  1. I usually wait until the candles are completely cool but I have also lidded them when they are still warm with no problems. Just don't do it when they are still liquid!
  2. We're on our 3rd tent. First one was a caravan that was lost in a storm we had with 70mph winds. It was thrown against a brick wall and snapped basically in half. The 2nd was an EZ-up, it was a design they had for awhile with support beams in the corners that folded out and snapped into place. In the area where those support beams attached, the metal on the tent broke in half. They must have had problems with that design because as far as I know they don't sell it anymore. Our 3rd is also an EZ up, and it's been holding up for a little over a year now, hopefully it will stay that way for a bit longer (fingers crossed)
  3. I've been using "Bug Off" from OT. It has Lemon Eucalyptus oil, Lemongrass, Catnip and Peppermint. It smells waaaaaayyyy better than citronella. Lemon Eucalyptus is also approved by the CDC as a mosquito repellent, so you could just use that and it should still smell better than citronella. Mix it with a little lemongrass as someone else on here suggested, and your all set.
  4. I completely agree with CS Lime Cooler, I use palm wax and it's has an awesome hot throw with no fuel smell. It's wonderful!
  5. I agree that Peaks patchouli smells really close to the real thing. It may work better in your application than mine, I use palm wax and it is too weak for my taste. I'm looking for a stronger one right now. My favorite Sandalwood so far is from Bert, it's really strong and all of my customers love it.
  6. I've really got to get around to ordering some samples from them, so many people rave about JS on here.
  7. Oooh, I'm still excited! Silly things make me happy
  8. I also have to call to order and I have never had anything but good experiences with Diane. In fact I hope she answers the phone because she is great at calculating the shipping and how much more you can add to your order without paying more shipping. I have however experienced what you were talking about when I placed an order with them and forgot to add an oil and had to place a separate order and pay extra shipping. It was Diane who dealt with the situation and although she was very frank about it, she was still very polite. At first I was upset about it, but after it was explained it to me, and I had time to think about it, this is how I understand why that is their policy. They have a very fast turnaround time, and their policy is to ship orders placed before 3pm est that same day. In other words, they strive to pack orders as soon as they come in, if they allow changes on orders, turnaround time would be significantly slowed down. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to change one order after it has been placed, but of course if they do it for one person they have to do it for everyone etc etc... You have to remember as well, that this isn't Diane's policy, she is just there to enforce it. I'm in no way saying this was handled right, just explaining this policy as it was explained to me. Needless to say I'm now careful to make sure I have absolutely everything I need from them written down before i call so i don't have this problem.
  9. I've had customers tell me that Peak's Genuine Leather smells like new car smell.
  10. Has anyone ever come across a rain FO that actually has that "after it rains" smell? All I've ever found is the typical Floral Rain Smell. Don't get me wrong, customers love the floral version, but I personally would like to find one that actually smells like rain. Growing up in the pacific NW I should know what rain smells like and it's not floral! Maybe I've lived in the desert too long now and I've forgotten . Thanks!
  11. When someone asks me for "spice" I go with Amish Harvest first, than I have them try something like Homemade Apple Pie. Depending on their response from those I can usually determine whether they are looking for sweet spice like cinnamon buns, apple pie etc.. or the not sweet spice scents like Amish harvest, cinnamon stick, clove etc...
  12. I have also started testing GW415 with essential oils and have tried 2 so far. Sweet Orange was a no go with a horrid fuel smell which I pretty much expected. Lavender 40/42 smells wonderful! Excellent hot and cold throw. I'm going to be testing fir needle next and will let you know how it goes! I have been making and selling palm wax candles using fragrance oils as our main candle line for a little more than 2 years now and people love them. I have just been having so many requests for essential oil candles that, like you I finally decided to give it a shot.
  13. I read somewhere on the boards that The Salty Mariner was supposed to be really good but didn't get a chance to try it before AGE went under. I'll definitely have to try The Salty Sailor since I need to order more Vanilla Bean Noel from Daystar.
  14. I have been using peaks ocean for 2 years now, and although I like it and it has sold moderately well, I've been having alot of comments lately that it is too soapy... so i'm on the hunt for a 2nd ocean type scent. What are everyone's favorites? :rolleyes2
  15. I have settled on Peak's Gardenia, everyone tells me it smells just like Gardenia's, and judging from the gardenia blossoms I have smelled growing in the plant nurseries around here I would say it's pretty darn close. I use palm wax and both the cold throw and hot throw are excellent!
  16. Isn't it more of an amber bottle vs. white or clear that people worry about? I keep all of the bottles inside a cupboard in the house (a cool dark place) anyways so I don't worry about it. I have some that are more than 2 years old that still smell great and some that I've had to toss regardless of bottle type. Besides that I've had the pleasure of dropping and breaking one of the glass bottles from CS... luckily there was only about .5 oz left in the 16oz bottle. It still smelled like rain water in the house for weeks though...
  17. I tried the summer orange flower in palm wax and it was outrageously strong, so much so that I had to blow it out because it was giving me a headache. I'm currently hunting for an accurate orange blossom scent and this wasn't it. I'm in AZ and have had so many requests for an orange blossom because of the orange trees here. I smell the real thing all the time since we have orange trees in our backyard and this doesn't smell like a true orange blossom, it has more musk to it. It's a nice smell but I would definitely cut back a bit if I try it again in palm wax!
  18. Peaks has a scent called Ginger Passion that I haven't poured yet but OOB smells just like plain ginger. I don't know about white lilac but the closest I have gotten to a true lilac fragrance is Bert's lilac. Almost every single customer that has smelled it says it smells exactly like it and I've had many many comments that they've never smelled a lilac candle that smelled so close to the real thing. Good luck!
  19. I've been trying to decide between these 2 LOGOS for a week and a half now! You guys are really helping alot though, alot of things have been brought up that I hadn't thought of. Thank you all!
  20. I completely agree about the font on #1, I don't like it at all. Actually, my mom had the same problem, she didn't realize it was a candle either.
  21. We are having our LOGO redesigned and I am having a horrible time trying to decide between 2 LOGO design concepts. They are a completely different style from one another but I like them both. We have to choose 1 to go forward with and I can modify it from there. I could even combine elements of both of these designs if I wanted to. Please let me know which one you like, and if you have any suggestions for changes that would be wonderful! Here is a link to the first one... http://thelogocompany.net/downloads/concepts/CandeoCandleFD15aR00aP02AL.jpg And here is a link to the 2nd one... http://thelogocompany.net/downloads/concepts/CandeoCandleFD36bR00aP02AL.jpg Remember, colors, fonts, etc can all be modified. Thank you
  22. I have a request from my mom for a narcissus aka "paper whites" scent for candles. I have only tried Lonestar so far and it didn't smell quite right to her, i don't think this fragrance is that common so any suggestions would be appreciated!
  23. I noticed that at the walmart here too, they have the anchor hocking "emma" jar. I'm probably going to need at least 50 cases of them though so that probably won't work... I've searched all over the net and it seems like candlescience has the best price for this type of jar. I just don't want to spend so much on them that they are no longer cost effective to make...
  24. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other suppliers for this jar... http://candlescience.com/containers/18oz-footed-square-jar/ I'm in arizona and am hoping someone carries it or something similar that is a little closer to home?
