    OK, I just looked real quick did I miss where it said that the bid is only a down payment or something It looked to me like the bid what at $3 something and I didn't see a reserve...maybe I just need more coffee.

    I have to vote for the heat/humidity theory. I had several batchs last summer end up with DOS,but have never had a problem soaping in cool/cold weather. I really made me mad cause I lost 4 batchs soap (actually I still use them doesn't seem to be a problem) ya sure can't sell soap with big ugle orange spots

    I've never tried anything to speed up cure time but I would be afraid of the humidity. I learned last summer that soaping here in the humidity isn't good as I had 4 different batches end up with DOS. I have never had a problem with those *$#@* spots in batchs I made during the winter when our air is VERY dry.

    I'm sure someone with more experience will pop in but...I would think since it's stainless you should be OK.

    I had asked about using infused oils in cp soap and if the heat would wreck the properties in the oil but no one could ever tell me for sure. I didn't do it before but maybe I will try to find an herbalist site and ask there.

    The Peak's Spiced Cranberry is one of my favorites, and sells well too in both soap and my soy candles.

    Another vote for BNL from BCN. WVS is my "winter" scent and I have to admit that I buy my lotion from Bath & Body Works. I have not put this FO in wax, but have cpd it.

    Just my 2 cents here, but I would think if you are just getting into soaping and are not even sure you will like it 50 pounds of lye is an awful lot! I know I have purchased lye from BCN in smaller amounts maybe you could check and see if they ship to Canada.

    Katshe, no need to get all up in arms here, you have 3 pages of responses where people are trying to help you. From the info you have given it seemed that you were just getting into candles and soap, not that you had been selling for a while. I do have to agree with some of the others though, it's pretty hard to make any profit for those that are buying in large quantities let alone FO 2ozs at a time. JMHO but 2 ozs of a FO is hardly enough to even do proper testing with.

    JMHO, but if you are paying $6 for 2 oz of FO someone saw you coming from a long way off. Where do you get your FO's from?

    I love the Peak's Grandma's Swinging Eggnog in my 100% soy. I get a great throw both hot and cold.

    I added it at trace, if I remember right it riced then tried to go to a big clump. I guess if I was to try it again I would soap really cool, no water discount and no sb.

    I don't do tarts but do use that FO in soy containers. It's a great thrower and one of my most popular scents.

    Do a search under Casaba mist there are several posts, this is one I did a while ahttp://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48222&highlight=casaba+mistgo I did have some problems with this FO, but it sure smells good. Good Luck

    When I make soap I will leave my soap pot sitting over night, then the next day I scrape the leftovers out and make soap balls out of them. I then just wash my soap pot in warm water. With my lye container I rinse it well first then wash it out with a soapy paper towel. Easy peasy!

    Do you sell the brushes with them? I guess it's not the soap and the mug that gets so spendy but I have not found any nice brushes that don't break the bank!

    For those that make the shaving soaps for sale do they sell well? I have been wanting to make some shaving soap in a enamelware mug and include the brush. I'm just concerned that with the cost of the mugs and the brush that I would have a hard time selling it. TIA

    I went to line my slab mold today and ran out of freezer paper. I have seen where some of you use garbage bags but then had the idea to use a cat pan liner. They are a much better size and shape than a garbage bag, and it worked pretty slick I think. Will have to wait til tomorrow to unmold and know for sure.

    Anyone done either of these in soy? I have soaped both and really like them so don't want to waste any FO if they don't work in soy. TIA

    I have been doing CP for going on two years, so last summer was my first soaping summer. Anyway it seems that almost every batch of soap I did ended up with DOS I had several different FO's so I know that wasn't the problem and batches made with the same oils etc that I made later in the year were fine so the only thing I can think of was the temps and humidity. I'm in a very old farm house so we DON'T have central air, neither do I have a nice cool basement anyone have any suggestions on how I can make soap in the summer without ending up with icky orange spots. TIA

    How many of you use hang tags and how many use labels on your container candles? I have always done hang tags cause I figured that the candle would look better burning without a label stuck to the jar (and since I do soy it would be easy for folks to clean out the jars to use for other things and not have to mess with scraping a label off) To make my hang tags I buy the cheap business card blanks at Walmart and use my Printshop program. Never had a problem with lining things up on the card and I print my burning instructions on one side and my info on the other.

    Ida, I thought about the enamel mugs too but the only ones I have take about 20ozs of wax so I think they would be a tad too big to do soap in!

    I have been wanting to try to make shaving soap, and was wondering if it would work to pour it into jars? I would love to be able to do it in tins and since I don't have a mold for that (and I know I can't pour directly into a tin) I thought maybe into a jar like the ones I have used for my body butters. Think it would work? TIA
