  1. I've heard of q-tips dipped in fo or a few drops on felt-fabric for a quick whiff.
  2. I am going nuts trying to make decent bath bombs. Has anyone tried using a hamburger patty press to make bath bomb pills? So far, my bombs are crumbling even though I am trying to press them really hard into the mold.
  3. I don't know if this will help, but when I overcooked my cphp soap, the soap was tacky enough to roll into balls. The soap had to be patted into the mold instead of poured. You might have better luck if this is in the soap area. There are alot of helpful people.
  4. They look good. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that they dry well.
  5. Congratulations on taking the plunge into soapmaking. I have only done two batches (cp and cphp), so I'm not an expert. My scale weighs in grams, so I used grams instead of ozs to make for a more accurate weights. My batches were 500g each. I wasn't sure what I would do if my first batches were 2 lbs each - my family is afraid of my stuff because of the lye. I tested a small bar of each soap, and it's actually soap. I didn't use fo. I'm not sure how the soap should act yet. For example, the mashed potatoe phase was a mystery to me on cphp and the soap ended up being overcooked. I want my next batch to be hp, but the only cookware I have is teflon or aluminum.
  6. I've never done this myself, but I heard that if you soak fresh herbs for several weeks in olive oil, the oil will become scented. I go with eo myself, it's quicker. I've used rosemary and sage dried herbs. To make the powder real fine, use something like a coffee grinder. I put the herbs in a few minutes before pouring the soap. They could have been left in longer for stronger coloring. The herbs do make the soap kinda gritty. I like that, but some people may not. The herbs did lightly scent the soap, but I added some eo to increase the fragrance. Also, the soap could be filtered if you wanted a smoother textured soap.
  7. Sounds like you had a different, but good show. Hope you get in the newspaper.
  8. Nice chunks. I didn't realized they have molds for them. It must be fun to play with.
  9. Well, the food dehydrator was a nice theory, but the reality did not measure up. First, the bomb mold had to be short in order to fit the tray. Then, I tried to dry out the bombs at 135 for awhile. Checked up on them a few minutes ago and found almost all the tops were crackled. I need to learn the art of patience when crafting bath bombs. :rolleyes2
  10. Thank you for both of your help. The bombs were soft enough to crush by hand, so I decided to try to blend it with a half batch of unscented bomb mix. I am trying to dry it with the food dehydrator and will check up on it in 2-4 hours. I'll let you know later if the bombs stayed together or if I have a batch of fizzy soak.
  11. Sounds like you put alot of thought into your decision. Candlemaking can be fun, and you'll still be able to enjoy it.
  12. The bombs weighs a little over 30 oz and the fo is 1 oz. So, the fo is 3.33%. Should I mash them up and try again? The one I tried to reshape crumbled, but I could add more oil and water to try to reshape them if needed.
  13. I think I may have added too much fo to my bath bombs. I used kangarooblue's recipe as a start, but I wanted Blue Sky fo kangaroo's recipe: Dry: 2 c baking soda 1 c citric acid 1 c cornstarch Wet: 1/3 c safflower oil 1 1/4 T peppermint e/o 2 T water Instead I used 2 Tablesppons Blue Sky fo I can smell the bombs drying thru the house, so now I'm wondering if I read the recipe wrong Should I have read the eo to be teaspoons instead of tablespoons? Another bath bomb question: Is it okay to use a food dehydrator (the thing used to make fruit rolls) to dry the bath bombs? I am thinking about drying them for 4 hrs at 135 degrees
  14. I'm still quite a newbie in the lip balm arena. So far, my balms have been consistent - grainy all the way or smooth all the way. Still haven't found a recipe that I'm crazy about yet.
  15. Nice-looking. I never would have thought about making lilies from beeswax.
  16. Sparkling Soaks Fizzy Pop Water Toot-less Fizzy Water Powder Yikes, I need more chocolate before I try to get creative.
  17. Small rubbermaid containers? Clamshells for mp soap? I hate to admit this, but I am so clueless on this stuff that maybe I should just keep my mouth shut.
  18. I like the swirl in the black raspberry vanilla.
