I opened this thinking “no way… I know I’ve made the ugliest soap!”… But I bow to you. That is even uglier than my first attempt for the whacky whiffs swap (which was seeping lye water so went straight to the trash). That is the ugliest soap I’ve ever seen! Congrats on being able to laugh at yourself…

Your swirls make me think of valentines… I see hearts and flowers in it! Great job especially for the first time!

You may be disappointed, I’m mesmerized… the colors look like they belong together to me, and the way they flow around with those fantastic swirls… I find them enchanting… I keep looking at them… This is the first time I have wanted scratch and sniff… if the scent is as good as it looks (and I agree, the name fits) I would probably have to order the whole batch… hmmm… probably a good thing I don’t have scratch and sniff… I can’t afford it! Beautiful soap as always.

It looks like a sunset reflected on blue water to me, sunset at the beach… fabulous!

It really is hard finding that perfect point of dilution, isn’t it? LOL. 3 drops too much water and it goes water thin, 3 drops to little and you have a layer of gel on top. I have started using a suntea jar for dilution and sequestering. You know the jars with the spigot? I think it works pretty well. When it’s ready to be bottled the spigot allows me to siphon the soap out with out disturbing any precipitate on bottom, or cream on the top if I have any. I add boiling water, about 2/3rd what I calculate it will need based on the oils, let sit 2 days then slowly start adding more boiled water every two or three days. I set it near the furnace vent so the heat helps it move a bit faster but I have noticed that it will often get thinner a couple days after I think I have it perfect. Then when I have a tiny layer of gel on top, I stop diluting. Just let it set a couple days then skim it off and sequester. The left over gel I toss in a jar with water and use for dishes now. Hey, it works, LOL. I hope my experience can be of some help to you, then someday you can help me make LS as pretty as yours with out being to harsh.

Neither is as pretty as yours, but like I said, I’ll be happy with them, I got everything I wanted except the clarity. That I have decided I am willing to sacrifice for mildness. I guess I could get sulfonated castor but I don’t react well to sulfur… so no… I’m not going to do it, LOL. I am going to try some glycerin as you suggested in your thread with the next batch, see if that helps any. Thanks for the suggestion. The GM has been sequestered, that’s as pretty as it gets. I think it’s so dark is a combination of the goat’s milk and the herb tea and infused oils. The proteins and other non-saponifables from the GM will make it cloudy. And yes, the goat’s milk seems to impart the same properties to LS as it does to bar soap. I’ve tried your cream soap, this you can do as a breeze. BTW, I already told you I love the muscle gel, well the cream soap is great too. It’s very mild, soft to the skin. I’m not sure I like the clay, but don’t take it personally. I just don’t like the feel of the clay, it’s to “slick” for me. I prefer more of a satin or silky feel to the lather. Your cream soap is so smooth it’s almost like touching oiled plastic to me, if that makes sense. People who like a very slick lather are going to adore it. I lke how gentle it is, and it lathers so nice with no residue. Really nice.

GO FOT IT! LMAO. Really, no harder than CP, or HP... Just remeber that KOH is only 90% pure and adjust your recipe for it. I know you all will pick it up a lot faster than i have and will be able to give me some great pointers, so get busy and do it!

I like that purple! I was a little worried about the red... it's SO red... kinda looked like someone bled on the soap, LOL. I think that purple is lovely.

I think I’m finally figuring out liquid soap. I am relatively happy with these last two batches. In the first picture is Goats in the Garden LS, made exactly the same as the Goats in the Garden bar soap except well… liquid instead of bar, I used tea made from the herbs for my processing liquid and canned goats milk and infused my soft oils with more herbs. On the left is a batch made with predominantly soft oils, only 10% coconut, the other 90% consisting of safflower, sunflower, castor, and olive oils. I superfatted both at 3% (-7% on soapcalculator, as KOH is 90% pure). It has not been sequestered yet, so will be a little clearer in a week or two. The next two pictures are close-ups, I turned the bottles over to try to show the thickness, which is close to room temperature honey. Both lather well, and although both are still a bit drying neither are as harsh as my previous attempts. If you look closely at the close-ups you can see small bubbles that are ever so slowly working their way up, I have to admit I’m pleased with the consistency this time.

BEAUTIFUL! Mine is not so crystal clear and pretty, but I superfat at 3% simply because 0% is just too harsh on my hands. I have decided to be satisfied with that. As for bubble bath with CP, I have had success with making the soap with 90% KOH and 10% NaOH. Just calculate your recipe for it like you would for cream soap.

I can’t tell if you’re more proud of the new baby soap or the human ones! LOL. All are beautiful! Great swirls for your first try, very impressive! On Dos and metal, only high grade stainless steal is safe from my readings. Iron molecules can create the nucleolus for DOS and almost every other metal will react with lye at some level (though most not so violently as aluminum, still, any reaction is bad) so best to avoid IMHO. Really glad you have a locked cabinet for the lye. I would hate anything to happen to either of those two adorable little ones.

OMG! You’re married to my husband? We have been arguing since I started making MP soap… and it has gotten worse since I started making CP. I keep telling him “Honey, its soap, clean up is water!” He just grumbles I’m going to poison us. The other day I had a request for a sample of the 24 carrot gold soap, but was out so I cut a bar up in the kitchen. I left the knife on the cutting board. He came behind me and uses the obviously dirty knife to slice a chunk of salami. I pointed out to him that the knife has just been used to cut soap, total hysterics. What I don’t get is he will use a dirty knife that has food on it, sitting he doesn’t know how long, but not soap? I have pointed out that all of the oils I use to make soap with are the same grade I use to cook with, and the lye is the same as his beloved NY bagels are made with, but he still doesn’t get it. My soaping area is in the basement now (except when I sneak in a batch of oven HP, when he’s not home, don’t tell him!) and have everything for soaping separate from kitchen. I wouldn’t have a problem cooking with stainless steel, glass, or crockery after soaping. I wouldn’t use plastic or wooden utensils for cooking after soaping with them. But hubby makes sure they are all separate.

Even your “ugly” sweet oblivion rebatch looks like it has pretty swirls, LOL. I love the way the layers look on the chai, it looks like cream floating on the tea with little gentle waves. And the last rebatch looks like confetti. Beautiful.

The Wild Orchid & Vanilla is awesome! Those swirls! I want to make swirls like that! They are all awesome. You make such pretty soap. I need one of those Snakepeel Axes for Boomer. If I let him use it. it may have to set in the dish for company to look at… LOL. How do you get that droplet look to the Mediterranean Breeze? It’s like you did with the purple rain. I love the look!
