  1. Puma...you are very right! I was lucky to have Brenin...every day in his company was a blessing. The rabbits are so unique. Until almost 4 years ago, I had never touch a rabbit before in my life. My husband, who's a recovering alcoholic and prescription drug addict, had just come out of rehab after loosing his job and a suicide attempt. This man knew nothing really about living life, his self worth had always been based on his work. I took him to a rabbit rescue in our area with the intent of us helping with the rabbits...cleaning, feeding, watering and so on in hopes helping my hubby find some self worth by doing something different. I have a picture of him holding one of the rescue rabbits in his arms and the look on his face was just incredible. That's when we got into fostering some of the rabbits instead. Best decision ever made. In the end, we adopted 2 of our fosters and have never looked back. We went to our first rabbit show and we were hooked. We found a breed that we fell in love with and almost 4 years later we have what you see on our fb page.
  2. So after looking over the notes I made on all 7 of the candles I tested with this wax back in 2008, I have come to the conclusion I was clueless. I was all over the place and almost started making the same mistakes again this time around. I had to have a "come to Jesus" meeting with myself. So here's what I've done instead of just jumping in willynilly...I poured 3 candles tonight...I know, don't want to overwhelm myself( insert sarcasm in that last part). 3 candles poured, no color, no scent...3 different wicks in each one...rrd40, cd16 and 52-something-18z. Tomorrow night I'm going to light all 3 at the same time and see which wick, if any, work. The advice from everyone has finally started sinking in a bit.
  3. Welcome back, Rich...seems like a lot of us oldies are coming back.
  4. Thanks OldGlory...Brenin was a special boy as I'm sure yours was too. I was blessed from the moment Brenin entered my life until the day the day he left. Makes the his loss all the more painful right now.
  5. Puma...the avatar I'm using is my sweet boy Brenin. I lost Brenin just a little over a month ago after having him for over 13 years. He was a retired therapy dog of 7 years...the last 3 years of his therapy service was spent helping children read through a program called R.E.A.D. So in addition to visiting our local hospital and elderly housing, he worked with K through 2nd grade every week until I retired him last summer because of failing eye sight. Brenin was the love of my life. As far as the rabbits go...you can see them on Facebook at Cadillac Mountain Rabbitry. We have a show coming up in November and I'm hoping for a better turn out with our rabbits since we haven't done well all summer. It was so hot that they all started blowing their coats and because Silver Fox are considered a dual purpose breed...fur and meat...lots of points are placed on them having a great coat.
  6. I have 4 50 lb boxes of the 1288B. While I'm finishing it up, I'll start looking at other waxes to try and test. I've got c3, but I haven't been very successful with it. I'm finding it to be as difficult now as it was 7 years ago. I'll just keep plugging away.
  7. I just realized I posted this in the wrong area. If an admin is able to move or delete this post I would really appreciate it!
  8. This is the 2nd time I've taken up candle making after a very long hiatus between. I kept meaning to get back into this and could never find the "right" time. The last time I made a sellable candle was in 2008 and I was dabbling in paraffin along with C-3. I live on the Downeast Coast of Maine, I own a hair salon and in my down time I show Silver Fox rabbits in addition to running a micro farm. So I'm excited to be working on this venture AGAIN and I just wanted to pop on and say HI to everyone. Kimberly
  9. I have been sitting going and going and going through old candle records trying to find ANYTHING that might have to do with this wax...I found records on 7 test candles, so now I have a place to start. If nothing else, I can use up the 4 boxes I have of the IGI 1288B while I work on testing some new waxes to take it's place. *sigh*
  10. I found posts from when I first tried this wax and how excited I was about it, but I never posted exactly what and how I was doing things.
  11. I stopped making candles back in 2008 because of problems I couldn't work out with soy...apparently towards the end of my candle making "career", I purchased a huge amount of IGI 1288B. It's been so long, I'm not really sure why I didn't continue with that wax. So needless to say between soy problems, full time job, hubby with health issues and just general life happening...candles seemed to fade out of my life. Now I'm trying to get back into it again... I have missed making candles over the last 7 years. So back to the soy I went and I had the same problems I had the first time... just can't seem to get it together with soy. So I decided that I would use up all the paraffin wax I have but now I have I no notes AND no directions to follow as far as melt point, pour temp or even the amount of FO to use with this wax. If someone has information or can help me dig up information on IGI 1288B, I would be incredibly grateful. Kimberly
  12. Who sells and where can I find a good quality liquid dye?
  13. For me it depends on what I'm trying to do. If I'm doing any testing for fall or winter fo's, I'll start testing in August. Spring and summer fo testing starts in January. Any candles that are retailable and don't need any changes are made anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks ahead depending on how popular they are. Kimberly
  14. I've never smelt the dupe from Yankee, but I love Stormwatch. I have Seaside too. My customers love both of them and they do smell very different from each other. HTH Kimberly
  15. Reminds me of some of the candles I've had do that. It was soot in the wax for me. The flames would bend over instead of burning completely upright and there would be soot and soot rings in the wax when the candle rehardened. Whenever I did all white candles, the wax would be anywhere between a light gray to a dark gray depending on how it burned and what # burn I was on. hth. Kimberly
  16. Umm, just a thought... but I think I would restrain myself from putting anything in the tealights that could catch on fire:D... such as the rose petals that you mentioned. Kimberly
  17. I'm surprised that stuff like that doesn't work. I'd go for a candle of the month club! It always amazes me what people will and wont go for. Kim
  18. I just grabbed my notes for the heck of it. I have blackberry sage from KY. I know you don't use lx's, but I had to wick up to an lx 22 in a 10 oz. metro jar to even come close to getting a fmp. I had great throw both times, but couldn't even come close to a fmp with the lx 20 even when I burned the entire jar. Went to an lx 22... great throw still and fmp about 1/2 way down jar. hth. Kim
  19. I use lx's exclusively in my 10 oz. metro jars and I don't get the flat wavy flame. I have a test jar burning now and the flame is an even steady teardrop shape. I don't have a problem with hot throw with lx's in these jars. The only time I've ever had a problem with a flat and wavy flame is in my 16 oz apothecary jars. I've used lx, rrd, cd, cdn, eco and htp and every one of them burns the same way when they get half way down... flat and wavy. Hot throw is super, but the burn is less than desirable. Kimberly
  20. Actually Noodle... it doesn't matter. If a person is still willing to deal with shoddy customer service from a business after there have been clear complaints... then it's buyer beware. You offically know what you are potentially getting into by buying from suppliers that are less than honest. Furthermore... if the supplier is that bad, why would anyone WANT to deal with her? Just because she's closing doesn't mean anyone has to buy her remaining inventory. Anyone that buys from a business that's closing after people have made CLEAR complaints against that business ... is looking for only one thing and that's to get a deal on merchandise that's been marked down. As I said before, I've had no problems with this company... obviously though, some people have. Any they may have well had warrented complaints...I would never say otherwise. The bottomline is you don't buy from a company if you don't like their business ethic. And IF you do knowing there is a problem then don't p*ss and moan when the transaction is less then stellar.
  21. Wow... you have an obvious disconnect between what you read, what you understand and what you type. I appreciate knowing about crappy suppliers from people that have had experience with them. You however, aren't offering anything useful at this point. You're complaining about a supplier when it doesn't matter anymore... she's going out of business. She's sparing the whole world of even dealing with her inadequate customer service... and that's just not enough for you. [removed]
