  1. I use Bamboo at 4% in soy and it throws well. I tried the Biscotti at 4% but I wasn't thrilled with the throw. Didn't want to experiment with a higher percentage for this FO because it'd add to the cost of the candle.
  2. Thanks, Kerry! I prefer the 6 mm neck, too, but the price difference is getting me to think twice. There is about a $12 difference when ordering 1,000 wicks from these two companies, plus shipping from Candlescience would come out cheaper.
  3. Right now I use HTP wicks with 20 mm. X 6 mm. wick tabs from BCN. The HTP wicks from Candlescience are cheaper but they have 15 mm X 3.8 mm tabs. Is there a big advantage using 20 mm over 15 mm?
  4. For some of my FO's, the 104 was too hot but the 105 works great.
  5. Cissy, Like you, I am picky about having my wicks centered on top and on the bottom of the jar. I use something like this that I made out of cardboard: http://www.ezwicksystem.com/default.asp?S=503&A=E&PKV=WICK-28|0 I made some myself because I don't use jelly jars. I made them using a Fiskars circular cutter and punched lots of holes around. After the candle is poured, I slide the circle down, pull a little (just enough to make the wick taut), and secure it with a clothespin. As long as the edge of the cardboard is flush with the top edge of the glass, the wick should be centered.
  6. Thanks so much for the helpful info. I am wary about switching suppliers because the company I currently use has great customer service. It's just that Makes Scents would have cheaper shipping.
  7. I am looking into switching wax suppliers and was wondering about Makes Scents Candles' customer service. Thanks!
  8. Hi Gerrie, Northstar (www.northstar3c.com) has packs of 24 ECO wicks coated with BW.
  9. I'm not sure if anyone has experienced this. For my Cinnamon Buns FO in soy wax, I tried 8%, 7%, and finally settled on 6.5% as having the best hot throw. I learned from someone that in some cases, less is more.
  10. Experimented with two different FO's at 8% but the FO was seeping. Didn't bother to test more though because I found the wax too oily to work with. Would you get a good hot throw with just 5%?
  11. Thanks, Top. So far with the one scent I'm testing, it looks like the wick coated with paraffin burns a little bit hotter, although I feel it's not that significant to make a difference in the long run.
  12. For "max age since last post" I add two zeros to the "7," making it 700. I do the same thing for "display how many results," making it 2500.
  13. I used to get HTP 104 that was BW-coated but I've switched to paraffin-coated ones. How extensively do I have to test this wick? Is testing it with one or two scents enough?
  14. Ergo has since revised its website. The photos of their workshop are no longer there.
  15. From the archives http://www.candletech.com/cgi-local/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=veggiewax;action=display;num=1110347019;start=12#12
  16. I currently use MC Soy and I'm very happy with it but was considering switching to KY because it will save me about $17 on shipping. MC's is Plain 415 so I emailed KY to ask if theirs is Plain 415 since I wouldn't want to test yet another wax. Vickey of KY replied saying it is KY PureSoy.
  17. I guess I should stick to the wicks I've decided on and stop worrying. My brother tells me that it probably won't matter to the customer as long as the scent throws well.
  18. From the start, I didn't color my candles because I didn't want to add another variable to my long list of variables. And add to that the fact that soy wax is tricky. So far, no one has asked for color.
  19. Now I'm worried again. LOL. Maybe I should start testing paraffin. :smiley2:
