  1. I get no where near the HT with the 44-24-18z wick that I just got with throwing the 51z in there. I kind of don't want to use zincs because of the non trimming wick, I am afraid a buyer would not trim the wick and have a 4" flame. But...
  2. So for giggles, I put a 51-32-18z in one of my votives. Holy cow. the HT is amazing, but the mushroom is getting big and I imagine this wick is way too big for votives. So I do I get this amazing HT with a smaller wick? are the cotton core, 3 numbered wicks, similar to the zincs burn. I am trying to find a supplier of those wicks and I cant locate any.
  3. ok, so you keep a different scent in each of your presto pots I am gathering... I right now use a plastic measuring cup to mix my scents in. Unless I use the microwave to remelt my repour wax, (my wife doesn't like lilac hot tea though) I don't see any other way to do it the way I am doing it currently. I also think I may need a different scale. I was pouring some candles tonight and pouring vanilla, I know I put in a lot of FO, but the scale kept saying zero...
  4. Old crab-- what cotton wick do you use. I tried the one peaks has and I get a big mushroom or no melt pool. The 44-24-18 has burned decent if burned properly, however if someone power burns it, it is out of control. I have been experimenting mixing 4794 with 415 (80/20) to see what that does. It seems better but, idk. I usually let them cure for 2 or 3 days, but I have burned some that cured for 2 weeks with no difference. How do you remelt the wax for repour? I get a pot of water, get it boiling then I use measuring cups and I hand that on the side. I am wondering if the steam is getting into the wax and messing it up. The steam is just rolling over it so I don't know if that would affect anything?
  5. oh please dont tell me that..., I can't even think about testing another wick.
  6. I am using 1oz per pound. Thats the max right or could I go a little higher?
  7. I got a sample of 6006. tested some cd's, they did ok, tried a 60-zinc. that did ok, I am trying the 62-zinc and WOW !! the Hot throw is amazing. Using peaks lavender, and CS pumpkin souffle. Very small mushroom after about 5 hours (8oz mason). Hmm could this be the right combo I am looking for. I will try straight 415 with the 62-zinc next week to see how it does.
  8. Does that price include printing them or do you print your own with a template?
  9. I got a sample of red velvet cake from candle science. Poured a few votives with 4794 with 1oz/lb. I am testing a cd5 and a 44-24-18z. Both burn very good, but no HT with either of those wicks.
  10. All that use 4794 wax, what supplier do you get your FO from that gives you the best HT. (talking votives here) I have been using CS & Peaks. I think I may need to look at others..
  11. Ok, going to try some clamshells. What fo% do you use? Do you use the max % of what the wax can hold?
  12. Thats the thing, if you are selling these melts, you don't know what your customers are using. They could be using 15w or the others with 25w. Your 15w may keep the scent longer.
  13. ok, I am confused now.. I am just starting to venture into the melt department.. What do you guys mean when you say combo warmers? So QTsmum, which one have you found to work best? I bought this one from walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Better-Homes-and-Gardens-Botanical-Glow-Full-Size-Warmer/22984435 Is this a good one or bad one? I have tried some 4794 wax and so far a couple of my scents have fizzed out after only a few hours.
  14. NEW..red velvet cake... :tiptoe: umm, what if I drink the FO, this is my favorite cake type..
  15. So using 4794 for votive. Using 44-24-18z. In the first burn, the wick get a substantial mushroom. however, after trimming the wick before second burn, the wick burns perfectly without mushrooming at all. Any reason behind this? Another confusing thing is the scent is a little stronger when the mushroom is there than it is after the wick is trimmed?
  16. Yes they cured for almost 2 weeks because I had to wait for wicks. Should I try a bigger wick even if the candle is burning correctly? Nice melt pool, not really any mushrooming etc...? I was thinking that maybe I am burning the scent off the top because I use a heat gun to smooth out the tops. But I temped it and the wax is only around 150 when using the heat gun. So idk..
  17. I am burning cinnamon sticks. I can smell like the wax being burned but I don't smell the cinnamon stick. Idk, maybe I just personally can't smell a cinnamon fragrance.
  18. Gb 415, 8oz mason jars. I poured all the scents I have using 8% fo load. I am using cd 12 / cd 14. I am getting very little HT. I have tried cs's very vanilla, cinnamon sticks, cinnamon buns, peppermint bark, The only ones I can get a great HT with is Rose, and lilac. Should I try to mix a paraffin wax in? That is alot of candles I need to do over. My votives (4794) seem to have some what of a better HT than these jars.
  19. I think you will find that it is a personal preference. You need to test a variety to determine what works the best.
  20. So what if I can smell a candle burning, but can't smell the scent. Is this weird or is my nose broke? Does this make sense?
  21. Has anyone mixed gb 415 and 4794 together? I combined 2 votives of 4794 (4oz) and 2 oz of 415 and poured into my 8oz mason jar and wow !! it is the creamiest nicest looking candle that I have ever produced.
  22. When you guys mix your own parasoy, do you use more soy than parafin because it is cheaper to buy?
  23. the flame wasn't all that big actually. but the glass was extremely hot. Hotter than it was with the wick that was labeled cd 6. The cd 4 seems to be getting a melt pool, but the HT is very little and it is mushrooming a bit. I personally like the cd wicks. My other choice has been lx 14's but I think I get a better HT with the cd's. I guess I am just going to have to get some more cd5 and cd6 maybe from another supplier and start over.
  24. 8oz mason, gb415, cd14. The last 1 1/2" or so the wick is kind of flopping over and drowning out I guess I would say. These are my test candles so I don't have the wick stuck to the bottom of the jar. Could this be why this is happening? or another reason?
