of color because I can use these teeny-tiny measuring spoons to put it in the wax. Ronnie
  22. Have you located a source for those boxes?? If so, I'd love to talk to you about that Ronnie
  23. I use a digital candy thermometer with an 8" probe and it works great. Got it from Amazon for about $20 but worth it for me. Ronnie
  24. Bed, Bath, and Beyond has one that I use, works great. It's made by Salton, has a nice metal, replaceable (washable) surface. Ronnie
  25. I know that Golden Foods has a wax that is blended with cottonseed oil - GW435 I believe. I have not personally tried it but it has to be good for something or Jason wouldn't put it out there as one of their primary products Ronnie
