  1. How long will a paraffin candle keep? I've not done alot of work with paraffin and I was wondering...once poured...how long could a paraffin candle be stored? Does the scent change in any way if stored for long periods of time? And one last question, does storing a paraffin container candle for long periods of time change the way it burns? Kim
  2. Hi Sharon, I use c-3 and I have some tarts that have been sitting on my counter since before Christmas. They have started to dry out and I have some tarts that I've had for 6 months or more and they have also done the same thing. I also haven't been able to "fix" this issue. Kim
  3. Searching the waxes that are available will do wonders for your information base as the types of waxes available are quite numerous. Kim
  4. Top, that wax was left over from when I did candles 5 or 6 years ago. I happened to find in storage. I don't remember where I even bought it. If I can't figure out what it is... should I get rid of it or can it be used for anything? Kim
  5. I have some paraffin, but the tag on the slab is so faded that I'm not absolutely sure what it says. I THINK is says "wax 1440". Has anyone heard of that? I can't seem to find anything when I do a search here. Kim
  6. I'm laughing like the Count from Seseame Street! *lightening and the works* 1... 1 jar wicked properly... 1 jar wicked properly with a good ct and ht! 1.... JAR....!!!!! Kim ps... and now for the rest of the scents and jars!
  7. I keep testers to very, very close friends and family. I have alot of people that want to "test" for me, but they're looking for a free candle. They're not interested in writing anything down or documenting what I need to know as far as how the candle burns...and as far as I'm concerned, that just becomes a waste of my time and money. Kim
  8. Instead of stalling her just tell her that because of insurance reasons, the candles have to be extensively tested by you and you alone until ALL kinks are worked out... when there comes a point where you think the candles are ready for "outside" testing, you'll let her know. Whether or not you ever let her know is obviously up to you. Kim
  9. I wanted my company to reflect the area I grew up in and so I named my company after a mountain on Mt. Desert Island... it's called Cadillac Mountain Candle Company. Kim
  10. Always, always, always check your hands for dye before going out in public... just incase you've gotten dye in other places. I spilt some blue dye, thought I missed getting any on me in the clean up and I can assure you, I thought wrong. I went out to talk to the contractors that were doing the new addition and while he's a lovely man.... he could have said SOMETHING! I had blue dye from the tip of my nose all the way into my hair.... in a great big wide swath. Kim
  11. Dont' lean your hair over an open candle flame to pick something up off the floor. The bangs are looking only slightly better. Kim
  12. The lady came in... bought all the candles she ordered and then bought more of the ones I'd done up hoping she'd buy them. I'm so excited... she's shipping them out of state! I always knew I was meant to be a princess! I'm going to be a household name... rich and famous... beyond belief!!!! <---waving to all my fans! I can hardly contain myself... can you all tell??? Kim
  13. Hi Dawn, I just measured one of my jars that was sitting here because I don't have my notes in front of me. My jar is from corner to corner 4" wide and the mouth is exactly 2". I've done 4 or 5 different tests with this jar to single wick it. I can't remember what I started with, but all the wicks never got rid of the hang up... even when I burned to the point where the wick snuffed out at the bottom. My last try was with a rrd 55 and as long as I kept the wick short, burned for a minimum of 3 to 4 hours, I had a great melt pool and the flame wasn't outragously large. Kim
  14. I reuse my containers to test fo's, wicks and wax... but I never refill a container from a customer and I never sell a used one either. Kim
  15. Dawn, I might be able to help with that. I use an rrd 55 and by the second burn or so, I get a really good melt pool. Kim
  16. Roootdeetooot!!! You go girl! I can't wait to read how it burns and smells! Kim
  17. LOL Kathy.... I AM a hair stylist!!! That's the funny part about this... my clients wont see my misshap until Thursday! Seriously though... the only thing hurt was my pride, my ego and my stunning good looks. Kim
  18. It wasn't for much, only $100 worth of candles... but I was just tickled that it was my first order. The woman walked in and based what I told her and the fact the candles she wanted were sold out, she placed an order for more of the ones that were gone and then asked me to make some of the ones that I had told her were just to die for. Kim
  19. I try not to think very long and hard on the "thoughtless" things I do.... I think if I pondered too long, I'd be more scared than amazed! Kim
  20. Learned a VERY valuable lesson OCCASIONALLY... I have issues with fire. Meaning every so often, I accidently burn something. My husband swears the smoke dectector is my done signal when it comes to cooking.:rolleyes2 Well.... I have officially learned to not #1. turn the microwave on for long periods of time when trying to loosen wax on the sides of containers, #2. some fo's are more volitile than others and #3. if you're going to leave a paper towel in the container to absorb wax as it melts, don't walk off! MOTHEROFGAWD!!!!! Needless to say, I had smoke! But!!! It doesn't stop there... I don't claim to be the fastest learner!:rolleyes2 I not only did it once, but I did it twice! LOL! Priceless... I wish I could have seen my face when I opened the microwave! Kimberly See.... I have had issues with fire on other occasions also! I knew there was a thread somewhere fessing up to some of the other stuff I'd done. Kim
  21. The first thing I would do is cry! Sharon... you just have no idea how BAD that smelled! Bobby (husband) looked at me after I trimmed my bangs and asked if I learned a good lesson! No sympathy going on there! The sad thing is much like when I was heating my glass pour pot in the microwave to get the excess off the edges and kept almost setting things on fire then.... it's going to probably take another lesson or 2 to really sink in. Never professed to being the fastest learner of the bunch! Kim
  22. Those are just stunning colors... absolutely love the look of them. Kim
  23. Actually, it was just a lapse. I would normally never fess up to doing something so stupid, but since we're all friends here... I'm hoping you'll see the funny side of this like I do....now. I was burning a group of test candles... I was leaning over them (they're on a low endtable) to check them out and see how they were burning. I happened to see something on the floor that I wanted to pick up and momentarily forgot there were candles burning! I leaned down to pick this item off the floor and accidently stuck my bangs inside one of the jars that was on the edge of the table.*faint* Needless to say... I have had to "trim" my bangs and now I have baby bangs! My husband is just beside himself everytime he looks at me and all I can say is thank God I still have eyebrows! :laugh2: *thinking to myself everytime I look in the mirror* It's just hair, it's just hair! Kim
