  1. Couple of containers, 2 bakewell tarts (don't laugh ), hot choc or capucinno (haven't decided yet) and a chunk candle. I really like the chunk one, must have a go at some more of those. Got a few others that are work in progress, but need more wax and skint at the mo now lol.
  2. blimey, they are just gorgeous I love the colours, esp. the tall one
  3. Hiya, thanks for that. Can I ask what white mineral oil is? Is it called something different in the UK? I've ordered some flashpoint FO (ooh get me, FO hehe) which along with other stuff should be here early next week. If I can't test it I may have to wait till then. Got the colours and the wicks already.
  4. I've bought some gel wax to try a candle. Well really a glaze. I've been making 'normal' wax candles for a whole 2 days now lol. I'm just an addict, I hold my hand up. Been reading a few of the threads on here, and they seem so technical. I looked at the newbies bit and it mentions different densities. Well all it says on mine is: Salix Associates Ltd, Gel Wax. Only use with saix gel wax colourant and specialist gel wicks and to melt at approx 70C (I haven't got a thermometer yet ) Is this all correct? I've got a pack of rainbow colours for it, but they (hobbycraft) didn't have any fragrances for gel. I've only got the ones for normal wax. (btw, the other wax just says wax on it, not what type) Also, I was intending making a normal wax pie crust, with embeds, then using the gel as a glaze to drizzle over the top. Is it ok for both different waxes to come into contact with each other? There essay over, sorry its so long, but I really want to learn. Everything just seems so technical
  5. as pastry and cake colour? I managed to get a brown today from my red blue and yellow, however, I couldn't get it milky enough for my hot choc, or light enough for pastry and cake colour. I want to make pastry, cakes and muffins. Do you have to buy that particular colour? Can you buy that colour lol. I tried lightening with more white wax and yellow, but it got to a yorkshire pud colouring, more like medium coloured toffee
  6. Thanks Ian, will take a look at their site. I've got the gel colouring, but never thought about the fragrance
  7. sorry to but in, but ooh what a great idea satinducky runs off to nick the kids beakers lol
  8. Hi, I'm currently using wax bought from Hobbycraft, its the only place I can get any from. Someone mentioned earlier that they didn't think it was suitable for container candles. I've so far done, a 3wick candle in earthenware pot, one in a vase type ornament, started 2 strawberry sundaes in glass bowl/dishes and started 3 tarts and 3 cupcakes. (I'm addicted lol) It's all really just for practice. However, I've noticed things like soy wax, gel wax etc. Can anyone tell me which wax should be used for what? I'm in the UK btw. I need to source getting wax cheaper. 1kg at £3.99 I bought this morning has gone, so has the 1kg I bought yesterday lol. I'll have to buy a bit more from HC in the meantime, but thought it best I order some online. I've bought some of the gel wax today and the colour red, was going to use this as a kind of glaze on a strawberry tart. Is it ok to have gel wax over the top of normal wax? so many questions, sorry xx
  9. well I got the brown I put in equal amounts of all 3 colours. I tried the hot choc base, but it looks a bit too dark for me. I wanted to then get a pastry colour from what was left, so added some yellow, wasn't right, so chucked in a load more white wax. It came out ok-ish for my first attempt but not perfect. I'm going to finish them anyway as its all practice. Solved my pouring problem, got a jug this morning. In fact, I also bought 1kg of wax this morning and its virtually gone!
  10. thats what I mean about not knowing anything lol. It doesn't even say what kind of wax it is on the bag! Its just white pellets. I fancy trying some gel wax too, as I'd like to make a type of glaze to pour over the tarts and pies, apparently thats the best from what I've seen
  11. At the moment (being on a budget), I'm melting by having a large pan of simmering water, with a smaller pan perched on the top with the wax in. The one with the wax in, is a milk pan with pouring lip, but its still spilling all over as I'm pouring. What do others use? I know in the USA you can get presto pots? but not sure of what is available cheapish in the UK, or anything homemade? My god, I'm sat here all excited about making candles. I'm like a kid..... Is this how it gets you lmao
  12. oooh unfortunately I don't 'do' paypal so can't buy from the states, mores the pity Yep, I've just ordered loads of sensory perfection lol. Looking at some more of hers tonight. I'll try that for the brown. The wax I'm getting from hobbycraft is £3.99 for 1kg, but its just gone I've finished off this mornings blue one, done a pink vanilla one for my mum in a pot and done the bottom pink layer of 2 strawberry sundaes. Can I ask, you know this part, i.e. general candlemaking disc. can I ask a few questions do you think? or do ppl get fed up of answering newbie daft questions lol. Just found out I need to tweek a few things I've been doing, especially pouring wax all over my kitchen worktop!
  13. thanks for your help. I actually didn't really 'pick them'. I just bought what they had at my local hobbycraft. I was quite disappointed really. I went in with this big long list and came away with 4 colours, 3 fragrances and some wax I'm trawling the net now for moulds in the UK. I've got some mugs to make the hot chocolate with marshmallows, some glass sundae dishes for the sundaes. I can't wait...... need to go and top up the one I made earlier (as per the wonderful intructions on this site ) Must get back to reality first and get the kids to bed!
  14. Hi thanks for the reply ooh I like the sound of the cup of coffee with creamer look. I'm trying to make brown at the moment for hot chocolate and also a pastry/cake colour, maybe that would be the way to go
  15. Hi, this is my 2nd post, so I'm new, and a total newbie at candle making. I have managed to get a few fragrances, Cinnamon, vanilla and summer fruits. Do these make any other fragrances if combined? I also have so far, blue, red, yellow and pink colouring. I'm trying to make brown for chocolate!? (I should have paid attention more at school lol) Are there any other combinations of colour I can make with these? I've just made my first candle, which is setting as I type. Just got a blue earthenware lidded pot and did a blue 3 wick candle, scented with Summer Fruits. Can't wait to try Bakery Candles next. Thanks xx
