  1. Okay, I made these again tonight and they worked out beautifully again, came out of the mold no problemo!! 3 cups of powdered milk 2 1/2 cups of fine sea salt 1/2 cup baking soda 3 tablespoons of grapeseed oil 1 tablespoon of melted coconut oil colorant if you choose to 1 tablespoon of EO or FO of your choice (no EO or FO that you wouldn't want your private parts in ) withchazel or water. Mix your milk, sea salt baking soda, add color now and MIX, MIX, MIX (I use surgical gloves to mix with my hands), add scent and MIX, MIX, MIX. Add oils and MIX, MIX, MIX Get your spray bottle ready with water or witchhazel and spray till you have the consistency of wet sand. Don't worry, no citric in this so ... important to get this consistency or they will crumble. If they do, no problem, put back in bowl with the rest of mix and mist and continue. Let sit for 24 hours. The molds I use I got from the dollar store and they are metal (Kitchen section) and sort of large thimble like. I will have to take a pic of them but I am sure you can find these anywhere. I was wondering tonight if you could add ingredients to also make this bubble? Not sure this is feasible but hey, experiment and have FUN!!!!
  2. GrandmaArial, BRAVO!!!! I like you have probably made about 30 batches and my testers are some of my family, some of my co-workers and then others as well. I am lucky because of where I work (Health Canada- Product Safety (Cosmetics, etc). I am further lucky because my boss has her degree in Chemistry and we have spent alot of hours chatting and she is my sounding board, THANK YOU RACHELLE!!! So I TOTALLY agree with EVERYTHING YOU SAID. YOU GO GIRL! (from one grandma to another )
  3. They ALL look amazing but my eye keeps looking at the one that reminds me of a strawberry sundae!!!! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMY!
  4. Basically they are a combination of milk bath and salts. Need the salts to get them to hold. I used dried milk, sea salt, baking soda, a bit of cornstarch and a smidge of grapeseed oil. Going to re-create the recipe this time with amounts and write it down and share. I did color one of the batches but it was difficult, it basically gave me a very very pale peachy color.
  5. Okay, now that the lonnnnggggg weekend is here I am going to attempt to replicate (amounts used) for these. As I said I just did them "flying from the seat of my pants" (didn't write down the amounts I used . Angi, if you want me to send you some of those little containers I used just send me a p.m. Like I said they came from my $1 store and I only bought a pack which contains 4 of them, I thought it contained 3. Anyway, you don't need more than that as you unmold before you use them all up and let them sit for 24 hours.
  6. Link for anyone (outside the U.S.) who will be selling to someone in the U.S. A must read... These are things that people dont' think about. They just think they can put up a website and sell "internationally". It's important to check the laws of the countries where you sell your soap or B&B products. http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/imports.html
  7. Is it hot in here or is it just me . I must be having one of my "menopausal nuclear meltdowns".
  8. I agree with some, disagree with others, always the diplomat I am, lol. First, for those of you who state I have started in such and such a year and started selling in such and such a year. To me the amount of years is not what quallifies you but the amount of "hours" that you have spent on either soapmaking and/or candlemaking. You can have someone who has spent a year making soaps and or candles, once a week or you could have someone who has spent 6 months making candles or soaps on a daily basis. I probably spent 6 months alone just reading, taking notes, etc. before I even ventured at attempting a first batch of soap, or any other B&B product. Having read so much and the fact that I work for Health Canada (Canadian Goverment) in "Product Safety" (Cosmetics, Food products, tobacco, etc, etc) I am VERY conscience of the "safety" aspect in any product, whether it be candles or soaps, etc. As a matter of fact a report just came across my desk last week about certain F&D colorants that have a high probability of being carcinogens, specific colors (related #s) and I quickly went to the supplier I am using to see if they carried those specifc numbered colors and glad they don't and that I haven't used them. Our rules are very strict in Canada, our Regulations are tough. I will be happy to share, when I get back to work on Tuesday (long weekend) part of the report and the colorants that are to be avoided.
