  1. I wanted to try a photo embed in a huricane today for my sister. Her baby shower is next weekend and I have the most gorgeous photo of her so I thought it would be really cool to do this and have it out at her shower. I;ve been playing with pillars, but hadn't tried these yet. I used 1260 wax from Peaks 3 tbs stearic poured into pillar mold, placed photo, held to edge and held cool/damp cloth, got the photo to stay in place , Placed in the water bath, removed from bath, poured out wax, and let sit. Sooooo, go to get it out of mold and it is not coming . I put in fridge for a few minutes to see if that would do it and nothing. Searched for threads found a suggestion to blow through the wick hole, so I guess I'll go try that. Any other ideas? (the candle is cool, not warm at all) TIA!
  2. Those are fantastic!! I like them a lot, I'll definitely read up on the class!
  3. Ahhhhh man, burst my shopping bubble! Seriously though, thanks for the tips. I am getting ready to pour one using the wick pin (silly me assumed the wick pin had to sit inside the mold, just now realized it can come up through the bottom as well! DUH) so I'll see if I like that better. I think I will try your knot method too instead of the screws...... THANKS!
  4. I am using the flat braid from Peaks in various sizes - just went to their site and I don't read that the wicks are primed, so I am guessing it is raw. I think I read somewhere in the forum that I can prime the wicks myself by dipping in straight wax? (I am on here researching so much that I think I might imagine things sometimes! lol) Otherwise I may need to get some primed wick! - oh darn another order, probably will have to throw in some more FOs and whatever else I think I can't live without!!
  5. Thanks Stella -I'll have to play with the wick pin some more (especially since I went and bought a heat tool!! ) and see if I can get the hang of it. I'll try it in my heart mold too and see how it goes, wasn't sure if it would pull out funny or if the top would be uneven if it wasn't the same diameter as the mold. I appreciate the help! Jen
  6. OK, so the first few pillars I made I didn't have a problem. I am wicking my mold, using the wick screw, and the mold putty stuff to seal the bottom so that wax doesn't leak out everywhere. But I am noticing that some of the putty sticks to the wick, and since the bottom of the mold is the top of the candle, my wick is just not pretty!! I tried to wrap a little wax paper around the wick and then seal it all up under the putty, but ummmm yeah that didn't work- had a nice puddle of wax though I do have a wick pin, but not sure I like using it and it won't work in my heart pillar mold. So, any better ideas?!
  7. I got this one as a free sample also and it smells good enough to eat. I poured it in 1343 wax for a heart pillar. CT is fantastic and I think that HT is good too - I have so much stuff in my house right now that I can't smell anything! My friend took it home last night and she called me this evening and said that it is burning nicely.
  8. I think that soy doesn't have a high enough melt point to use for electric candles, but someone else may have a better answer.
  9. I am soooooo jealous that you live that close to suppliers! I am in Az and aren't within driving distance. I have used several of NG FOs and really liked them. I just got about 20 more samples in to play with, but oh wouldn't I LOVE to be able to camp out on their floor and smell!! I have been using the Ecosoya 135 with pretty good results. Have quite a few scents that throw like crazy and some duds as well. I made 3 sets of testers using the CBA and had great CT, but no HT and I haven't made any since then. It could have been the FO, or wicks though..... Right now I am playing with pillars and having a blast with the rustics. I do need to make up some more containers though....... guess I should get my butt in the kitchen! lol
  10. Those flip flops are adorable! I love the little layered one. The candle is beautiful -one of these days I'll learn how to do those (and I wish I would have had one at my wedding, only about 10 years too late for that! lol) Have a safe trip!
  11. Thanks! That's what I figured, but wanted to double check myself! lol
  12. I have a heart pillar mold from peaks (3 3/4 x 3 11/16 x 3). I have tried the suggested flat braid 18 and 24, (using 1343 wax with stearic, fo, dye) I am getting a good melt pool with the 24, but it of course is just in the middle of the pillar. My question is should the rounded tops of the heart or the bottom point of the heart not melt? I haven't burned the whole candle, but it seems like it will tunnel somewhat. Just wanted to make sure that was normal, or see if I needed to wick up or double wick...... TIA! Jen
  13. LOL - post a pic when you are done!
  14. That's funny it is huge on my screen! Let's try this one
  15. I made this one last night (jack frost) and improvised the light box today (I am such a candle dork! ) This one is for my sister's baby shower, I made the a green apple jack & peel today. Apparently I am having size issues, sorry it is so big!
  16. Thanks Bailey and Scented! I made the Raspberry truffle last night and am going to try the LS and BRV today! I appreciate the advice!
  17. I think it looks very pretty! I don't think you should put it in the fridge though......
  18. Thanks for the feedback. I know that Peaks FOs are pretty strong and that paraffin sometimes throws better with a lower % than soy (I usually use soy containers). I thought I had read a post where someone said 1/2 oz was plenty, so thought I would check. I searched but couldn't find the post. I don't mind using the whole bottle, that's what I had planned on doing when I ordered. But I didn't want to use too much if it would be obnoxiously strong!
  19. Hey Everyone! I just got some of my FO samples in and am ready to play! I want to stretch them to 2 pillars if at all possible :rolleyes2 ..... So, in 1343 or 1274 wax how does peaks Love Spell, Raspberry Truffle, and Black Raspberry Vanilla do? Can I do 1/2 oz instead of a full oz per lb on any of these three FOs or should I just go with the whole bottle and do 1oz per 1b? TIA! Jen
  20. At least I'm not the only one! The real problem will be when I LOVE the samples that come in and decide I need big bottles!
  21. So I had to place a Peaks and NG order today and I added 28 FO samples between the two. There were too many that looked really yummy (and I searched threads for those that seemed to be favorites) Apparently I have absolutely no self control.
  22. I think we need you to teach a marble class..........
