  1. Specialty bottle has the best prices and the largest selection of colors and sizes that I have found. Here is their link. http://www.specialtybottle.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=31
  2. But what if you end up liking the old one and they stop carrying it? I find that if I pour at a super low temp (115 -120) I get beautiful tops, and no caves. I also realized that letting my containers cool on my tile counter wasn't the best idea. I started putting a rubber mat down to let them cool on (about 1" thick). They cool slower, which I believe helps with wetspots and shrinking. My thing is that I can't get this wax to put out any scent. I used over 10 percent this time. Although I may not be the best judge of this right now. I'll have to get some other opinions before I can say that for sure.
  3. Henry, did you say you have tested with the new advanced, or only the old version? Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I just called CS and they said the new version is due today for them. I asked what the difference was. He said the manufacturer has refined their formula to not contain any botainicals, and it is only 100% soy now, but still with the no frosting quality. I guess we will still be able to get both versions, which is good because I was thinking I was doing a bunch of testing on something that won't be available later. So do you see any differences between the old and new?
  4. great! as if this all this testing wasn't hard enough. We have to worry about manufacturers changes what they give us:(
  5. What is the difference between the old and the new? It has only been a couple of months since I bought this batch, if it was a good product why do they change it? How do you know which company has old or new?
  6. Can you tell us who the company was, I don't want that to happen. So your saying each time you get a batch of soy run a test on it? I hate to sound stupid but how much is a skid of wax? (pounds?)
  7. It really is some nice wax. Last night I loaded a candle up with losts creme brulee scent and butterscotch color to see if it would frost. It still didn't frost at all! It is very shiney on the top. I also poured at 115 degrees. I don't have one wet spot. I think I will switch to this one now. The only thing to check now is scent throw. This is hard because I can't smell anything after making so many candles last night. Terrie where is BCS? I get mine at Candlescience, but I am always looking for a better price.
  8. I know if you use soy wax to make pillars, there is always something mixed with it to make it more sturdy to become a pillar and come out of the molds. Even most container blends are not "pure soy", they have botanicals and other stuff. So as long as you are not claiming it is 100% pure soy wax, I don't see anything unethical about calling it a soy wax candle. When I describe my candles to people I tell them they are an all vegetable wax blend.
  9. I hate to sound too stupid, but what are these programs for? I know they deal with shipping but other than that I don't know about them.
  10. The wax I used before was ecosoy pb.I heard how pretty and shiney and great KY wax was, so I wanted to test it. (Like I need more testing )My ecosoy can be a little dull looking sometimes. I'm going to try pouring it at a higher temp. Last night I made some pillars with ky and with ecosoy. I put silcone spray lightly in the molds of both. And I made some 1"square votives. The squares would not release, I put them in the freezer for about 15 minutes. They came out easily but had cracked. The ecosoy pillar slid right out no problems and no blems. The 4" KY came out (no freezer) but it had a chunk missing on the top. This time I made sure my molds were very clean and lubricated before I started. I'm sad I wanted this to work but I guess I need to go back to ecosoy. Speaking of cleaning molds, I read somewhere in a candle tip board that molds are not to be cleaned with soap and water. They are supposed to be cleaned by heating them them and paper toweling them out. I know this would be true for paraffin wax, but it this true with soy? If so what is the difference?
  11. I recently bought some from candlewic - both palm 2 and 3 - and I am having the same issue. I thought I was doing something different. I have to use the aircompressor to get them out too. My old batch from them did not have this problem. I made some tarts that will not release. I even put them in the freezer, nothing. So bottom line, is vibar a natural additive? I am with ascentscandle, I am trying to keep my line all vegetable.
  12. I didn't know that we didn't have to add lye to our ingredients list. I have seen handmade soaps in the health food stores before that don't list lye, I wondered why, and thought that was misleading. Are you sure we don't have to list it?
  13. Hey I was wondering if people that use this wax could troubleshoot some issues I am having with this wax. It seems to be very hard to get out of the molds. And so far each time I have made a pillar it has pieces of wax missing- stuck to the inside of the mold - when it does release. It has been super hot here lately, and we don't have air conditioning, so it could be this. I tried putting one in the fridge, but it still had a chunk left in the mold. I am doing all the recommendations from the wax company. I also found my normal wicking was way too big for this wax. I was happy with my old wax, why did I start testing this:confused:
  14. Funny how that person is trying to make their soap sound super healthy when at least two the of ingredients are suspected to cause cancer. (propylene glycol and sodium laureth sulfate) Many professional brands of shampoo have release shampoos that do not contain these ingredients lately. I don't know about the rest of this person's ingredients, but those two would be enough to not buy their product for me. Check this place out to see how bad some of their ingredients are - http://www.zellersnaturalhealth.com/danger.html
  15. I have used two different molds of this kind with palm feathering wax. One candle came out fine but the other one had trouble and the top of the candle broke while trying to get it out. The shapes of the ones I made were strange - rhombus, and pyramid- so the wicks I chose didn't work well. I will try them again maybe with soy this time. Candlewic has pictures of palm wax candles from these molds on their website.
  16. If you sell several different items - b&b and candles - do you bring an inventory of everything. Or do you just bring the things you want to highlight for that event?
  17. I am curious of what type of stock, on average, people bring to these affairs. I know some of it depends on the amount of people expected to be there, but I could use some advice of how much to bring.
  18. That totally looks like the real thing!! Great job!
  19. I want to get a wooden tray type of soap mold. Does anyone know where I can buy one? I use the loaf type now but I want to try using the tray.
  20. Clean Cotton (I haven't found any clean laundry type scent that will throw in my soy) Northern Star Sweet Pea Meridith, Have you tried Northstar's Fresh Linen? This is some really powerful smelling stuff. It's one of those that you can smell through the bottle before you open it. I don't use nearly as much with this one as I do with other scents. Plus it's one of those that many people like.
  21. fresh coconut milk -5tsp flaxseed meal - 2 tsp kaolin clay - 2tsp honey - 1/2 dry whole milk 2tsp smidge flaxseed oil mix the honey with the coconut milk. mix all the dry ingredients, then mix all the ingredients together. the flaxseed oil is added at the end of mixing the other ingredients. It will be a sticky consistency but should be spreadable. this should be good for normal to dry and aging skin. apply to clean skin, leave on for 10 min. I put it on my hands at the same time I had it on my face. Use a washcloth to help remove the mask. Apply moisturizer after rinsing. Your skin should be shiney and fresh. I tried this and it was really nice. If anyone tries this can you let me know what you think?
  22. I've used Northstar quite a bit. I like most of their fragrances. One of my favorites is Fresh cut tulips. It is in their ultrafragrance line. It really isn't "ultra" but it is such a pretty smell. I think their fragrances are even soy based. They are the only ones I have known to make this claim.
  23. There are so many natural colorants out there to experiment with and not only are they safer but look much better. They will give you a quality look in your soap. You can use nutmeg, paprika, many of the clays - rose clay and french pink are very nice. You can use Hershey's cocoa too. And you can go with the micas they work well also.
