  1. Hi Lorrie, I'm doing a cardigan, in a premature babies size. It's something smaller to learn with tbh. Knitted a large chunky cardi for daughter, and ended up with 2 fronts one bigger than the other and both longer than the back I've figured that cast off is the stitch I know, k1, k another and take 2nd over first and drop off. I can't remember the decrease stitch, is it sl1 k1 psso? lord, its so confusing I'm writing notes now in my book I can cast on, knit, purl but still have trouble knitting and purling on same row, I can't get the wool in the right place and end up with more stitches
  2. Ok, so I'm still learning and now I'm confused over 2 'stitches' I'm doing the same thing for both and it can't be right. It's cast off and decrease A pattern is calling for cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. (I'll try to describe lol) I'm knitting a stitch, knitting another then pulling the first over the top of the 2nd and slipping it off (hence losing a stitch), but isn't that how you decrease too? another part of the pattern is calling for dec. 1 st at each end of every row.
  3. Success wouldn't be success, without the disappointment and hardships, anyway.
  4. just for the record, in case that quote was pointed at me, when I said I do this for a living, I mean I'm now classed as self employed and sell my candles. NOT I make a living at this. It only supplements my husbands income. It allows for little extras we couldn't otherwise afford.
  5. Started making candles in Feb, website went live in August. Did 1 craft fair at christmas, turns out not to be a craft fair and it was pants. Sold quite a bit through people I know off my website, and in the new year I want to try and get a wholesale account and get my products into some health spas/shops on a percentage per sale basis. I love making candles, I love doing this for a living. I have 4 kids so I'm a SAHM, so am making and testing into the small hours The best thing, my house smells lovely lol
  6. me, me! After realising that I left christmas a little late, I'm thinking of valentines day. Got 2 grubby heart molds already and a large metal double heart mold, will be making some canes with that with rose petals embedded, just need to source a large cheap amount of silk rose petals. Only fo I'm definately having at the mo is fresh cut roses
  7. thanks for the link, we have to pay in the UK, no free download for us
  8. is this really easy to use? I write everything down and save everything, only been in business since August, but I haven't kept it in any kind of order and need to sort it. One question for those that have it, I took the demo and it mentioned dollars, is there a facility to change that to GBP (pounds sterling) thanks
  9. I make my pictures square, so for instance 5" square and I pour to about 2cms above it. I use 56oz of wax and that comes out right. My mold is 4 1/2" x 6 1/2", hth
  10. ok, dumb question here what do you use crumbles for?
  11. and anything in hindsight you would have done differently? Personally, myself, next year Christmas will be starting a lot sooner? and I'll book a few craft fairs rather than one (that was pants!) I wish this year, I'd managed to push more and get my products into some retail outlets. I officially opened my website beginning of August and sold quite a bit straight away, then it trailed off, its picked up last couple of weeks. On the plus side, the christmas pillars I didn't sell, made very nice christmas gifts for my kids teachers yesterday So...resolutions for next year. I want to redesign my site (ha, of course thats if santa brings me a technical brain cell for christmas), I want to thin my products and fragrance range, get into some retail outlets and basically get a lot more exposure than I have. Hows everyone elses year been, would you have done anything different/better? and on that note, a very merry christmas and happy new year to you all xx
  12. I'll look for silk ones then, thanks. Sharyl, they came out brilliant thanks, the 'mum's were overwhelmed. They appeared on TV, not sure if its still on their website though. It's the BBC site and its East Midlands Today.
  13. If I wanted to embed rose petals, in a hurricane shell, do I have to dry them first? or can I just pull them off a rose? I'm looking for the cheapest way of getting them thanks
  14. hope you get yours sorted, mines back online
  15. The same thing has happened to me today my host'er man is emailing the server people now. Hope mine isn't all gone, although I was going to build a new one after christmas. I was on TV just over a week ago and my picture/photo hurricanes were featured on tv again last night at a memorial service. Apparently some of the mums have expressed an interest in ordering some, just hope my site is back up soon, in case they want too. Good luck with yours xx
  16. nothing gonna concentrate on selling on the christmas candles I have left. Just waiting for someone to pick up 5 memorial photo candles for a church service today, then I'm clearing down all the worktop. Might go through my stock and have a tidy though
  17. ooh thats excellent advice, thanks Doris xx
  18. I'm going wrong somewhere with this purling. I'm getting one extra stitch on each row. I think its the first stitch I do, I'm fine after the first one, (although the last stitch seems to be more than one joined together!) I've looked at a site calling knittinghelp that has videos on, but I just can't catch her first stitch. Anyone know of any other knitting videos of purling where I can clearly see the first and possibly last stitch? If not, think I'll just keep knitting till I see my mum on monday. I wanted to make up the scarf with several rows of knit and several of purl. I'm dying to try the pattern and make the hat, but I need to get this purling down first thanks xx
  19. anjie, i add mine to my hurricane wax, 1/2oz to 1lb ratio hth xx
  20. thanks Doris, well when I tried to knit the scarf in the feather wool, i ended up with that many extra stitches my mum reckoned it was a sleeve lol.
  21. thanks Sharyl, am I right in thinking you make up (soak) your pictures before you even start making a cane, so have some ready?
  22. I PURLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLED I only went and did it, yee hahhhhhhh lol. I watched a video and it took me ages lol, just couldn't spot what she was doing. Got it now though, although I'm struggling at the end. I've done all that scarf in 25 stitches wide, done 3 rows of purl and suddenly got 28 stitches
  23. aah, thanks. I'm only holding the piccie in the wax for about 5 seconds before positioning. Then about 30seconds of smoothing (within the mold) then ice. Plus I'm not heating because I coat the inside of the mold with a cooking oil so thought the heat would zap it off. If you put the piccie in some wax beforehand, doesn't the wax set up on that first?
