  1. Try this page http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/cos-218.html It will describe what the fda considers a 'drug' and the difference between drugs and cosmetics
  2. Depends on what you're looking for. I've been designing websites since 1993 and a graphic designer for ten years before that - I'll try and break everything down to it's simplest form. You'll need the following a host: basically, someone to give you server space to store your web files. a shopping cart (look for free carts like zen cart or mal's cart): This will 'compile' your orders and allow people to pay and check out a merchant account for your business: this is the 'banking' part of your business - it will allow you to accept credit cards in your company's name. Many merchant account services will provide you with a free shopping cart. A payment 'gateway' - a secure way to transfer the credit card payments directly to your bank account (like authorize.net) Now - there are some hosting services that will include a shopping cart with your monthly service. Since there are some very good free shopping carts out there, I don't see the 'packaged' shopping cart as a very valuable extra for a hosting service. There are hosting services that will offer you free templates. There are PLENTY of free templates out on the internet, many condusive to ecommerce. There are sites that will charge extra and 'design' your site for you - I can do that and I'm better (snicker) As far as a merchant account, VERY easy set up with moderate monthly fees can be found at charge.com. It will combine your merchant account with a payment gateway (I think they use authorize.net) and will set the whole thing up for you (no set up fee). They also offer a free shopping cart. You can then use a host like godaddy for only $3.49 a month. They'll register your site for an additional $10. Like I said, web hosting depends on what you're looking for, however, the sites that irk me are the sites that overcharge newbies for things that they'd be getting for free anyway if they knew what was out there. Just my 2 cents!
  3. If you tell us the proportions of your ingredients and the temps you're working at, we'll be better able to give some advice
  4. If she's using food coloring, the soap will change to the vibrant colorant color, however after the lye reacts to it, it will change a drab brown/khaki. One of my early experiment failures....:embarasse
  5. There was a thread on body or linen spray on here not long ago. The easiest method was 6 parts cyclo, to one part fo/eo. For a pillow spray, something soothing like lavender would work.
  6. RBO 12 months + Grapeseed - 3-6 months PKO - 9-12 Palm 9-12 Cocoa butter 9-12 + Safflower 3-6 months Castor 9-12 months+ (+ store all in a cool spot for longest shelf life)
  7. something like this? http://www.producepackaging.com/inserts.html#5lb I'm sure you don't need 500 tho!
  8. Golden Barrel in PA has it for $39.40 for a 5 gallon bucket
  9. Rita (Kelseis) is always REAL good at getting back to folks promptly. I'm sure she didn't get your email or it ended up in a spam folder or something. I'd try and contact here again. You can order the mold right off the site. I have 2 of her original wooden divider molds (with the acrylic ring and dividers) that I bought probably 7 years ago. They still work great. I also have one of the newer 'mini' molds. I think these are even more heavy duty than the wooden ones. Works great!
  10. You don't absolutely need cocoa butter, although a small amount is nice, imo. How about Soy 30% Olive 25% Coconut 20% Palm 15% Castor 10%

  12. Well it's smooth and creamy for me - somewhat light. I don't know if I'd recommend a facial lotion though for acne/blackheads. You might want to try an oil cleansing method to help in that regard.
  13. Try cinnamon leaf - it's a little less sensitizing than something like cassia. Patchouli, Cinnamon Leaf and Lime is nice...then again, anything with Lime is nice. I luuuurv Lime :yay:
  14. If you're making soap as well, until lye grows on a bush, I don't think you can use 'all natural' either. At least not truthfully. The best you can use (if you do veggie oil soaps and eos) is 'vegan'.
  15. I think that in itself would be really difficult to sub out. Maybe try experimenting with a mixture of shea or mango butter and cyclomethicone? That would be kind of a gooey, but creamy and silky mixture I'd think.
  16. Meadowfoam is a little lighter I think, but Avocado is very nice also. I've subbed in Grape Seed Oil already for it and it came out nicely. Try the avocado and let us know!
  17. It doesn't look like there's an emulsifier in this recipe...or maybe I'm not reading it correctly. That is a lot of stearic and usually, at least in recipes I've tried, there's more ewax than stearic. Your's has no ewax at all. Try Water 60% Aloe Vera Gel 19% Glycerin 2% FCO 5% Meadowfoam Oil 7.50% Emulsifying Wax NF 3% Sweet Almond Oil 2.50% Stearic Acid 1% Preservative Essential Oil
  18. River Run Cascade Waters Blue Heron Tall Cedars
  19. I like your bands exactly how they are. Everyone and their brother has thick cigar bands wrapped vertically. Your's are unique and stand out from the crowd. They look great with your soap colors, too!
  20. Try using a lighter oil like FCO and adding cyclomethicone
  21. You can't just use a clear round label for the lid??
  22. I've been a designer for the past 20-so years and have been using photoshop since it's inception. Nothing beats it! However, the average person isn't going to fork up the big bucks, nor needs to. For a freebie, don't forget Google's Picasa - nice little free program! Also for the do-it-yourselfer's, for wysiwig (what you see is what you get) web development nvu.com has free web design software that's very, very good. I mainly use dreamweaver or golive, but Nvu (pronounced 'en-view') can really keep up with the big boys! Whenever I design sites for clients where they wish to update it themselves, I always recommend nvu.