  9. I am like you and keep telling people I am not ready yet... they aren't listening, ROFL. I have an order for 168 bars or lavender soap and milk bath smoothies . At least I have time for those it's for my son's friend's wedding in 2008. I have Christmas orders, yep, Christmas!!! It's only July ! I have quite a few orders from co-workers and I have some international orders. Now, I have no idea how I am going to get all of this done since I have a full time day job, I have my other hobby, my 10 horses.... This should be very interesting next few months to say the least. Maybe I should open a spa, an oasis, where I can check myself into to
  10. They are the medium size muffin papers. The molds I used I got for our $ store here, 3 for 1$ and they work beautifully because they are just the right size to embed the roses on top and in the middle of the soothies. They just look like a large thimble or a small flower pot shape better describes them. They were in the "kitchen" area and made of metal so everything slides out perfect without fighting them. My son is getting married next year and I thought since Holly has chosen burgundy and cream as her colors that I am going to make these as "favors" and I am going to combine them with a small container candle (soy) in burgundy color and scented the same as the soothies. These could be made in regular bath bomb molds but since I didn't have any I had to improvise. I think they would look nice also in the heart shaped molds especially around valentines day!
  11. :yay: brought some to work with me and they held up very very well. No breakage. I have one of my co-workers who will test them for me. I tried last night as I said and absolutely LOVED these. The only difference is I wouldn't put as much grapeseed oil as I did, mind you I used two of these, lol, at the same time. Oh I can see these done with lavender, they would be AWESOME! I have going to re-create the recipe and get amounts for everyone.
  12. I didn't feel like making soap today but I wanted to do something and my order for citric acid has not come in yet... so I thought, what can I make. So I decided to make these and have called them milkbath smoothies and I love these!!!! Same principle as milkbath but I put some sea salt in them, powdered milk, baking soda, cornstarch, grapeseed oil, coloring (very pale pink) and FO and embedded rose buds. Now i have to go back and write down amounts, lol, I was just flying by the seat of my pants making these today. I think they would be absolutely AWESOME done in lavender with lavender buds and I am sure you could do them in a eucalyptus/spearming and add some dry spearming leaves (crushed) and....
  13. I absolutely LOVE the scent of spearmint!!!! Your soaps are AMAZING looking!!!
  14. :yay: Congratulations on becoming a grandma, it's the best thing in the world!!!! :yay: Love your soaps too
  15. Houston, we have a problem!!! . Yes, you are a tad far from me. I am in Ontario (Canada) about 35 minutes from the NY border.
  16. No, not candle wax, mare wax :yay: Looks like my mare is getting serious about SHOWING ME DA BABY!!!! and none too soon I wanted to share a pic with what I am going to give to my co-workers, my testers....
  17. Since there is STILL no foal yet and I was too tired to soap last night I decided to create the following, my label
  18. very nice, and I love the color!!! It feels so good when you make your first ones and they turn out great! Congrats and HAVE FUN!!! they are addictive to make.
  19. :p This is now my permanent face. I expect the nice young men with a white jacket for me to come real soon if she doesn't have this foal. I went to work today with having 2 hours of sleep and it looks like an all-nighter tonight. I am so glad I do not have any mares bred for next year, at least I can REST next summer.
  20. This mare better foal soon I tell you, lol. Here are the last 3 batches I made since the weekend. The good news is I don't think I will be making any tonight as I think we are FINALLY truly close to seeing this foal. I think tonight will be it. First one is "Very Berry Explosion" second one is Spearmint ( I LOVE the smell of this one!!!) and the 3rd is the one I made last night "Romantic Interlude" (dried rose buds on top, like I have time for any kind of romance while on mare stare :rolleyes2
  21. Boy, you should have seen the look on my face when I just logged in and came here to post a question - same one you posted, lol. Made a batch of soap last night and this is the first time that I have "swearting" soap. Humidity level is way down today so hopefully this will correct itself by tomorrow.
  22. How wonderful is that!!! My grandaughter who is only 5 wants to help me when I make soap but unfortunately she can't with the CP. I will have to get some M&P and let her have fun. I bet you your grandaughters are on cloud nine not only for making some very creative and nice soaps but because they made it with Grandma!!! I am sure this is something they will always cherish!!!!
  23. How much scent (FO or EO) do you use for 2lbs or 4lbs or 8lbs of soap? I am finding that my soaps are not holding their scent as much as I would like. Do any of you use orris root powder to anchor your scents?
  24. Your soap looks amazing and looks so "calming". I would love to try this scent in a CP soap. My son is getting married next year in Newfoundland, his fiance is from there and they have decided on an "ocean" theme wedding. I have been mulling over in my mind "ocean" theme gift to give.
